  1. Well, truthfully I was sorry not to take part in the Big Battle,Iice fishing wasn't in the cards for this month. The weather network had forecasting really great weather for the next while. Laker John and decided Friday that we should get the gear and hit the soft water from Bath. I had been in contact with people from outside of Quinte who were coming down to have a go also, so we hit the water at 0830. Motored to the Generating station and set the innner boards with spoons looking browns and the outer pair with cranks. The water was calm and bright, but we could see snow squalls to the west..... The snow met us and came down pretty good, it was light and fluffy, but we had a bunch. We trolled past Sandhurst when the shoreside board fired (The lure had been changed to a Flicker Shad) and I was hard into a fish. I wasn't able to move it or gain much line, when the board suddenly shot forward - "Bite the lure off!!!!!" 100% sure it was Mr Pike. As we continued along we thought we saw a huge piece of pan ice and circled around it, funny as we went by there was no ice there, must be something on the water..... Just after the turn, the outer inside reel began to sing, three times the line tripped off and then - NOTHING - the fish didn't get the hook. Shortly there after, we turned and trolled back. The winds were starting to kick a little and we knew that the Gap would be blowing off the big lake, so at 1245, we headed back to the ramp and sure enough the rollers at the Gap were sizeable. Hit the ramp and found besides our trailer, there were three others who had gone out, we had seen one boat around 0915 heading to the fishing grounds. Boat out, gear stowed and we were heading back to Hay Bay at 1400. That will be our last soft water until after the 15th of March, when we hope to launch for Brownies......... I hope those others who were out have some results of their efforts and will share them with us. The Battle of the Bay sounds like a real blast as mentioned by others - a true friendship gathering and raising some $$ for a good cause. Stay Tuned David aka Superdad
  2. What GREAT numbers - pays to fish in February.....Thanks for sharing your info
  3. Thanks for sharing your fishing and that news will get the trolling blood flowing, just have to wait for the right winds.
  4. Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There it was soft water and an open ramp....... Laker John and I hit the really open water on Wednesday, the 1st of February for two reasons. 1. Never fished from a boat in February 2. Wouldn't have to ice fish in February to maintain our fishing in every month of the year. Got the boat in the water after by-passing a truck and boat trailer left in the middle of the ramp - some people are not considerate of anyone else. Had the rods out by 0900 and saw a couple of other boats doing what we were doing - fighting the wind and the waves. Trolling in John's tinny was getting tricky and we made a pass down wind and one up wind, then thought there might be a lee on the south side and headed over there to discover it was same. Trolled down to Keith Shoal, pulled the lines and headed back to the north side, The waves were gettting larger and we were bouncing pretty good, so we decided that discretion was the better part of valour and headed for the ramp. Took the boat out at 1230. Our results were a skunk, but we saw the net a couple times on one of the other boats. So that's our fishing in Quinte for February, the state of the ice makes me concerned and have decided to pass on the rest of the ice season and get our hooks sharpened for the browns in March. 5. Iceguy Way to go - great job - Ice!! Ice!!! you dont need no stinkin ice! David aka Superdad
  6. It is the latest we have ever fished the soft water................................ We were planning on fishing in the Keith Shoal area, but there was too much ice out in the main fishing area, so we headed for Finkles and trolled the north shore of the North CHannel. We started at 0930 and I took this picture to indicate that we had in fact fished at this late date. Trolled past Lafarge and just before Hogans' Apiary, the inner board with the Fire-tiger Flicker Shad went off and it was a GOOD pull on hte rod. Gradually the fish came closer and the tell-tale flash of the white belly - Mr Pike.... But a nice fish around 12 lbs. We trolled down wind about 1/2 mile past generating station and the waves were crazy. the east wind and the rollers thru the Upper Gap made fishing difficult. Headed back without the drift sock and the winds really picked up, so we couldn't go fast even if we wanted to - so we trolled back towards Lafarge. As we neared the boat building factory on Rte 133, the outer board fired and I had to bring the fish in as Laker John was tied up steering the boat. The fish broke the surface and it was another pike, this time it hit the CC Shad (Blue/silver/orange). We reeled in at the Lafarge dock and motored to Finkles. The winds were pounding and the waves overflowed into the backc of the boat as we were getting it on the trailer, must have had 30 gallons.... Makes the boat real heavy........ As were were getting the gear out of the boat, a car stopped and a chap with a Walleye Derby 2011 hat got out. He wondered if we were the guys who had posted the pictures of Finkles the other day and we said " That's us!!!" Nice to met Tim, who was heading to the Old Church for the evening fish. He told us there was 7 inches of ice there, although the ice looks bad, it is ok to fish out there. He hasn't been fortunate for walleye, but many perch. Nice to meet you and talk - see you again I'm sure. When we picked up the boat this morning there were 6 portable shelters over on the south side of Hay Bay, they were moving around, so perhaps the fishing wasn't happening. Looks like there is some fishable ice in Hay Bay. We aren't sure if today will be the last soft water expedition or not. Stay Tuned David aka Superdad
