Just a very nice day with very lousy fishing.

There were about six boats out going towards Webster and back to I-bay. Only one guy caught a nice Coho and it was not me.

One of the fishermen went into I-bay and caught a boat which he towed into Mayer's Marina.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

  2. Yes it sucks. But being in debt to the tune of 9 billion dollars sucks even more.

In my house when money is tight, the luxuries like dining out and fishing, yes fishing, are scaled back first, the same goes for NY state.

It hurts to close some parks, but it is not wrong given the circumstances.

Now if the Governor could save some serious money in other places AND help us to throw out most, if not all incumbents,I would be satisfied.

  3. I inherited a Victrola box with a Seth Green set up,but I use my Penn Sabre with a Penn Senator 113 mostly when I try to use a Seth Green. It is hard work and sometimes it feels like professional fishing and not fishing for fun.

  4. Hey Richard, just for a piece of mind, your boat came matched with that trailer, so the tire/wheel package should be the proper match, I'd just replace your tires with what has worked, move some of the weight to the truck, and be done with it.

When are you heading west??? :)8):yes:

The only problem in that statement is that there are people involved.

It happens all the time that dealers will sell you ill fitting set ups because their profit goes up.

  5. If you want good info and tires that are cheaper than anywhere else go to:

    http://www.kmtparts.com

With that weight, I would go with a "D" load range which is 8 ply.

Give them a call and they will advise you on the tires that you need.

    They send them by UPS.

I bought my tires from them and it cost about half the price of anywhere else.

You do have to mount them yourself

  6. Make sure that you get a VHF that you can hook up to your GPS and that allows you to get an emergency MMSI number. There should be a button on the radio that will broadcasts a MAYDAY , your GPS position and your MMSI the moment you push that button. This will inform the coast guard where you are and who you are. They will be able to contact your family with the info they get from your MMSI number.

  7. good point rolmops and 15,000 die each year in road accidents we should ban all cars, trucks and probly trains too as many die in them to and dont forget the airplanes my goodness think of all the lives we could save....Ill bet 200 or so cops die each year on duty so we should ban and disolve all police forces, and dont forget the poor firemen who died in 9/11 and after, approxamatly 150,000 people die each year in hospitals due to improper treatment close em all again you have to be one of the smartest people ive ever responded to,,,ill bet you alone with your thinking could save over 500,000 lives in one year alone..............Ill bet Nobama might have a czar job for you ....I cant belive how many missinformed people dont want these things of beauty ,,,,,,Ps 1800 kids die each year in bycyle accadents get rid of them now, and over 200 die each year on sidewalks have em all removed for general safty, ill bet bathtub falls wipe out another 100 or so ,thats it no more bathes for the great citizens of this country man these are just a few ideas i think all steps could be included on your list... im makin a sign now "ROLMOPS FOR PRESIDENT"" OPPS AND ALL THOSE SILLY BOATS OUT THERE GOTTA TAKE THEIR TOLL on many sink em all .....boy someday im gonna be real smart and maybe get rid of mt common sence desease..........THANKS RAY K.

Thank you for your thoughtful reaction, even though I am not sure it has anything to do with what I was talking about. :inlove:

Good politicians always allow their opponents a few good tirades and when the opponents are tired and bored of screaming, the politicians do what they wanted to do all along....

That is why it is a good idea to engage in possible compromise. It forces the politicians to at least partly retreat.

The wind mills that will be built off Cape Cod should be a writing on the wall and damage control instead of useless screaming might be a good way to go

  8. These past few weeks we have had some pretty serious events having to do with energy.

First there was the mining disaster with all these dead miners and now the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico with yet even more victims.

Thinking about these terrible events, it occurred to me that ,maybe our protests against the wind power generators and our worries about property values and fishing limitations are really quite silly relative to the terrible things that happened these past few weeks and very probably will happen again.

Might it be a good idea to try and work together with the wind people and see if we can minimize potential damage and yet at the same try and get the maximum amount of clean energy that our country needs so badly.

Saying "NO" is not very productive. How about making sure there will be no off limits waters and having all the power cables in coaxial liners thereby severely limiting electromagnetic fields?

Over 40 people just died while providing us with energy. That certainly is something to make us all stop and think.

  9. Most boats produced these days are ready for use in salt water.I/Os and salt water do not like each other at all.The only way to use an I/O in salt water is by adding a heat exchanger preferably in the hull so the salt does not get in the engine cooling ducts.

Outboards are much more salt tolerant and can be very easily cleaned.

Most companies will therefore sell boats with outboards.

  10. I am not sure that adding the third rod will greatly improve my success. As a single boater,I have a hard time to keep 2 rods in the water and steering the boat at the same time.

In order to set up a program I use a trick I learned tuna and blue fish fishing.I use an umbrella rig on a wire line. This gives me ten lures in the water with only one ,which looks wounded, with a treble hook business end.

This enables the single fisherman to have a "complete program" and stay within the current laws.

I like to think that I catch more fish that way.

Just google "umbrella rig" to see what I mean.

  11. The rule of fist for an outboard when run at WOT (wide open throttle) is 10% of the horse power rating per hour.So one 200 HP engine will burn 20 gallon per hour at WOT. 2 200s will burn 40 gallons per hour, but running a second outboard will only give you an additional 30% push.

My guess is that your I/O does a lot better than that.

You may want to look into buying a 10 hp kicker with your I/O

  12. I launched at Mayer's Marina on the Webster side of the outlet just last Saturday with my 19 footer. His ramp is a bit steeper and if you get stuck he has the gear to lift up the trailer from behind.(he sees it as his responsibility to get your trailer in and out without damage).

I guess that the trick is rolling down fast and then braking hard so the boat continues by itself off the trailer.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

The morning started out very nice with light winds and light rain.Once we hit the Genny plume going west in front of the river, the screen lit up with lots of bait and lots of big fish between 8 and 20 fow.We threw stick baits at them from the planers and dream weavers from the down riggers. We started out with greens but later we changed over to reds. The red worked a bit better and in quick succession we had three hits.First a big fat snagged gobi and a bit later a nice Coho. The one that got away felt like another Coho.

Today there were no diving birds and most of the bait was fairly deep down.

Around 11.00 the wind picked up so we decided to go back to Ibay and got ourselves a good soaking from the waves coming in sideways.

Having the new X4 speed and temperature probe is a mixed blessing. On the one hand it is a kick to have all that extra information, but at the same time I find myself worrying all the time about $250 hanging from a thin piece of wire...I'll have to get used to it
