  1. still trying to get my family out.way to go.the pop up thunderstorms kept us off sunday
  2. wondering what brand and size reels you guys are using.do you switch line in summer or just take your flo-leaders off.also what # test line,is 20# ok or should I jump to 30#.
  3. yea Jeff, wondering what you have.I'm looking for something 8'6" in a med-heavy and hopefully reels with counters, although its not imparitive.
  4. interested in 3 downrigger rods and reels.
  5. hey bub.I work with Jarrod L and heard a lot about ya.Hope your windshield turned out ok.I fish out of Hughes just west of you.I actually tried calling you on the radio a few weeks ago but maybe you weren't out fishin, although from what I hear thats hard to believe you weren't out there. If you ever want to come out with us we are all the time looking for an extra or two.Good to here from you.You can pm me if you want.
  6. WISHING ALL YOU DADS OUT THERE A HAPPY FATHERS DAY.WISH I COULD BE OUT THERE FISHING,BUT MY SON GRADUATES TODAY.
  7. cool, another bowhunter.we've been fishing just west of Sodus and its been pretty slim pickins,at least for us.there are a couple places to launch on the bay,the public (free is good) launch on Rt. 14 or Arneys, also on Rt.14.I would suggest starting in 70fow and head north trying depths anywhere from just below the surface down to 75' or even more.We marked a bunnch of fish below 75' down to 125'.Good luck
  8. your very welcome Stix.WE fished from 70fow out to 220fow.Marked small pods of fish every now and again but didn't even try for the ones over 80' deep.Only two in the boat so its hard to cover everything. We haven't seen too much for baitfish either, either there isn't any or they're out deeper yet.Good luck tomorrow, hope you can hook up with more quantity or maybe something bigger than a teenager.
  9. lines in by 6am,had the wire go off fairly quick in 129fow-96' of wire,lt. green pro-troll with green glow a-tom-mic fly, dipsy set at 2.5.that was the best fish of the day,a whopper of a 5# king.caught 3 other smaller than that, one more before the thunder and 2 after a short break.fished until 2:30.caught one more on the wire and the other two on a mullato and a nbk.
  10. great job, especially with the fishing being a little tough at the moment.nice pics too
  11. had the lines in the water around 6:15am.started marking fish in 50fow out to 75fow with no takers.Found some nice hooks from 120 to165fow so spent a bunch of time there.2 1/2hrs later our first fish,a small king on a blk/silver green glow stacked 12' above a silver/plaid dodger down 70' over 125fow.nothing else until we started pulling our lines at 1:00 when another small king grabbed a nk purple thunder behind a purple glow pro-troll out 150' on the wire,2.5 set.so,not a great day but at least no skunk and had no problems pulling the wire dipsies for the first time.will hit-em hard again tomorrow.
  12. so the line actually gets wound in the same direction as it came off the store bought spool?I might just have a youngster to do that-my good ole son at a spry 17 yrs.
  13. spooled our accudepth plus' with the 30#,7 strand mason wire via the tennis ball in vise method, which worked great by the way but then got thinking about spooling it backwards after the fact.never gave it a thought.should that be spooled the opposite direction of the way it came off the spool?if so,is there an easy way to solve this problem?UH-OH
  14. Hi everyone, sorry I didn"t introduce myself earlier.Usually fish with dad out of Hughes marina Havn"t decided on a boat name yet.WE have an older starcraft islander-19'. Thanks for all the help with getting a couple wire rigs put together.
  15. got ya,I saw $26 price tag and was hoping something else would work ok. thanks again gambler.
  16. just got back from bass pro with two new heartlands and the accudepth plus 47"s,along with 2 spools of mason 7 strand 30# wire.Is there a cheaper way to go other than sampos and what size swivel to hook the wire to? also, what is the difference between the mason and malin?Would appreciate your input.
  17. i saw the releases on Maniacs set-up to prevent line creepage. What is that all about?
  18. thanks gambler, that sounds like a plan.i've seen the pictures on how to tie the wire to the swivel, but how are you guys hooking the mono to the snap end?
  19. from what i read it sounds like wire is easier to learn with.but it also sounds like more fish are caught with copper,is this true?
  20. working on getting set up to run wire or copper.which way do i go george?
  21. we have also been fishing out of hughes on w/ends mostly.caught 3 kings last weekend, all between 70 and 100 fow.all 55 ft down
  22. thanks for the input much appreciated.fishing out of hughes marina, pultneyville.so the coated wire is actually the downrigger cable, meaning i'll have to respool the downrigger?
  23. heard good things about DR.Looks like they're a little complicated to set up.In other words,if you want to remove it and are you guys talking about coated downrigger wire?Ours is not coated