  7. OK all you Hard Core Fishers (and you know who you are) Here's the launch ramp scene as we saw it today. Laker John & I hit the first stop on the circuit - Finkles Park in Bath. Looks like a piece of cake getting on the water here. Here's a shot from the water side Travelling along 133 to the ferry, we could see frazil ice in lines off the shore, formed by the winds (they were blowing pretty good today), but the water is open westward past the ferry to almost Q4. The ramp however is TOAST!!!!!!! For the die-hards, we circled via Hay Bay South and hit the ramp at the Old Church. I wouldn't trust the ice of there until we had a bunch of days, way below 0 degs C. There were patches of open water ALL over Hay Bay from the junction at Long Reach all the way to the far east end. BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The weather predictions for the next week indicate only one day - Thursday as the day.................................... Stay Tuned.. David aka Superdad
  8. Thanks for sharing your fishing info. were you seeing many fish up higher in the water column??? They must still be there and on the bite. David aka Superdad
  9. This is a report following a scouting road trip made on Saturday, showing us that the launch ramp was open as was the water.. After our visit to Finkles Park on Saturday, Laker John and I were ready to go on Sunday. Picked up the boat at Hay Bay and headed for Bath and the ramp. Arr'd to see one boat setting off westward!!!! We launched and headed west also, the NW wind wasn't a problem, we motored past the duck hunters on the point and began to troll, just west of the lighthouse. We set four lures at different depths and headed towards the ferry. There wasn't the ice that we had seen on Saturday. On Saturday, the ice stretched to nearly the lighthouse and the fishing was east of that. We trolled several miles marking some fish. We met the boat that we had seen at the launch and they were circling the area just west of Keith Shoal, speaking of which, here's a shot of Keith Shoal. I took some pictures to show that we had fished on Jan 8th, 2012. This was better than the 6th of Jan in 2007 when we fought some really severe winds. This picture shows the water and winds looking toward the ferry. As we trolled by the ice at Keith Shoal green buoy, we noticed the water temp was 32.6 degs F. We were marking fish in the 60-70-80 foot depths and weren't seeing anything above that depth. Made us think that the fish were at their comfort level, temperature wise and didn't appear to be ready to move up and grab our lures. We took off and headed east and began to fish just east of the lighthouse in a little shallower water, we ran some small lures towards the shore and larger lures in the deep water direction. Suddenly, the insode board fired and we had a fish on, as I reeled in there was a huge swirl in the water where the lure would be and then nothing............In fact the CC Shad was cut off----Probably MR Pike. We set up the back up rod and got the lure out, Trolled further and decided that we weren't doing the right thing and felt we should fish closer to the Gap. As I was reeling the outer inside board, the rod bent and board disappeared under water, FISH ON!!!!!!!!!!! Laker John got the board off and grabbed the net as I reeled in the fish. Suddenly,we could see the white of its belly - Mr Pike again. This time he was hooked to a Fingerling with two BIG trebles. John scooped and the fish was ours. A really nice sized fish. The first fish of 2012................ We headed east and began to fish closer to the gap with some smaller lures, CC Shads and Flicker Shads. With the wind changing direction,we had a real quiet period and it was almost like fishing in early spring or late fall. It was really nice with the sun beating down on us. Out of the blue one of the boards in the deeper water fired and Laker John was into a fish, still a 100 feet to go after the board was off and the fish fought like crazy. John skillfully brought the fish up and into the net, she was ours.... The first walleye of 2012.................... We weren't skunked after two fish landed. Trolling along after resetting the line with the fire-tiger Frenzy, we were both satisfied with the results, when that board fired again and this time the board went sideways and under water............. I reeled the fish closer to the boat and John slipped the net under a really nice Lake Trout............. We weighed the fish and it tipped the scales at 9.0lbs. That's the biggest Lake Trout I've ever caught - Hey a Personl Best - Great Stuff!!!!! Our confidence was high and spirits bright, when a board fired again, this time the fish let go before we got the board off. That makes us 3 for 5 - not a bad average for the first fishing of 2012. We decided to call it it a day at 1445 and headed back to ramp and the shore. Laker John has caught fish in that area in the past and was keen to fish there, I had only fished deep water with down-riggers and never saw a fish. His confidence in the area has rubbed off on me and now I'm a believer of that area. I hope everyone enjoys my story about soft-water fishing in January in South-eastern Ontario. Stay Tuned - the weather is showing temps still in the plus levels - never can tell when we'll hit the water again.
