  1. Excellent explanation!!

I'm a Lowrance guy so I use my old smatphone and the Navionics Boating app. Link my phone to my Gen3 by wifi and log on my phone then once at home I update my App on my home wifi.

I did a lake in a remote area last summer where there were nothing:

    Lake Hebert

This a part all the other logs that I did on lakes that are not chart with very much details.

  2. There is a good sale that end at the end of this month. $30 less is not too bad for what the card offer.

You got to be sure that you're unit can run those cards. There is a document to verify that:

Looks like you need the 648P for lake Ontario

  3. I'm not talking about NY tx. It's because a lot of people thinks that they are customs duties to pay, As for taxes I also pay taxes in my province when I buy something and it's even worst for us Canadian because we pay federal and provincial taxes on everything that we bring over the border. And because our money took a hit we also pay 30% moere when we buy in US currency. This is a real economy for you guys. There is a lot of car dealers that are actually taking advantage of this, they are crossing the border going back in the US with truck load of cars & trucks.

  4. ProfT,

Easy to transfer you're waypoints from LCX to Elite. To get the 1ft contour without a Platinium is also something you can get with the Elite; 1st the unit needs to run the latest software version and you need the new Navionics+ and if you already own a Navionics or a card from any other company you can get a Navionics Update at 1/2 price and unlock the Update with the old acrd and that Update become a Navionics+.

The new Navionics+ and Update are 16gig and contain all the Canadian & US water, the only thing you need to do is to register you're new card within 60 days from purchase and download the Sonarchart HD layer on the region you are fishing.

  6. No taxes from the Canadian sellers and no duties or taxes to cross the border so it's the sale price in US $; that mean 25-30% because of the exhange. Yes NY won't forget to charge the 8%, you're lucky only 8%, I won't tell you how much is our taxes up in Quebec!!!

Princecraft is the in the same range as Lund.

The car dealers are taking advantage at the $ exhange, they are crossing back the border with truck load of cars that will be sold in the US.

  7. Even the regular Lowrance transducer can be use on CHIRP and it gives excellent result. The specific transducer for CHIRP is the TM150 and he is superior. Last season I use CHIRP all the time and on most of the case I use the Medium frquency; I was using the regular 83/200 HST-WSBL.

Next season I will be using the TM150 with my Gen3.

For those that want to get everything without the networking high end of the HDS you can get the new Elite7 Ti Touch screen with the new Totalscan transducer: CHIRP, Structurescan, wifi, bluetooth and more at a very affordable price (around $750)

  8. YSk8man has done a excellent post. With the new Lowrance Generation you have the CHIRP function that is a major improvement for detecting fish and baitfish. If you don't need to network multiple unit you can get the new Elite 7Ti with the HDI transducer or if you think you can use the structure and sidescan you then choose the new Totalscan transducer. The Elite run for around 600-700$ so if you think the 7 is to small you can get 2. You are getting touch screen,2D, downscan with the HDI ducer,2D,CHIRP and if you choose the Totalscan you got all this + sidescan, WIFI, Bluetooth,NMEA2000 and you can also buy the bundle that include a Navionics+ for about $50 more on a card that is selling $200.
