Seems like the lake is producing a large # of large lakers this year, what does everyone think the upswing is from? We have seen a few 30 lb fish last few years are 40's or larger in the near future?

Lowrance HDS-7 Marks Bottom and Bait balls but no fish hooks

go into the fishing mode and change it to deep water mode. Any time I am in over 60 feet of water this is the best picture. Also make sure your fish alarms are off and surface noise is low. and bump up the gain to 95% plus. I get a great picture with these guidelines. -

later in summer when the thermocline sets up go off the pump house in 80 foot of water and look on your graph for fish suspended 20-40 down over 80 to 100. most of those marks are suspended smallies and big. drop a sawbelly down and put rod in rod holder and have a beer. When rod doubles over reel in 4-5 lb smallies. Very consistent and over looked way to catch giant smallies. I also did very well in 8-15 ft of water on east side of lake sand and gravel flats with cray fish drifting around the flats. -

HAVE YOU EVER USED THE BUTTERFLY JIGS IN THE FINGER LAKES, THEY SEEM A LITTLE HEAVY AT ALMOST 2 OZ'S. DOES ANYONE MAKE A BUTTERFLY IN THE 1-1.5 OZ RANGE? -
I am getting alot of noise on my lowrance from my minn kota. I have two batteries I run the lowrance and minn kota to the same battery so I dont run down the cranking battery. Thoughts on how to fix. Are there any solutions other than rewiring to the main starting battery?

Been jigging starting to have some success but still need to dial it in. I drop to bottom, jig a few times and reel to surface. Is this the best method or should I be doing something else? Looking for some more pointers.

1st attempt at jigging Lakers
Striperhound replied to Fish Junkie's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
so you are basically jigging a few times and then slowly reeling all the way up to the surface, drop and do it over again. I was trying to keep it with in 10-15 feet of the bottishom where I was seeing I have a lowrance HDS 5, I had the sensitivity way up so I could see my line and jig you would see fish come up look and go back down. So the fish will follow up 50-80 feet before striking? The reel up should it be slow and steady or fast? Thanks guys for all the info, I am fishing Lake George -
1st attempt at jigging Lakers

What is the jigging stoke. I was out today and would jig a few times slow lifts let fall then reel up 10 feet, drop and start over. Had many short strikes and could not hook up soft tip on the pole I was using. Also I was using the new zoom super fluke paddle tails at 5 inches they seemed a little long not helping with the short strikes. Is everyone using the 3" soft plastics? Also what depth works best I was mainly fishing 115-135 because the picture was good in those depths. Any help would be great as I learn jigging for LT