  10. Merry Christmas to all LOU fishers Here's a slide show of my 2011 fishing - enjoy the fish pix. The video has been put to bed - sorry if you missed it. Thanks for looking
  11. Laker John and I decided on Thursday night that the winds would be gusty on Friday and deferred to Saturday for the trailer clean-up and boat covering. We were in a hurry to fish, so put off the clean-up stuff til the afternoon. We had the lures in the water at 0815 and began with our 'killer' lures in position. The trolling was good as there was slight breeze and wasn't strong even to slow us down, so the drift bag went over the side and we hit our 1.5MPH trolling speed. We made several passes and the hours were ticking away, I changed to a Stretch +10 Blueberry Muffin and then that rod fired. Hopes were high for a fish or two for the table and this one felt like it, BUT when the fish came to the surface - PIKE!!!!!!! Quickly released and changed lures to a RR Dipstick. We changed the other rod for five minutes but weren't happy (No confidence) with the FLicker Shad. John choose a CC Shad that teeth marks all over it from last year, this is the one!!!! The lure hadn't been tracking for five minutes and the board fired.... John took the rod and brought the fish to the net - a real nice one. We weren't skunked!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We fished for several more hours with nothing happening, marking fish but they were hugging the bottom. I hadn't been happy with my choice of lures and dug around in the tackle bag for something else. My eye caught a Deep Diving Husky Jerk with the blue/silver/orange colours that had been working. Tied that on and checked the Precision Troller for the line length and set her out. Hardly ten minutes passed and that board fired. It felt kinda decent and after removing the board, the fish surfaced - MR PIKE!!!!!!! I was the pike man.... Reset the lines and we were drawing dangerously close to the time to leave the water to get our camp jobs completed and John said "One More Cast" That's almost always a sign for the fish to bite or at least one....... At 1345, the Husky Jerk fired and John was into another one - "This is a good fish" The fish took drag and pulled the rod under the boat and finally I slipped the net under the fish. We've landed four and very happy with the days results, but One More Cast brought us back over the active area and the other rod, now replaced with a Husky Jerk fired and I took the rod and began to work the fish in. It was a GOOD one, then the board disappeared.... John slipped the net and in went the fish, our biggest of the day. It was 1415, a nice pair in 30 minutes..... We quickly reset and a board fired again at 1445, John was unto the rod and brought the fish to the net, a slightly smaller fish but in really great shape and colour. We were heading to the ramp and were trolling in and John said, "Wouldn't it be funny if we had a hit now?" The words were hardly out of his mouth and the board fired, I took the rod and John removed the board and the fish was 20 feet away and shook it's head and was GONE!!!!!!!! Oh well, six for seven, four eyes and a pair of pike - really can't complain. The day was spectacular, no wind and a high temperature, bet it was close to 60 degs F - last week of November - what a day. We got to shore, loaded the boat, took all gear out, brought all the patio furniture in, covered the boat, Thanks to Gilles B. for his help and closed up the trailer until the next time we go SOFT WATER fishing - hopefully late in December. Stay Tuned David aka Superdad
  12. With a fishing derby set for Saturday the 12th, Laker John and I felt we should do some 'pre-fishing' on Friday the 11th. We launched at Shermans and headed to Long Reach to see if we could find some fish.We set the rods at 0915 and began a troll northward. At 0955, one of the boards fired and I was into a BIG fish. How can you tell a big fish????? The planer board was under water for over 45 feet as I slowly reeled it in. Finally the board reappeared and the fish came to the surface. Laker John manned the net and this fish was ours. It's a big fish for sure. The fish tipped the scales at 12.25 lbs and now I have my doubts about its reading. The fish had spun in the net and I was starting to unhook it, when the other board fired at 1005 and John was into a fish. Unhooked the lure from the swivel and he brough the fish into the net. It was a nice 22" fish, quite suitable for the table and the fish was dispatched. We continued fishing up and down and thru the westerly winds gusting and making the troll difficult. We fished until 1430when the winds really blew and we headed back to launch. We had funny feeling about that big fish. Last year, we caught fish that would have almost won the derby, BUT we were a day early - would this be our fate for 2011???? 