  1. I like to fillet, brine and prepare my own meat strips. Looking for someone to split a case of whole herring. PM me - do not respond as a post. Thanks!
  2. I do have a rudder on my bowmount. I definitely noticed a difference in the capability of the motor to maintain boat position in the strong currents on the Niagara River . I'm not sure how much difference it has made when using the bowmount as the autopilot. What I have noticed is how important it is to begin immediately using the kicker in conjunction with the bowmount as soon as I start trolling, especially with 4 customers onboard going into a chop. I got into the habit of using the bowmount itself to troll in an effort to get fishing asap and then I would get busy resetting lines etc and run on just the bowmount for longer than I was aware and with 4 customers + me the batteries would get depleted and my electric planer reels which are wired to the bowmount batteries will run pretty slow getting the boards in at the end of a trip.
  3. I strongly advise you to consider all aspects of the bowmount purchase: 1.) A bowmount system is composed of 4 parts a) the bowmount b) the batteries c) the controller (foot, bluetooth remote etc) and d.) the onboard charging system. 2.) Think hard thru all you will want this system to accomplish because there are several factors to consider; a) Are you going to be using the bowmount only for rod in hand fishing (drifting rivers, jigging, bass techniques, etc) or are you going to be using it for the aforementioned purposes as well as for trolling? b) If you are using it for trolling, will you be using it alone to provide propulsion or in conjunction with a main or kicker motor doing the 'pushing' and the bowmount doing autopilot duty? 3.) How big (lbs thrust required) and tall (shaft length required) is your vessel and are you going to stay in that boat for quite awhile. 4.) the answers to all these questions are pretty important if you want an integrated system that will meet all your needs. -Tight Lines! P.S. FYI I use a 22' aluminum outboard boat w/ 220 hp main, 9.9 kicker to do charters on the Niagara river, Finger lakes, Long Island Sound and Lake Ontario and Lake Erie .This vessel is equipped with a 115 lb thrust Min Kota Terrova AP Spotlok, Saltwater 36 volt unit, 3 batteries and a 4 bank charger (the 4th bank charges 1 of this boats starting batteries) I use both a bluetooth controller and a corded foot pedal,. I have learned the hard way to think as much as I can about overall considerations and what I might do next that I'm not doing now before making a bowmount investment.
  4. They were in Olcott 3 weeks ago. USGS. Who We Are | U.S. Geological Survey (usgs.gov)
  5. What are you targeting , in what FOW?
  6. Run 65# braid- minimizes issues, you're not jigging so don't sweat the sensitivity.
  7. I run SDs on braid as my outside divers on Ontario, with Dipsys on wire as inside divers ( in July and August I often run the Mag dipsys inside). On Erie I have started running both inside and outside Slide divers on braid. I usually run the mag kit equipped divers on the inside. Based on advice from Mr. 580 I will be letting the divers slide on 40 lb mono this year. Unfortunately due to the difference between Kings and Wallye I use completely different rods and reels for SDs on Erie and Ontario but it’s 2 different boats too so …
  8. Need a dozen GL235 Glittered Chartruese Blue Back OB and a dozen J194 PrismFlash Chartruese
  9. Heed this advice" I suggest you send a Private Message to L&M on this site. Hank is an excellent marine mechanic and a moderator here. He will have the best answer for you. " (Quote is from a reply above) What I say is : It's always a good idea to get the opinion of someone who actually does this stuff for a living and has done so for a long time AND - if you don't listen then at least INSTALL AN ACTUAL ANTI SIPHON CHECK VALVE going to the kicker
  10. Selling my used course plotting kit and complete course study materials with chapter tests etc. Pm with an offer if interested. Thanks
  11. I'd be careful putting marked copper line itself in a big board planer release- if you're bound and determined then go with Clippers and a rubber band.
  12. MagLips in size 4.0 and 4.5 work well off 3 way rigs with a 10-15" dropper with 1 oz lead. Good idea to familiarize with that piece of bottom by looking at contour maps before you go or Navionics. Watch your sonar and work the contours where you have the bottom going from 60 to 20. Watch your GPS if you don't have a Canadian license - the closest slice of that terrain to the mouth of the river is right on the US/ Canadian line.
  13. Jeez, we used to think nothing of running to Ginna from the Coast Guard Station at Sodus in Feb back in the day!
  14. Hughes is often not really open for the super early going. Lot's of times there is a snow pile in front of launch so check it out 1st. Looks like it might be better than trying to jump down into the boat as it's bouncing around against that old concrete wall and railing!
  15. Go with the iTroll, you get main and kicker throttle control so if it's rough and you need to run main -ya got it with fingertip control too. Plus it's got 'hunt mode'. Great unit!
  16. I'm trying to find out what potential issues could be expected by combining Smart Troll transducer imagery displayed on a Fire Tablet with a Garmin PanOptix transducer displaying imagery on a GPSMap 943 xsv . While I'm at it I'm also wondering if anybody has combined an AirMar TM260 (same as an Airmar B260 thru hull) with a PanOptix system and or a Smart troll system? At the present time I have a Lowrance HDS gen 3 with structure scan transducer running simultaneously with the Garmin GPS Map and the PanOptix PS30 transducer with no interference that I am aware of. That system is in my outboard Crestliner at the present time. There is no 'temp/speed at depth' monitoring setup on that boat. I designed and built the Lowrance HDS /Garmin PanOptix dual sonar system to be able to be transferred between my outboard Crestliner and my larger HardTop Crestliner. The bigger HardTop Crestliner has a Fishawk which I am considering moving to the outboard boat and replacing it with a Smart Troll 4 probe system. The primary reason to be considering all these variables simultaneously is limitations and considerations with respect to Transom real estate space to place all this crap. Hank Searles at L&M has built the brackets that enable the PanOptix transducer to be shifted easily between boats and a fair amount of thought had to be put into accommodating the very large PS30 transducer on the outboard Crestliner. Now as we are preparing to fit the larger Crestliner with the other bracket for the PanOptix I am trying to think ahead as to what else might need to be on that precious piece of transom and what effect that device might have on the other systems in operation. Thanks!
  17. PM with offer. pickup in Olcott or Sodus
  18. Good suggestion! I will check that out. Thanks
  19. I will put another new set of batteries in the remote. it's ironic that the issue occurred after I replaced the 1 year old batteries in the controller. After I re-paired the controller with the head with no positive result, my first thought was 'I wonder if one of those new batteries is no good". I do not have the foot pedal for the unit because I figured it was redundant with the controller- now I wish I had gotten one.
  20. 1 year old 110 thrust Terrova saltwater model. Hadn't been out since early January. Put new batteries in controller this morning (1 year old) started a drift and pfft keep losing bowmount control. Shut all off and re-paired the bowmount with controller. Situation remained the same all morning. things would be ok and then I'd look down at controller and motor would not be spinning. I would ++++ up to speed , turn on and be able to control boat. Situation might last 5 or 10 minutes and then repeat. I was always able to turn the motor but had constant problems losing the motor from being engaged. always happened if I tried to ramp up motor to above 8 pretty quickly. " Motor not found" came up sometimes but not others. Yes: batteries are oriented correctly. Ideas, thoughts?
  21. Ended up having Hank at L&M make a set of transom plates that he drilled and tapped to which the S30 transducer (very large and rectangular) bracket can be fastened. Then I ordered a 2nd bracket for the other vessel. Now all that is required to move the transducer is to pull the 2 pins holding the transducer in the bracket and move it to the bracket on the other vessel
