  1. I investigated fishkills for DEC for many years.  It doesn't seem that an updwelling would be possible this time of year.  The deep water temp should be 39 degrees,  At this temp water is the most dense.  Surface temps are very close to 39.  Fish die when they  experience a large change in water temp as in summer.  Resulting in a drastic change in their metabolism.  Also all fish species in that effected area are killed, not just one.  One species usually indicates a natural mortality like a disease.

I second this opinion not the right time of year for upwelling.

  2. And that's the problem with these small mom and pop businesses . There is little to no record keeping . Taxidermy mounts, whether finished or not, should have the customers name attached to the game . I'm sorry that this man's business went south , he obviously made quality tackle . The fact that his website is open and he continues to take orders is very concerning and should be brought to the attention of the NY state AG's office . I lost a mooring cover several years ago ,when the woman that owned the sewing shop suddenly closed shop and dissapeared . Caveat Emptor !!

  3. I have used pro troll flashers for years . Do they make a difference ? Very hard to tell . I've caught fish using them and not using them . The piezo electric ceramic ball that is inside the metal tube emits a small electric discharge when it strikes the end of the tube . They don't wear out , but if you drop them they may take on water . If they  rattle when you shake them , they are working .

  4. You don't want to calibrate your gps and sonar surface speed to read the same. Your speed over ground and speed over water will be. And should be different. If your sog is , say 2.5 mph and you have a current that is going with you at 2.5 mph. Your lures are hanging lifeless Conversely. If you have a head on current. Your lure is spinning at 5 mph Sog and sow will almost always be different

  5. Your GPS is reading speed over ground (SOG) ,which will be different than your speed over water ,due to wind and waves and currents . The fact that your boat is affected by wave and wind action explains the readings being all over the place . Your temp sensor should be in the bottom of the transducer . They are usually accurate for surface temps . If your temp readings jump around ,I would suspect a faulty transducer .I bought a Hook 7X last year , and after getting the bugs out ,it works fine . I like the chirp feature .

I agree with you 100%. But shooting an unarmed person in the back 8 times in broad daylight when they are running away is unlawful. Especially when you have tools like a k-9, taser, shotgun beanbags, backup. These don't require a milli second decision. They require training. And sometimes not even training is the answer. The only perfect force in the world is God. There will be bad choices made, fortunately they are the 1% and the complete trashing of our entire law enforcement by these liberals is unjustifiable.

Ya know, the dems have ruled over our cities for at least 50 years and things have only gotten worse since. You would think city citizens would abandon the dems by now.

Definition of insanity : Doing same thing over and over again expecting different results.

My dad served in kaison 69 3rd marines. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

  7. As a combat vet , I can tell you that you literally have Mille seconds to react to a threat. Someone points a pellet gun at you or even a cell phone in the dark. It's him or you. We called it collateral damage. If everyone would obey a lawful order from the police , there would be far fewer "incidents". Innocent people don't run away.

    This is what worries me.

The rioting and looting and general lawlessness in this country have got to come to an end . Period . It's time we took back our cities from the gangs that terrorize and intimidate  . All these movements  , black lives matter , etc. have to take a back seat to the rule of law . If you point a gun at someone ,you deserve what you get ,I don't care if you're black , white or green .  The cops are under terrible pressure to better relationships with minorities . We are mandated to protect ourselves , our property and our loved ones from all threats . If you invade my home you will go out in a body bag .

Its only just begun. He's a bigot a racist if you don't see this you have'nt looked at his history. He has so many law suits coming after

That's right , It's only just begun . Take the big step backward ,downsize our out of control governments ,build the wall , deport all the illegals , and tear down the welfare state . People are making careers on welfare and passing it on to their children . Go president Trump ! Make America the great country it was .

  10. Exactly !!!  Stopping these turbines on Lake Ontario is for our children and grandchildren . In twenty years when the life span of these things is reached , we will have an environmental disaster on our hands . Each turbine contains 800 gallons of lubricating oil . What will happen when one or more leak into the lake ? The article clearly states that they really don't know if the foundations can block ice . We all know how high the wind and waves can get on Lake O . Can these things be guaranteed to survive a strong storm ? No one knows . I am not willing to bet the future of our lake  on assumptions .Put them where accidents don't cause as much collateral damage as they would on our lakes .

  11. This brings back fond memories . We had a bunch of guys from my rod and gun club that used to fish the Yankee Fleet out of Gloucester back in the 90's . We loved the two day trip out to Georges' Bank for cod . I think it was 1990 , we brought home 110 pounds of cod fillets apiece . The captain of the Yankee Freedom ,told us way back then to write our congressmen about the foreign factory ships on the banks . There were several HUGE ships , they carry a dozen or so trawlers on their decks ,which the winch over the side to fish . He told us ( and was very correct ) that the cod fishing would be gone in ten years . Fished out by foreign fishing .I was in the Crow's nest in 1991 ,sometime in August , The crew from the Andrea Gale may have been there that night ..I, too , hope the fishing on Georges' bank can recover . But it won't happen in my lifetime .

  12. Hey Troutman,

I'd like to run these in Alaska next summer.  Will you make me 4 of those 12lb weights?  Will need them shipped to Juneau, AK.  I don't mind to pay some extra if shipping it there costs you more.  Also, do you have a means to plasti dip the weights?  Salmon are sensitive to electric charge, we try not to run any bare metal.

Drop me a line back when you can.  Mike J

I painted my 16 # 'ers with the tool coating from Walmart . Comes in a pull top can yellow or black I believe . Two coats and a whole season with no bare metal showing  . Stuff was like 5 bucks and one can was more than enough for 2 weights  You could easily do four on one can .

  13. The 1998 cormorant shoot on Little Galloo island brought attention to the cormorant problem on  Lake O . I remember it well . Unfortunately ,the men involved paid hefty fines and some did time in fed prison . The egg oiling is a viable control method and needs to be continued . The feds have to change the laws protecting these birds . They fall under the migratory bird treaties and are protected by fed law . Back in the 80's , They were seen in flocks of hundreds . After the egg oiling program started the flocks seemed to be much smaller . This past season ,all over Mexico bay and north ,the flocks have grown again to large size . I am writing the DEC and my senators and congressmen to bring attention to this problem before it gets to the point of no return . Just for the record . The body count on little Galoo in 1998 was over 850 cormorants . Good shooting guys !

  14. Where were you fishing this year Chinook35? Black river bay for the fall king run or out in the shipping lanes?..............Pete

i fished Mexico bay from the nukes to the north dunes off Sandy pond in late July had reasonable fishing ( not hot and heavy) and there were lots of LT in the mix ( thankfully the LT bite all but disappeared in Aug.) I moved up to Stoney and Henderson in Aug. never got as far as Sackets. Fished the finger and lanes near the wall then the trench the lack of skippys may be a concern. Time will tell. I don't like catching them because of survivability issues considering the number of trips this year ( fewer) I am happy with my catch ratio and very pleased with the way the salmon program seems to be going. I read all the posts from all you knowledgeable folks on meetings and stocking quotas. It is way above my pay grade and I am glad you are on board
