  1. I love rubber bands, but I never knew which size to pick.Usually it is whatever the mail man uses to bundle my letters.I will go and buy the #16 size.

Is the #16 also used at the down rigger?

As for lake pollution,I find that usually the broken band stays attached to the fishing line and can be put in your on board garbage bag.

  2. I use 20 colors on a daiwa accudepth 57.I do this because I do a lot of lake trout fishing in Keuka and Owasco Lake, while trolling live bait (hook setup as if it is a spoon)This can be done at very low speeds (1.3-1.5) and with 12 colors I can go down to 90 feet,14 colors give over a hundred.

Often when I see fish at 200 feet down I just cut the engine and allow the bait to flutter down.It gets them every time.

  3. o.k.....then it sounds like to me that they don't have the experience or knowledge to govern the charlotte peir let alone the great crountry we call america.

You seem to forget that Ms Obama is not an elected representative of any sort and as such she does not have authority to govern anything, not even the Pier.

  4. nothing...the topic evidently took a turn.can i ask you why child obesity is the first lady's pet project yet they don't seem to care about the taxpayers dollars being spent on everything from ice cream to soda pop.i'm not trying to point a finger that lower income people are more at risk or the cause but since 1 in 6 receives an entitlement that could truly effect the impact i am concerned about the genuine interests and concerns of our legislators.

    Ah,yet another change of subject.

Our own first lady is part of a class of people that does not really know how many of us have to get by and how many of us still lack the will or ability to pull ourselves up by the bootstraps. So in her own suburban way she tries too help.

At the same time she wisely chose a non-confrontational cause.

  5. I have a Penn Sabre wireline rod with carboloid guides and 2 tip guides one a roller and the other a regular one.

The roller is great for deep sea cod fishing (line at 90 to sometimes 60 degrees angle) while the other is used for everything else.

Replacing the tip is simply a matter of heating up the metal (cigarette lighter) taking it off and putting some glue on the other tip and sliding it in place.

It is easy and gives you both choices.

  6. If you go to the Interstate Battery store in Henrietta/Rochester,next to the Wallmart super center you will be able to buy "blemished" interstate batteries. These are new batteries with external blemishes which in no way interfere with their performance. Deep cycle, marine, cars, they've got them, all with the regular interstate warranty.

I bought some marine batteries there for $35 a piece. That is half the price of the garbage that you can buy at Wallmart and they last 4 times as long.

Before you go, give them a call to make sure that they have what you need in stock.

This is definitely worth a trip to Henrietta.

    The address is :391 Clay road,Rochester,NY 14623. Phone 585-359-3155

    good luck.

  7. That's what I have on my boat ( used to be justin's) I found that the ducer was getting thrown of by the contour of the boat. I lowered it about 1.5 inches from where he had it now it works great. I do get a little rooster tail off it though. Look for any lips or rivets any thing like that i front of it they distort the signal. Not sure why it only does it when your deep. Mine would cut out in anything from 10ft to 300ft. Hope this helps. I really like my hummer.

I had the same rooster tail problem with my 575.A lot of noise has been made about this and Humminbird has come up with a rubber piece that fits in the space between the transducer and the part that is attached to the boat. They provide these for free. All you have to do is call their service department and they will send it to you.

  8. Any of you guys get to voice opinions at “energy meetings†please make sure to ask about their decommissioning plans. (& funding for it) Life expectancy of turbines is only 20 yrs. This is what they’re stuck with on Big Hawaii Island. (built in 1989)

You can bring that a lot closer to our own Hudson Valley which was poisoned with PCBs to the point where there is a sharp increase in all sorts of cancer along the Hudson river.

General Electric came, poisoned the land and abandoned it, leaving the local population to deal with the disastrous results of their presence.

Most of our politicians are interested in re-election,not in our well being.

Make sure that our politicians know that we will vote them out of office if they touch the lake.

  9. I really can't understand how the politicians can allow a Spanish company (Iberdrola) to own power generation facilities in America . I have been told that National Grid's headquarters are in Great Britain . I would think power generation and delivery would come under national security and be looked after by homeland security. I guess the headlines I have been reading are true . The United States really is FOR SALE .

Why is that so amazing?? American companies own very many strategic assets in other countries. These companies are strong enough to change governments abroad.

It is only to expected that foreign companies do the same here.

The real question is not where the foreign company is based,it is who the real owners are. This may take you right back to American companies who figured out yet another way not to pay taxes.

  10. The story is a bit more complicated and it has a lot to do with Europe.

As longline mentioned, the males go to Europe and that is where the big trouble is.

When the male eels are about to enter the European rivers they are at a development stage where they are called Glass Eels. They are about 80 to a hundred mm long and extremely popular as a gourmet food.So popular in fact that they are almost fished into extinction before they get very far inland. As a result very few males ever make it back to the Sargasso Sea.Lots of girls there, but no boys to play with.

  11. Bill,I have not yet come to the point where a picture is viable. All I have so far is a drawing and a pile of materials.Hopefully I will put it all together in the next few weeks,at which point pictures will be posted.

  12. I have been looking for parts and bits to build a planer board tower and my problem was mostly with the right reel to attach to the tower.

A good person from East Rochester gave me his old Riviera manual downriggers and the reels are just ideal!

If you consider building your own planer board tower, you must definitely look into getting those old Riviera reels.

  13. My 575 had the same problem. After the transducer was replaced it got to be a lot better, but the dual and triple beam transducers are very touchy and even the slightest bit of turbulence throws them off.

  14. There is a nesting pair very close to Rochester.Their eerie is just south of Empire Boulevard just on the east side of Irondequoit Creek near Ibay.

They often cross Empire Boulevard with a fish in their claws.
