Try to attend at least your local meeting. DEC uses these meetings as one barometer of the Lake Ontario fishery interest.

Has the DEC ever considered putting at least one of the meetings on a weekend to encourage out of state participation?

2 seasons ago i bought new Cannon Digi troll with the bottom Trac feature. I was just gonna buy the stx, but their was no speed control and they'd snap at the top of the water. Didn't like that one bit and bought the digi's. Many different speeds and I can track bottom without touching a thing. Guys that have fished with me LOVE that feature.

What did you tie in for the tracking feature?  Did you tie into a hummingbird fish finder or do you have their separate transducer?   I'm running a lowrance at the moment so I can't tie into that unfortunately.

Didn't know that about the top water. Interesting

That is the primary reason I bought them.  Plus the fact that I can reduce the down speed.  I didn't like the idea of sending flasher rigs down @ 250fps.  With the Digitroll I can reduce to half or whatever I want.  This year I want to start playing with the bottom track and and jigging feature.

you don't need to fish temp this time of year.   Fish where your gear will let you fish.  there are fish on the beach and out to 100 + fish still not wanting to leave temp (wherever it is).

Cannon 2011 Mag 5 HS quit.

I recently had a problem with a cannon 2011 mag 5 HS, I noticed that it was coming up slower than normal, eventually it stopped. Reset circuit breaker on rigger, and checked voltage. Ended up hand retrieving up. I opened up rigger and noticed a burned spot on control board, so I replaced it, resealed and returned to service, only to have the unit retrieving slow again. After about three or four operations(up & down), the unit quit again. I replaced this one with the new Cannon mag 5 ST which operates fine on the same plug. Any suggestions on how to repair my Cannon 2011 mag 5 HS?

since there isn't a lot to them and the gears aren't binding I'm gonna guess the motor is your issue.

I'm with you bassinbob, its much less likely people will post a report when they have a bad day fishing (if there is one) I fished out of sandy pond 100 to 140 feet of water on Sunday afternoon after the wind died down. Marked alot of fish mostly 80-100 feet down, bunches of them. However getting them to bite was another thing, ran dipseys,ff and spoon.200 to 300. Came up empty still trying to figure it out. Maybe the wind had them mixed up or I'm just too much a newbie.

I've always had a hard time as soon as they are forced out of temperature.  Im guessing the heavy west winds did that.

Fat Trout, yes that was on my mind as well.  This spot seem to be getting worse and sooner or later it is going to get me. I currently only fish on the fingers therefore I have been able to get away with it.  I am hoping to try the big lake for the first time sometime next week or the week after and that is why I need to fix it now.  I also was thinking about fixing it the way I said and then flipping the line so the 300 spot was further inside if that makes sense.

flip it.  A real pain in the butt, but a  good idea.

Fishinlslife, not sure.  I have never really checked to see if the entire into the water is different.  If I am using the same holders, location on the boat and rod setup I just assumed it was not a variable.  Something I will look at next time I am out. Thank you.

Thank you pjprod, yes I am aware that slide diver can be upgraded to the heavy weight to make them run deeper.  This is why I checked the weights of the two divers.  With them being the same I just don't understand why they don't work the same.

Yes, dipsey are a fixed leader length and slide diver are adjustable.  I have had days when fish would not touch a lure behind a dipsy with a 5 or 6 foot leader to the spoon/flasher fly and then increased that length to 8, 10 or 12 feet and it is a totally different dipsy setup.  Game on.  The bad thing now is that I have to hand line in every fish.  This is the advantage of the slide diver and the reason why I was asking the question.

As an engineer I can tell you its an angle thing based on design.  Exactly where it pulls from when set relative to everything else results in a shallower dive angle.     There could be a diameter difference too buy honestly I never measured them side by side.

How to fix a bad kink in my wire dipsy rod?

I have noticed that approximately 300 feet or so into my 1000 foot spool of wire I have a bad spot.  I would like to cut out the bad spot and re-terminate the two pieces of wire back together.  Any suggestion how to do this?  I was thinking about using the wire knot with a #10 spro swivel in between the two pieces? Opinions?? Thank you for your time.

Problem is that joint will be right in the main area of use for when you set it and the fish takes off.  If it were me I'd be more likely to toss the 300 and go with 700 or if nervous add some powerpro or even mono backing or just replace the whole thing.   I've never had a fish take me to 700 so I'd probably just roll with the 700 until I  had to cut more off, then replace

Today at big O. Guy is backing in a 21 ft boat. Not going to mention color etc. 1/2 way in. He hits the brakes. I think- he thought he was in the water. Boat slides off trailer and slams on the motor. People yell stop stop. So he realizes the boats half off the trailer sitting on the motor. Throws it in reverse and grinds the motor into the bottom! Oh my GOD! Pulls boat out to dock end. Starts the motor, it burns up in about 3 minutes. Unreal. Second time I've seen this happen.
You just have to see it to be leave it.

    Wow.

While this isn't manners it does clog up a ramp and is entertaining to share.

I was with a buddy on round valley reservoir in NJ when 2 younger guys launched a 16ft boat with usual vinyl covered wood floor & pedestal seats.  I happened to be standing there while my buddy was parking the truck for our boat.  I look over and caught a glimpse in this guys boat of water just poking into the bottom of a pedestal seat mount that didn't have a seat in it.  Yelled at the one guy to put the bilge on and the other guy (who was still there) to back the trailer back in immediately.  He said why and just yelled shut up and do it your sinking.  Managed to get it back on the trailer enough to stop it from sinking  lol.

And the problem was.....new to them boat, first launch and they put the boat plug in the live well intake instead of the drain hole.

Coincidentally my father in law  has two giant stick on letters on his transom next to his livewell intake on his Lund  NO.   I laughed to myself when I first saw it....didn't need to ask why it was there.

  11. i put time and effort into practicing and setting up my trailer, and procedure to put in / pull out lightning fast by myself or with someone.  That and parking so you don't get blocked and you especially don't block anyone.  If busy, I do my little things away from the dock.  How is all that so hard for people.  Truthfully I avoid busy launches even if I'm quick.

Temp was at 60' over 350' today.

Way out can be like that but thats good.   last weekend in Mexico it was @ 70' all the way in to nearly 70'.   It was a real challenge to find temp in July last year in my area.

  13. mexico fishing report

No Mexico pt reports to speak of.  Here's one.    Sunday, boated 2 kings 15 & 20lb  and dropped 2  fishing solo.   I was fishing just outside of the brown trout guys.  Temp was at 70ft or so.   That's as shallow as I've seen cold water in Mexico bay this time of year in a while.  Last year I felt like I had to run endless cable to get to temp.  Fleas were bad based on my wire being out 30 min.  NP on my riggers with flea flicker line.  I'm gonna cry when I run out of that.   I was west of the launch but I thought about going North toward the dunes.  I'm not sure what's up there at the moment.

I've seen it posted elsewhere, but the state launch is open now.

  14. Yeah, I want the x4d for the depth.   They seem to sell both upgrade kits with the needed probe.   ie 840 to x4 or 840/x4 to x4D.  Thats what had me thinking an 840 upgrade to x4 needs a new probe too.   Check into that before you get an x4 display and then need a probe.  That would be a bummer.   the only constant seems to be the transducer.  That seems to work equally for all, as best I can tell.

  15. to go from the 840 I think you would need both the display and the x4 probe....not just the display.  I have wanted to upgrade from the x4 to x4d but didn't want to eat the upgrade cost and still have the old equipment.  They swap out the display and probe apparently.   If you would be interested in the display and probe let me know.  My probe and display are 2 yrs old
