I have 4 of them I bought used about 12 years ago. $900 for all from someone that thought they were too complicated. Run well. Had one display go last year. I like the fact that I can progam the depth and let it run down while I am doing something else. They also have the timed up and down cycling within a set distance like 10 ft or so. use it sometimes but never really noticed a improvement in releases. Retrieve is auto stop but it is not a short stop that detects disconnect of cable from water, it is an actual count up of pulley rotation.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know you could program all of that on the digitrolls. Never used them before, not even on someone else's boat.

Thanks Les!

I use a 15hp 2 stroke kicker on my 19ft aluminum center console boat. I use a 3 gal tank on the deck at the back of the boat and I made a "box" to cover it and keep it out of the direct sunlight. I have never used more than roughly half that tank of gas in a single fishing trip. The kicker is quiet and uses much less fuel, and like many other have mentioned, I like the security of having a 2nd motor on my boat.
Forgot to mention that I had to add a pre-set throttle assembly, Evinrude part # 174741. Without it, my motor wouldn't hold its speed above idle. It would fall from 2.5 mph back down to idle speed. Now it works like a champ and stays at whatever speed I set it at. Its a 1992 Evinrude.

Thanks 580! I have some older Mag 10A's and they are slow but steady. I'm not a charter captain, so they get limited use every year. I hope they keep on working. I don't like the price of new riggers because its not my livelihood.

Thanks for the feedback guys! My email is [email protected] . A copy of the owners manual would be much appreciated.

Best of luck to you and your customers!
The only piece of equipment the Sea-IV needs is a wheelie bar to keep from doing a back flip when you throttle down

Just looking for honest opinions from anyone who has ever owned or used the older Digi-troll 2 riggers. Do they have auto-stop, how do they compare to the older Mag 10A riggers? How do they compare to the newer Digi-troll 4? Cannon doesn't have the owners manual listed on their web site so it would have to be a special request to have one made available, if that's still possible.

Do you have more pics of the pulleys, yellow knobs and line counter, handles, boom connection points, and swivel bases? Where are you located?

I use 18 in n steel leader at 80 lbs in case you get caught on bottom leader will snap and you save the probe. Main cable is 150 lbs
Thanks! I remember reading something about an 80lb leader for that reason. I just don't know where to get them.

Theres a cable that's about ten inches long that snaps between the probe and the ball. Your lure is run off the ball like your other riggers.
Thanks! Who sells them, or is it something you make yourself?

I saw something on the forum a while ago but I can't find it now. What are some techniques for attaching a rigger weight under the speed./temp probe? I use the standard Cannon releases.

I'd have to say that this is the most professional forum I've ever been a member of, thanks to the members and moderators!

A few weeks ago I saw a thread stating that the manual Penn riggers are produced again under a different name.
I think ther're under Troll Master. They only make manual riggers for now. It looks like someone bought the rights to Penn downriggers because thet appear to be 100% identical.

Short or long boom, must be in good working condition.

Thanks Dan!
This utility boat is my backup boat, but my primary boat is blocked by a dumpster until the end of April, possibly middle of May. So I am just trying to think outside the box and have a solid plan for using my utility boat with riggers.

Ok, thanks!

I am thinking about buying a used Sub Troll for my utility boat, but before I do, I want to make sure I can properly ground it. The instructions on the Sub Troll say to attach the black wire to the negative battery terminal AND the boat's ground system/water. That's easy enough on a boat with a charging system, but I don't think it was intended for a boat without a grounding system.
Thanks for the feedback. I thought about just letting a groud wire contact the water behind the transom, using a keeper of sorts to make sure it doesn't contact the boat. But then there are the unknowns and what ifs...

I have one.
How does $50 sound?
$50 sounds good to me as long as its in good working order. For what they are selling for new on ebay I might as well buy a new one from Troll Master. PM me your address and I'll get a money order in the mail. Is it $50 shipped?
I'm looking for one more Penn manual rigger now too, in case you know of one for sale. Thanks!

That's a nice sight! We don't have many turkey around my neck of the woods though.

How do you ground an electronic device to water on a utility boat that uses a tiller steer motor that is not connected to the battery? One of my devices needs to be grounded to the battery negative terminal AND to water, so how can I accomplish that requirement? Thanks in advance!
