  1. I would like to invest in at least (1) copper set up and add it to our arsenal. What in you recommendation would you suggest for a copper set with backing and leader? Thanks for you suggestions. Tony (Slapshot)
  2. Howie, As I was reading over the posts, I came across this thread. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! and thanks for all your help and info. Tony (Slapshot)
  3. Shade and Has Been, Thanks for the valuable info. We fish out of the River or Olcott for the most part, I would just like to catch a few fish and any info that will increase our odds, I will certainly take. Thanks for the picture set up with the cheater lines, I always wondered how that worked. Well I guess, the only thing now is to get out there and see if we can make things work. Good luck to you guys this year. Tony (Slapshot)
  4. Great discussion. I am in the same boat, no pun intended. I have been testing the water of Lake O for the past 2 years and have tried almost everything. Especially after reading the posts on this site. When I try what is recommended on this site, to say the least we have been skunked many times. I guess we still have a lot to learn, so any help is greatly appreciated. We have 2 riggers, 2 Big Jon Otters, 1 copper (700'), 1 lead core, and 6 braid (w/ dipseys). One thing we have not tried is using a free slider or slider. How do you set this up on a 4 rod spread? Where do the cheaters go and how are they rigged? Maybe this set up will increase our chances. Thanks. Tony (Slapshot)
  5. Thinking of heading out of DUnkirk this weekend. From your reports and previous reports where would be a good place to start 70 - 80 feet or 120 feet. Thanks, Tony
  6. Haven't been out much this year. The weather looks to be good and I finally have some time to get out so we're heading to Wilson. We can launch there right? How's the fishing and what are people using and what depth are you guys fishing at? Thanks and good fishin' Slapshot
  7. I plan on fishing the bar tomorrow, any recommendations? Will the fishing be any good there? If so where would be a good place to launch? Any idea what to use? 8. do you need anything under the 600' of power pro backing like mono or something like that. Do you just attach the power pro to the spool? Thanks Tony
  9. I just received 600' of copper, 500' of power pro backing and 50' leader, what reel would be best to go with, OKUMA 55 CL or CV, or the PENN GTI 345? Thanks Slapshot (Tony)
  10. Thanks Yankee, as I will be trying this for the first time. Although, I fished out of Olcott a bunch of times last year with not much success, but at least I'm trying. I should get lucky at one time or another. Thanks Tony (Slapshot)
  11. Looking to start fishing there in late April, and into May, or upon your recommendation as what the best time to fish there is. I am flexable. Tony (Slapshot)
  12. I'm looking to get out early this year and head to the BAR. Could any one offer any suggestions on what to use spoon, rapalas, flies and what colors to use? Thanks I appreciate the help. Hopefully we'll do better than last year. Oh, I also broke down and invested in a copper set up. I will be learning how to use that as well. Only time will tell!! Thanks Tony (Slapshot)
  13. I have an 18' Lund currently with manual riggers. I'm looking to purchase a pair of electric downriggers with a longer boom, longer than 24" (2 ft.) . I have seen some for sale on this site, and they are all sold. So, if someone has any to sell, let me know. I'm tired of cranking them up by hand. Thanks, Tony (Slapshot)
  14. Nice report!! I was out on saturday as well and only managed 1 coho and a couple of knock offs. When we returned to port a sherriff asked me if your truck was mine. I checked it out, sorry. But you guys had a good day on the lake. Tony (Slapshot)
  15. I'm thinging of heading out of Olcott this weekend. I have been out of town and working alot so I finally have time to get back out. I read many of the posted reports and fishing has been fantastic, however I heard that the past winds we had changed the fishing. Could I get some information as to where to start/ depth and/ or what is working? Thanks in advance. I also keep my radio to channel 68. 16. I'm thinking of heading out of olcott sat. and possibly sun. could anyone give my some info. on hoe the fishing is and where to start. I'v been out of town alot lately and have reading reports on how fantastic the fishing has been. I also heard of the strong winds that changed things. I'm just looking for a little help. Thanks. Tony (Slapshot)
  17. I agree completely, the main focus is to have FUN!! I also undertand the charter captains have to catch fish to make their clients happy. There is enough lake for all to fish and have fun!
  18. One more thing I want to clear up. Our boat is 18" 6" and can hold up to 4 people, so we use a max of 3 people and the necessary equipment. We have plenty of room to fight a fish and be comfortable, since we are well organized. When your fishing you can't think for the other fishermen out there, you can only try to make the best possible decision and try not to cause any problems. So, by no means did we have to INTENTIONALLY tangle anyones lines, because I would't want someone to do that to us. It was a mistake!! Tony (Slapshot)
  19. I appreciate everyones input on this situation. There are a great group of guys on this site/ LOU Members, and I repect your opinions, since you spend more time on the water then I do. However, we did not have a steller day of fishing on Saturday, it was just nice to be out there. Nothing serious happened, so my motto is, NO BLOOD, NO FOUL!! Thanks. Tony (Slapshot)
  20. Guys I appreciate the info. and clarification. By no means do I want to start trouble, with anyone. I'm trying to get an idea for what could have been done to correct the issue that happened. I really value the opinions offer on this board about fishing information and issues that arise. I just think that if I were getting close to another boat/ fisherman I would change my heading and re-route. As mentioned above, I would not want to cross lines and create a mess. The lake is a big area. If we were in the wrong, I will apologize. I agree we both should have made some consessions so that we both were happy. I'm not upset, I don't want to step on any toes. Once again thanks and hope to hear from you guys on the water. Tony (Slapshot)
  21. I'm looking for other thoughts on a situation I ran into this weekend while fishing out of Olcott. We were trolling in a W/ NW direction, when another boat came up from behind us sort of on the same line and moving faster than we were. They went a head of us, cutting us off, and came into our way point. They came pretty close to us and proceeded to call us names and cutting us off, and told us to turn off. I grant it their boat was bigger, we fish out of an 18" LUND. I don't know if he thought he had a bigger boat and the right of way, but he was wrong!! We let it go and continued on our way, although I have a short fuse and my father in the boat. If it were just my buddy and myself, there might have been a problem. I have no tolerance for meat heads like those guys, when you have such a big area to fish. In your opinion, were we right to continue our way point? Thanks. 22. I'm looking to fish Lake O. for the first time this year. Where would be a good spot to start fishing? I will be running 6 lines, any ideas on what to use for tackle? Thanks, guys. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Tony (Slapshot)
  23. I know this question has probably been asked a million times, but what reel would you use for copper and how many feet of copper do most use? Is it common to let out more than 400' of copper? Thanks. Tony (Slapshot)
  24. Thanks for all the great info. I guess I'll have to invest in a LEAD CORE AND COPPER lines. Just keep ringing up the bill!
  25. I fish out of an 18.5 LUND, that has 2 down riggers and boards. There are usually 3 of us who fish on a regular basis. I normaly fun a dipsy on the the outsides with SD and fly and then stack 2 rods on each down rigger. This is only our second year salmon fishing on Lake O. Still learning, I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks. Slapshot (Tony)
