I'm pretty sure Stan is talking about freshwater fishing for rainbows and Browns in Shasta lake in California I could be wrong though..

Stan if your trying to reach depths that are 100-110ft down at rigger depth your probably going to want to run magnum size dipsy divers and keep them set from .5-1.5 and it'll take some wire to reach those depths still. Make sure you've got a good set of rods and holders aswell because your going to be putting some strain on them at those speeds. Good luck though I hope it works out!

I use the Mags have Bert's holders

I think Stan is referring to California....not sure whether fresh or saltwater environment.

Stan - Double check your swivel snap at the end of the wire if it is a split ring type replace it with HEAVY DUTY SOLID ring ball bearing swivel, One of the things that happens with the split ring type of swivel is the line or wire "nests" in the split section and with tension it cuts through the line or wire.

Check out the wire for a few yards to see if any fraying sections...sometimes helps to use magnifying glass (especially us old dudes)

Maybe use the "tie the wire" method of connecting it instead of crimping if you are doing that. If the wire is old or questionable try reversing the wire on the spool so that the back part becomes the front...I know it is a pain.... and easier to just put on new wire and go from scratch.

It's the wire that keeps braking, I ordered new wire this morning in hopes the wire was too old. Have had it on the reels a good 5 years.

Using Optimizer's lures seem to be getting out best fish between 3.8 to 4.2 mph at 100' to 110'

These taken Aug 2016 during what they called peak of the drought , They road is the old Hwy 99 that is now interstate 5, some 5 miles east of these pictures . This is the Sacramento arm of the lake which is 365 miles shore line when full

  4. We now have
    Optimizer Lures

    Trinidad Tackle

    'Bow Buster's

    L.Morrison Original Egg Wobbler

    Columbia River Walleye worm harnes

Original Squid plug that will be on the market soon

It's all on sale on-line as well in West Coast stores, it's crazy how fast we are growing, now have 6 employees , But I am having fun

  5. "Hey good deal Stan, we need more old salts like you one here!!Glad to hear a zip tie here and there did the job, maybe a little furnace cement in the cracks to seal er up, now you got good draft, to keep the fire burning under your azz!! Glad to hear your back in the swing of things!!! Congrats to your health and the drive to keep fishing, best therapy I found yet!! PAP?"

    You betcha.

Thanks, staying real busy in my old age, Started a tackle company and have bought out 4 old tackle companies in the last six months. Don't know what tomorrow will bring, but living for the minute

  6. Thanks Mark, I had a small leak in a artery that finally blow open in July 16, lost 7 units blood, they welded it shut , gave me  3 units four days later I felt like new again...

Then I went and acquired the Optimizer lure brand to bring it back on the market, heck of a trolling spoon.Don't know of a spoon on the market that can keep up with it at 6 mph and still working properly , Guys out west here love it for fast trolling, big river trolling as well as the Pacific searching for Kings & Coho

Take care old friend and keep a tight line ,

  7. I would think trolling speeds and water clarity has a lot to do with line size. Problem is what works on one lake will not always work on another.

by "YOUP 50 post   Wisconsin is really planting BT in Lake Michigan " I have no idea what Lake Michigan waters look like compared to Big O or Cresent lake Oregon I will almost bet all responses so far are all from Big O ?

Heck our local lake one can not see 2' down into the water, I sometimes will run 18 Lb to 20Lb test line, when I fish Oregon I drop way down to 8 Lb , If we are Ocean fishing no lighter then 35 Lb

Think I will just stay up here in the mountains,I have a clear field of fire. I for one am sick and tired of left wing politics , I am sure I would not pass the vetting I hate it when people ask me what I think about this or that they get that dumb look on their face when I tell them. Hey you guys keep plugging away on this thread , Please let me know what the out come is.

By the way went out fishing yesterday and Shasta Lake Rainbow love the Optimizer Lures ( friend Dave ) it was 33 degrees when we started fishing Sunday morning . Trolling off boards at 4.5 mph, The Optimizer is half the size of the Rainbow
