  1. Alright, sorry, it's just odd to me that you are aware of such things, seemed like an assumption, that's all.

No problem you don't know me and wouldn't know I've worked that area for 15 years. Just like any sport you have some great guys and others that are turds that will get over on anyone they can. Sean

  2. Errabbit it was by the pound as well.

I disagree Hookedup. I still keep all the perch I can for the freezer. I love having a nice stockpile of filets for visiting family etc. Priorities change, monetary situations change.

Perch are worth the most per lb this year then I have ever seen. Didn't change my mind to keep the freezer as full as I can.

When you have a school teacher guiding a bunch of students in a direction you don't agree with, well it's important or more so to speak up. This is a representative of the state paid by tax dollars who is pushing a bull crap agenda and proselytizing his message with youngster's voices. It's pitiful.

You may love to eat them and that's great fill your freezer, no problem with that. But all those guys parked at Severne 7 days a week in the brutal weather sure as hell are not all doing it because they love fish. I could care less but let me pull one of them over for an expired trailer registration, and here them **** how their tax dollars pay my salary. I pay more in taxes then they make all year as they make money off fish while getting benefits from the state. That's a whole other issue and I'm in no way saying this is you. Sean

  3. Dam this thread got interesting LOL. No servay needs to be taken to decide if a perch Fisherman who sells fish would still fish as much, keep as many, or spend as many days targeting fish if they couldn't sell them. Anything with a profit on it will get more pressure. Look at tuna if any Joe blow could sell blue fin tuna we would all be out looking for them. Just like if perch were worth big money guys would come out of the woodwork untill they flooded the market. If the market/demand grew then they would be gone. It's small time now so not a problem that has been dove on. I check Severne launch daily and in the worst winter weather the same guys are there. It's not because they love fishing and obviously they are retired or don't need to look for work. Not sure what the answer is and I'm not bashing anyone. I run Charters and pay taxes on the money I make, crap I can't even get a warranty on a boat motor because I'm concidred commercial. Charter clients pay for the trip and the experience they don't pay for fish. And in my opinion and group of kids or kid that can jump on board an issue and get involved should never be torn apart. Have a great season everyone! Sean

  4. Txs Les. Yea, really hate to paint it but if I'm docking g all year. Might be th the way to go. Now we have to get together again. It's been too long.

Sent from my SM-G900V using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Sucks painting them but if your keeping it in all year you want to do it. That's why you lose speed not from all the crap on bottom but fiberglass absorbs water eventually if not painted right, adds weight to the boat That's why you want to get a non painted boat out early to let it dry before a freeze.

  5. It is a PROVEN FACT that the elk herds in and around all areas that have large wolf packs are at or near all time lows. I have been a life member of the rocky mountain elk foundation for almost 20 yrs...look it up they have all the #s anyone could ever ask for in terms of facts...good or bad about Elk and wolf #s. The elk numbers in the park years ago were at all times high and even too high, so YES the habitat has come back now that are fewer Elk. anyone who spends any time there hiking or getting off the beaten path by getting out of there cars & hiking or camping in Yellowstone will Prove the point that there are not nearly the # of deer or elk in the park that should be or that the habitat can sustain. can you see elk in the park? yes but, when I say difficult to see they are compared to what it use to be or what it should be! Most ANY outfitter or hunter in the western states does NOT want to see "10 billion" elk running around most of them just want to see a substaniable healthy herd..in areas of HIGH wolf #s they do not have that. I have seen 1st hand how the wolves and the Grizzlies will now actually come to the sounds of gunshots because the know it may be a free meal! anyone who hunts the west where these animals are can tell you that . as stated in a previous post it is not just the Elk they actually take down it is how they are always around the herds and the stress they put on them...especially during calving. many more elk now "abort" there calves and has been PROVEN it is do to the High stress levels caused by wolf packs. as I said before I DO believe we need wolves in the wild to help keep things in check...but until we start keeping them in check the elk/ deer herds are going to continue to decline. as far as "about the $$" do you think the towns of pulaski or oswego would even exsist if the introduced a predator that came in and wiped out 70% of the salmon we chase?...I think not. Hunters do the same in the western states and keeps those business and family going. When hunters book trips with outfitters now One of the big questions is "do you have wolves" when the answer is yes many hunters move on to the next area!

Exactly my point. Outfitters now post when they dont have wolfs to help sell Hunts. I know I've booked in areas without them for that reason. Like you said with the bears, I lost an Elk in BC due to a moma grizz and her two cubs after they came to the gunshot. They get smart when they know they can't be shot.

  6. I'm not starting a pissing match. You will take environmental advise from someone at the park who shows you time line pictures of how the willows and plant life has come back since the Elk numbers have been cut. Sure that is good for the beaver and other critters. Part they dont mention is what controls the wolf population? What do they stop reproducing and say let's eat more Elk. One wolf eats an average of 22 Elk per year, and that's if he doesn't lose any of it to other animals like bears, birds, and coyotes. Then with that they need more kills. Guys don't spend and pump millions of dollars a year into the Western economy to go after wolf. I have no problem with them but I don't think they planned on the wolf's being as successful as they have been.

