Thanks Hank. Finally figured out that they sent me the the right cylinder but neglected to put on a eesentail part of it. Couldn't turn to port. Finally emailed Sea Star a pic of the cylinder and they recognized the problem immediately. Sent me a new one in 2 days. No complaints with those people. What an ordeal!!!! Just got done installing a new AP on my stern drive I/O. Switched the steering from cable assisted power steering to all hydraulic. I have heard that now I should take the belt off the pump to the power assist unit or with the new all hydraulic I will have a lot of free spin in the steering wheel. Anybody have any experience with this. Also as a side note I did all the work myself and would never entertain doing it again. After a myriad of issues including having the wrong parts spec'd for my boat, I should have just gone for the helm pilot. Would have saved myself alot of aggravation. A cheap way to utilize planer board fishing is to buy Pink Lady Inline planer boards. We have used them on Lake Ontario for years and they work fine. For $10 each it's cheap and we've had them in 2-3 footers and they still perform fine. They get your lines away from the boat and we've run 2 off each side of the boat easily. When I had my 16' Lund and fished by myself it was the only way to go! PM me if you want to ask any questions. Dion

Would like to thank everybody for their input. Going to do some more research on the Simrad unit and the RayMarine ST6002. Will give feedback when I make a decision.

Am looking at the Ray Marine Smart Pilot x-5 Sport Pilot for my 1995 23' Penn Yan Avenger. I have literally no experience with auto pilots and am looking for any feedback on this unit or any other unit that would work on a boat like mine. Mostly trolling on the FingrLakes in the spring then up to Lake Ontario in Aug. The boats weight is approx. 4000#. Thanks. Dion

Did you drop the jig right to the bottom and then reel up? Have had success with dropping the jig right to the bottom, waiting until I was directly over it and reeling the jig straight up. Definitely not like jigging for walleyes but have had good success with this technique in the past. Good luck.

Phil That is a very nice set up. Don't dismiss some of the smaller FingerLakes with that rig. In the fall the lakers are in the shallows and very accessible. In addition, in the spring landlocks and rainbows can be found in that same shallow water. Just have to pik the right days when the winds cooperate. People in the Adirondack ponds have rigs very similar to yours and a very productive. Good luck.

I have learned to assume that people do not make allowances for running copper and also there are times that you simply can't run it due to the volume of boats on the water. I have a 19'er and typically fish away from the pack but in my 20+ years fishing the vast majority of issues have been with just a few persistant offenders(unfortunately charters) . I now just stay away from them. Makes it a better day on the water. Hey, Ray, thanks for letting me ****, now may daily quota if filled!!!

Ray, Couldn't agree with you more. Fished all over the lake and the Finger Lakes and have found fishing out of Oswego The worst. Last year we had a charter on a 30"er cut us off within 20yards and the same guy take out our 400' copper rig when he cut in behind us. Have learned to stay away from the crowds when we fish Oswego... it's brutal!!!!

Out on the water at 6:00, setting out first rod, 400' of copper when as I was clipping it to the planer boat line it gets ripped out of my hand!!!!! 15 minutes later we boat 20# salmon. Hammer fly behind white echip in 125'. Boat 2 more teenager in the next couple hours all down 70' over various depths out to 270'. 50 degrees down 65 to 70'. Then moved to 200' and the wire dipsy lit up. From 9-10:00 boated 4 beauties out 210' with silver flasher and the hammer. Fish 12, 21, 23# and a skipper. Was a great way to finish the day. My buddy and I have never had a day on the water like this before!!!! Off the water by 10:00. Nice to chat with Billy V while we were out there!!!

Do you know if they have any refurbed units for sale? Or can you buy a new unit directly from them? I'd make the drive if they do. Thanks for any info.

We went east first......zilch. Then headed west and finally found them. We were on the water at 6:30. iFirst fish 8:30. Talked to guys at the dock would had done well earlier in the week but Sat was just a slow morning. Heard guys on the radio up north near Brennan's beach that were having a slow go of it. Their there but with that northwest wind I think it just plays havoc with them. Just great to be fishin' !!!

Went 5 for 6 all on stickbaits in 15-20'. All browns with the largest about 6 lbs. Took awhile to find them but finally did at 8:30. Off the water by 11:30. Saw other boats picking a way at a few also. Spoke to some guys at the launch that got skunked but it was finally nice to get out on the water and get the stink off.