7th Annual Live Release Fall Classic Walleye Derby ( In Support of University Hospital Foundation Kingston - Kingston General Hospital(Kids at Christmas) Up for breakfast a way before sunup, we headed to the Derby HQ for the livewell check at 0530.... Organizer Les ok'd us and we were off to launch the bat. It was so DARK- "How dark was it?" We couldn't launch the boat until 0620, the clouds were covering the sunrise and our ramp is unpredictable. We were fishing by 0645 and it was easier to see with some sun coming thru. The winds were blowing out of the west and south-west and we had trouble finding some lee to fish. We made a long troll downwind with much difficulty maintaining a constant speed. Headed back upwind, it was easier to keep our speed and a 0800 when the sun began to shine on the water, the board fired and I was hooked up. Trolling into the wind with a couple boards, the gusts and manning nets took a skillful turn with Laker John handling the duties in great fashion. He slipped the net under the fish and the fish scaled at 7lbs. We had a fish in the well for the derby, now we needed a second to round it out. Here's the fish We were very happy to have the one, changing the lures to match the killer lure, I began to set the line again. I hadn't let 25 feet of line and the other board fired at 0815. Laker John was into a fish, I reeled the line in and we cut the power and drifted. John skillfully brought the fish in and it was pulling HARD. The fish came to the surface and I slide the net under her and she was ours - a real monster. Unhooking the fish - she tipped the scales at 12 lbs.... That would be Good entry for the derby. We were both elated with our good fortune, two fish in 20 minutes... Resetting the rods, we continued into the wind and as we approached the waves, we made a quick turn. The Port side board lay flat in the water and finally it began to pull the rod. Wait a second that board is going backward, better check it. John took the board off and there was tension on the line. He netted a nice 22" fish that would grace the table. That fish was dispatched and we trolled downwind. On the up wind troll we could see the winds picking up and we decided that we would take the fish to the weigh-in. As we turned into the wind, we could the large waves crashing on the south shore. We motored very cautiously into the wind and the trip took almost 45 minutes to get to the ramp. We hit the shore and god my fish to the scale - it tipped out at 7.96 lbs - That's more than my Rapala Scale indicated. I called to the weigh people after I released my fish and it swam away for a good release, that we need their weigh basket again. John placed the fish in the basket and the Weigh-Master said "Holy Cow or words to that effect" Johns fish tipped the scales at 13.36 lbs. Now we were really happy, It was in the lead, although we had entered the only fish at that point. The fish swam away and it was a good release. We headed back to Camp and our launch with a very good feeling about the two days of fishing. We put the boat on the trailer and cleaned the boat of our gear and had a toast to the Fish Gods. We headed to the ceremonies and scuttlebutt talk at the Derby HQ, nice to see familar faces although names are hard to remember. Organizer Les Corbay began at 1335, thanking the many sponsors and the assisting crew for the food and prizes. Then he announced the winner - Laker John..................................... There weren't many fish entered, even though there were over 80 registered for the Derby. Fortunately, my fish took fifth place. The same as last year. Sincere congratulations to Les and his crew for a wonderful derby with great Moose Chili and GREAT prizes, everybody's a winner in this Derby. We've got our plans set for next year at the same time, perhaps the winds will abate next year as they were as harsh and creating four foot waves in Hay Bay - That's plenty rough. Once again nice to see everyone supporting this fund raiser and we look forward to 2012. Stay Tuned David aka Superdad
  13. Bayboy rang me the other day asked if I would join him for an afternoon of trolling for walleye, at first I declined but after consultation with the powers that be, I got a go - ahead and joined BayBoy and Laker John. We met at 1000 hrs and headed to Shermans to launch and then we headed to Long Reach to set the lines. We had trolled almost two miile before the outer board fired on a Manns Stretch Plus 20 Blueberry Muffin. Bay boy took the rod and got the planer bopard in and was having a rough time as this was a big fish and was giving all he could handle. When the fish was about 65 feet away, the line went dead and the fish was gone-----The BIG one ALWAYS gets away......................... We turned and headed back to troll downwind and on our second pass, the inner board fired on a Rapala TDD11, Eriedescent, BayBoy took the rod and gently guided a nice 4 lb walleye into the net. We motored