  7. BS dont believe the hype from anti wolf ranchers

The park this thriving now that the elk population is under control

And I have no clue what the poster above is talking about, I go to yellowstone every year and it is NOT difficult to see elk.

The reason you see less elk is because without the wolves there they overpopulated causing loss of habitat for animals such as beaver who crate valuable wetlands within the park.

Ha Ok. Like the above poster said go hunt Elk with some of the outfitters around the park or call a few and see how the Elk herd is crap in wolf areas. Or visit the park and listen to the LIB wolf lovers and see how great they are. Look at BC up in Canada wolf numbers are so high they are crushing the Moose population.

  8. Wyoming does have a draw for Buffalo and they do hunt them outside of the park. As for the wolves they have decimated the Elk on the park. I'm sure once the elk are gone they will start on the Bison. They could make alot of hunters happy if they just issued more Bison tags and let them hunt the park.

  9. As expected MOST in attendance were there because they were concerned about LACK of deer numbers in our area. Unfortunately, the presentation was focused on deer management and population reduction... There is supposed to be more info regarding upcoming regulation possibilities at the meeting next week. Most of what they were saying through the webinar seemed to relate mainly, if not only to urban/suburban deer plans/ ideas. Very lie regarding things such as abuse of nuisance permits, too many DMP's etc... Hopefully they will be addressed at next weeks meeting. Show up if you can. Meetings will be in the same places.

Thanks for the info! Population reduction what a joke. I just finished walking 300 acres in fresh snow four deer tracks does and fawn. Same and only four we had all season. But farmers in my area still think they are eating their crops. Maybe they can kill those four on a permits this summer and save a kernel of corn.

  10. I have some newer 700's and a custom built rifle on a 700 action no problems with them. I did have a 700 in 300 mag when I was a kid it would fire when you put the safety off. Didn't know about this problem back then so my dad took it to a gunsmith and had it fixed. This was 25 years ago so I'm sure they have known for years that they had a problem.

  11. I have a florida concealed carry and a Utah and I can carry in a lot of state,s,even if you pass thru a state that does not honor your permit,s if you keep the pistol in a locked box with clip and ammo away I believe you can pass thru without problem,s

As long as its not NY if you don't have a NY permit.

  12. We hit Ohio with Sunfish Valley Whitetails this year and had a lot of fun. Saw a ton of deer and I was the only one to not connect out of our group of 3. My dad scored on a nice 12pt with some cool brow tines and another guy got a really nice 9pt. The buck my dad shot was the smallest out of the 3 shooters he saw. He missed a slammer on The 4th day. We're going back next year.

Nice to here. I take it you would recommend them. Looking to book one myself you going back for gun?

  13. Thanks Wes, and Mark. Many hours of shooting spent with all my girls. Sierra is doing alot of long range shooting with me. The pic is a 1200 yard target. I am working on future trips with the three girls, Illinois deer and Wyoming Elk this coming year with them. I have no problem busting my ass working to keep them hunting. Best money you can spend.

  14. It's kinda funny how me being concerned well over a month ago labeled me as a "whiner", yet now for the most part most are agreeing and starting to "whine". Lol So maybe if you guys are sick if not seeing deer then maybe we should all just take a step back and take a break and not be concerned about what's going on!

    .

Nice! LOL. I've been saying it since 2002, its so bad here on our farm in chemung county and my land in Schuyler that we are not hunting any of it. Some areas are loaded but they are small pockets or in city limits. I'll put two to three hundred miles on a night driving in rural areas working. And the deer aren't there. I hope some changes are coming in the future. I'd love a reduced doe tag limit, a one buck limit, and an antler restrictions. I hunt out West and you can see how management works.

  15. Well the meeting did not go the way I thought it would , short story of it , they do not want any part of it , so there will be no date , no event ... Sad sad sad :(

Not surprised. They sure as hell would take your money if you donated it. They have done some great things but they also have some of the highest paid executives of any charity organizations and have sold private donors information for profit. Kind of pisses you off when a select few get rich in the name of helping someone else.

  16. With a good scope and only a couple rounds you can be on at 25 then back up to 100 and finish up. More important is that you have a good rest, get some sand bags under the forestock and butt stock. Nothing touching barrel or the front sling stud mount. I Did a test one day at a shooting school just letting the front stud mount hit or sit on a sand bag made a rifle shoot two feet high at 1000 yards. Not that you would notice much at 100 its the little things that can drive you nuts when setting up a scoped gun. When you're just starting out hunting keep your shots close 100 yards is a hell of a long way with a slug gun in the woods if you don't have much trigger time.
