I ended up getting the Shakespeare splitter and I'm blown away with how great the reception is now. Every radio station comes in crystal clear. Thanks for the suggestion! Sent from my IN2019 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I've always had excellent success with Standard Horizon VHF radios. I also have a handheld radio as a backup should the fixed-mount fail. As with any communication device, your antenna is the heart of the entire system. Make sure you have a quality antenna, as well. VHF is "line of sight", so the higher the antenna, the better range you will have. Sent from my IN2019 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Just curious if anyone has any insight on a company or business that may have leftover factory canvas in stock for my 221 Islander. I need a new aft curtain, as the mice somehow got to mine over the winter. I had new Eisenglas made 3 years ago at a shop near me (I know the owner) and I reached out to him a month ago about my aft curtain. I took the old one to him and he said he could make it off the old one's pattern, be a week or two. I called him Friday and he said he hasn't started it yet because he can't get the material. He said hopefully this week, but don't count on it. I've called a few other canvas shops and they all say the same thing, can't get the material. About 10 years ago, I was able to get a complete factory original canvas set directly through Starcraft, but they don't show any available now, as the Islander has been discontinued for years now. Any ideas on places that may have an original aft curtain available? Boat is a model year 2000. Sent from my IN2019 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Where I troll, reception is hit-n-miss. It's weird. If I'm trolling north or east, I pick up some stations. As soon as I loop around and troll back, the radio stations are scratchy. I had the wire antenna mounted on the starboard side window, so I attribute it to the antenna not being on land side, and when I'd loop around, the antenna would be facing Canada and wide open water. I do have a fixed-mount VHF. I'll look for the splitter you mentioned. That'd make things easy! Sent from my IN2019 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I'm looking to change out the wire antenna for the AM/FM radio on the boat. All the current one does is plug into the radio and then a coated wire (about 3' long) runs out behind the helm to the hole where all the wires come up and out to the electronics. It then attaches to the side window. Reception out on the lake is hit and miss, depending on the direction of travel. The radio is older and doesn't have any USB or Bluetooth capabilities. Aside from mounting another antenna on the boat, what is everyone with an older radio using for reception? I'm mainly in Mexico Bay and off Oswego. Are there better glass-mount antennas that work well? Boat is a Starcraft Islander. Thanks for any input! Sent from my IN2019 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Wanted onboard chargers

I agree with Fishin' Addiction's suggestion. I have a NOCO Genius charger on my boat and it's, hands down, the best onboard battery charger I've ever had. Sent from my IN2019 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Nice trailers. Also consider the 5 Starr series, which is Load Rite's less expensive line. Same quality as the Load Rite line, but I think the big differences are bias ply tires and incandescent lights, where the Load Rite line comes with radials and LED lights.