back and began a third pass and decided to use the large motor to charge the batteries and just after getting the drift socks in the water and the lines almost set, BayBoy said that he had no throttle response... OH OH!!!!!! Brought everything back into the boat and BayBoy scrambled over the back, removed the cowling and took a look, there was something a miss as he could see some shiny parts in the bottom. He could use his hand to maintain a throttle, but that wasn't a good idea with him leaning over the back of the boat - Don't want any accidental swimming... The decision was made to contact BayGirl on the cell and have her bring the truck and trailer to Desronto, as we could have a the motor running but without a throttle, Running at 2.5MPH. Desronto was an hour or so away at this speed, but that was good as we hit the dock, the truck and trailer arrived. Loaded the boat after a couple guys from Smith Falls loaded theirs with a nice 9-10 lb eye in their cooler. Travelled back to Hay Bay and unloaded the gear and headed for home. Another adventure on Quinte with a boat problem, I had one in Mid Sept when my lower unit shortcircuited and wouldn't respond and I had to use the Trolling motor to get back to the launch ramp. My wife is cautious as she says "Things happen in three's" and we've had two experiences so far - we hoping she is wrong. Looking forward to Nov 11 & 12. PS - BayBoy repaired the motor the next day, it was something quite easy to resolve.
  14. With the weather forecast of south 10kph winds, Laker John and I decided to hit the water on the 31st, was it a Halloween omen????? Launching at Shermans, we decided that we had best check out the deep water east of the ferry, starting to troll at 0830, we trolled along with 3-4 boats towards Keith Shoal, fishing the north side firts and crossing over to fish down wind on the south side. We changed out lures every 30 minutes or so to insure we might detect some preference. Finally, the inner board fired and I grabbed the rod and WHAT a pull, perhaps it was Mrs 15lber?????? Even at 100' of line I couldn't move the fish and it took lots of line......Slowly the rod did its job and the fish relented toward the net. Then a glimpse of the fish and SHEEPSHEAD- D'ohhhhhhhhh We didn't weight it or take a picture, but the fish was in the 12-14lbs range, they sure can pull hard. They are good experience if you haven't had much experience fishing large fish as they will test you and your equipment. - Rapala TDD11 Eriedescent(sp). We had another strike on the same board, but as Laker John to reel in, the line went dead- we're 1 for 2. Resetting the lines we continued and on a inward turn, the board fired again, Laker John took the rod and he was tested as was the equipment and the net slide under another Sheepy - about the same as the first...... Same Lure..... We continued to troll to the ferry with nothing to show for our efforts. We left Adolphus Reach and headed for the confines of some leeward shores. We set out the rods and began our lunch and we had a strike with no hook up - Dang 2 for 4. Eating our lunch and trolling is ok until the rod fires and then Action Stations!!!!!!!!, John gotthe net and got the planer board off and I slowly reeled, OH OH - I Said, Felling like those other ones from the morning, just a dead weight taking some drag , but the headshakes were different, Finally the fish was at the boat and John yelled, she's a monster. Into the net she went and handshakes of congratulations. Dug the scale out and she tipped in at 12 lb even. This one was on a CC Shad... We're not skunked in the walleye dept. The lines were reset and we trolled about five minutes and board fired again, Laker John took the rod and he felt sure this was a walleye and sure enough, we saw a nice keeper walleye come to the surface and into the net. This one was eyeballed at 3.5lbs. Same Lure Our day was complete as we had landed a pair of eyes and one was a quality sized fish and one was table fare - everyone's happy. We had spent a long day on the water and we were able to land a couple eyes. The Halloween fishing had given us some tricks and some treats. Looking forward to Nov 12th for the Shermans Point Derby in support of the Kingston and Napanee Hospitals. Stay Tuned David aka Superdad
  15. The winds were supposed to be S10 on Friday, so Laker John and Myself decided it was time to try something different in catching walleyes. We headed to the big Lake at 0500 from Kingston and hit the water (lines in and fishing at 0800). We thought we saw another boat in the distance and sure enough it was the G2 boat, I guess great minds think alike!!!!! We trolled some deep water but marked most of the fish in 25-35 feet. Like I said, the winds were supposed to be S10, but they blew harder than that with those gentle two foot rollers and strong gusts, we fished towards the lee but ventured back out when it appeared as though it had died a bit. Suddenly, the inside board screamed and went under water - FISH ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laker gave me his brand new rod as he drove the boat in wind, the fish pulled hard with many severe head shakes. As it came close to the boat, it began a long run and took almost 35 feet of line- OH OH!!!!Not a sheepshead................... The boat spun in the wind and the other planer boards ended up about ten feet from the boat, but the fish came to the surface and Laker John slide the brand new Frabill sliding net under the fish. It's a monster he cried...... Taking the large Live Target lure out the mouth and net, the walleye tipped the scales at an even 11 pounds.......... The firsts: Christened the new Browning salmon/steelhead trolling rod, landed our first fish on a Koppers lure and used the new sliding Frabill net. Quite a series of events. Slide the fish back and a quick handshakeand then the untangle the rods and the boards - no Problem....... We continued to fish into the afternoon, seeing G2 depart just after lunch time.. we pulled the pin around 1530 and headed back to shore. We had a good day, not many fish, but a great learning experience and that's what fishing is all about - learning and growing as fishers. We're hoping to get out fishing next week and we'll see what happens. Stay Tuned David aka Superdad
  16. Hey there, Sound like you've got them dialled in... Good Job Fun with two fish on and only two hands - LOL
  17. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Superdad ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): may 14 Time on Water: 4 hours Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: 61.4 Location: Long Reach - Bay of Quinte Got out on Saturday with HayBay Larry and headed to the big water of Long Reach, Trolled the west shore to Thompsons and back to Shermans. Lots of boats just north the light at Shermans (looked like a convention) eventually they started drifting away. The weather held and the mist and clouds weren't a bother, the water temp in Long Reach was 61.4 Degs F. We were trolling cranks and stickbaits off the boards and not having much luck, after 1.5 hours I decided to try a method that produced a fish last week, put the Husky Jerk back 250' on a flat line and let her go. Twenty minutes and the reel sceamed - "fish on" Took a few minutes to reel in the line and Larry slipped the net under a 19" -2.5 lbs walleye. The Husky Jerk payed off again. We continued the troll and as we thinking about heading in, we trolled over Shermans Point Shoal and my reel screamed again. This was a much better pull and Lrry netted a real nice 6.25 lber. I am no longer a Berkley Flicker Shad Virgin......... These lures are starting to produce - I know Laker John hit a fish with one last week. Keith and Gary will be happy to know that their creations are paying off - at least for some. Both of us left our cameras on the shore, so there are no pix to see. If it rains any more, we may grow webbed feet.....The water is still coming up and the wind drives it also. Hopefully the long weekend will have some clear skies and no moisture. Stay Tuned
  18. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Superdad ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): May 7 - 8 Time on Water: 9 hours Weather/Temp: 52 - 55 Degs F After I picked my son in Belleville at 0015 on Saturday AM, it was a short night before the alarm went off to get ourselves moving and hit the fishing grounds. Away from the dock at 0735 and a 25 minute run east of the ferry. Began the troll, getting six rods, four boards out over the side with the right speed. The SW wind in front of the cement plant turned around the county shore and was on our backs headed easterly and wasn't causing any problems with the trolling line. First flat line fired at 0900 and SuperDave grabbed the rod, it was my 7'6" rod, not an 8'6" trolling rod, so he had a little work to bring in the fish, it was a walleye and RedcapBert netted it, we have broken the ice. Fished tipped the scales at 7.3 lbs. Not bad for a quick start. The fish had hit a Blue/Silver/Orange J11 Husky Jerk. Trolled over the shoal and around the bouy heading back to where we started and at 1000, the inside board screamed and RedcapBert had the rod. Superdave netted the fish which scaled at 5.25lbs. Holy cow - two fish first hour......... That fish hit a Spro Pink Minnow45, it's quite the lure. This year it's got browns and walleyes. We continued trolling and changing lures, boats came and left the shoal area, we only saw one other net over the side. The trolling continued til 1430 and we headed for Hay Bay and the dock. Superdave had his fish weighed and entered in the tournament - firsts fish entered by him- something new. Talked to BayBoy on his dock fishing for perch and saw the OPP checking theboats near Ram Is. Docked the boat, and headed for the camp and brown pops that were waiting. Here's RedCapBert with his first walleye of 2011. Thought was to go out after supper, but we were beat and after the Kentucky Derby and steaks and drinks, we passed on the evening fishing. Decided that Sunday would be best served close to homebase, so we fished from 0800 - 1200 on the shoals close to Bayview Resort, we landed three, a dink, 16 & 18 inches for the table. While the weekend didn't produce large numbers of fish, we were satisfied with the quality of the fish we got Saturday and happy for the table fare on Sunday. The water temp in Hay Bay was 54 - 55 degs F and the water east of the ferry at Q1 was 51.5 degs F. We had a good weekend with three generations fishing and enjoying the company. Stay Tuned

  20. Love Mr Walleyes clothing attire - cool!!!!!!!!!!!! but warm on the water
  21. Forgot to post this the other day. The sun was shinning and the wind was predicted to be decent, so Laker John and I decided to hit Lake O for another kick at the browns. Grizz had saying that they were still on the bite - so why not???? We got on the water with the waves a tad larger than we thought they would be. So we set the rods out at 0955, started the troll and at 1002, the inside board fired ... Fish On!!!!! Sweet. It was supposed to be John's turn on the rod but with the winds blowing and waves crashing, I brought in the first of the day - Brown Trout??? NO a nice 4.5 lb Lake Trout. My Lake Ontario Lake Trout virginity has been broken- my first laker. To many waves and the outer rod fired off, so the laker was released and the board had settled down, flag wasn't moving.....BUT it looked funny. I reeled in the board and John said, "There's a fish on!!!!" Slowly line was brought in and wonders of wonders - a brown trout.... Double Header.... The time on the watch showed 1010. Two fish - ten minutes - guess they're on the take. We saw three boats close to the beach fighting the whitecaps and rollers, but we continued on our troll. Around 1040, the rod fired again and another brown trout was landed and released. As we turned and began a down-wind troll, the inner board fired again, this timeJohn was on the rod and he couldn't move the fish, the boards was hardly moving in and then the line went slack - Darn!!!!!! The line broke... CRAP as we looked out, the outer board fired, so we put the rod in the holder and brought in the outer board. Nice fish says John and finally the fish appeared - a good size one, doesn't look like a brown - It's not as the fish slipped into the net - really nice 7lb Walleye. What a surprise - as was the laker - three species on the day. We hoped the wind and the rollers would die down, but slowly we came to the realization that they were staying for a while. Decided that this was our last pass before heading to shore, Suddenly the outer board near shore fired and John was on the rod. Another nice fish said he and he brought the brown to the net. This one is for the table of a dear friend. We made it to shore around 1200, five landed and one lost not a bad two hours..... Here's what we were seeing; Back on shore with solid footing, we were able to snap a shot of John's Trout; It sure was tough fishing but very nice to catch the what we did. 22. The weather forecast was promising, so Laker John and I decided to hit the water of Lake Ontario for some trout action. We got out on the water about 0945 and had the lines set by 1000, first hit and no hook up at 1020, another at 1040, we were wondering what we had to do to get them to stay on the lure. We switched from spoons to stickbaits. Saw Grizzly troll by, but with the lines out, opted not to get too close for a chat. We saw him leave for West Point and then we had a strike, landed a nice brown trout. 20 minutes later the rod fired again and Laker John hit a nice 8lber. To continue to explain each fish would require a long message, so I will summarize the day quickly. We landed seven browns and mised six other strikes. We got our fish on a pink Spro (discontinued lure) and Smithwick Rogues (Blue/Silver/Orange) fishing the off colour water which reached a top temperature of 38.3 degs F. We had a pair of double headers and managed to land two of them - Oh Darn!!!!!! The pix below indicate the quality of the fish. We got off the water at 1700, it was a long and tiring day but with good results. Nice to be back on the soft water. Stay Tuned David aka Superdad
  23. Paul, That's a long water voyage from Clayton to Quinte, you'd probably be best to trailer over and find a place. When are you planning on coming over???? Have you checked the quintefishing website??? It has lodging and info you might want to look at.
  24. Landshark Did you find those Power Dives?? Pro Tackle had a bunch. For the old Manns Stretch plus 20's - ebay is a place that has them once in a while. They have become HARD to find. Cheers David aka Superdad
