  1. Hey guys, looking to see if anyone has any input. I fish spring browns a few times and was looking to pick up a few inexpensive rods. Most of my trolling rods are geared towards walleye fishing and were a bit on the heavy side for the browns. Looking at the 8' Med Light rods. Anyone ever use these that can comment on the action.
  2. I was fishing the Canadian side near Port Mailtland last weekend and the fleas were unreal. Had to clear your line every 20 minutes or so or else your eyes would plug up, not exactly ideal fishing for spunky eyes. Closer to Buffalo however I have never had a problem.
  3. Gotcha, I was unaware of the 18'' size limit. Hopefully that will bode well for the future.
  4. Just a question, not trying to stir the pot... Why did you choose to keep the big breeder stock instead of the 17-19 inch table fare? Nice fish to by the way...

  6. Given the crappy week and the cold lake temps due to the east wind, is the shoreline bite still going in the west end? I'm new to Ontario. Thanks...
  7. Hey Guys, I'm new to the shoreline bite. Made it out the past two weekends and did well in the mornings. I would like to try and get up there afterwork here and there. I can be on the lake by 4:30 or so. How is the evening bite along the shoreline? We have been in 8-15 fow. Would I be able to use the same program in the evening to put some fish in the boat. Thanks for the info. I have been learning a bunch on the forum. Picked up some new sticks and ready to get back out there. Heres a nice healthy laker we took to end the day Saturday...

  9. Date(s): 4/30 Time on Water: 6:00-12:00 Weather/Temp: Sunny 40's Wind Speed/Direction: Light NW Waves: Calm Surface Temp: 46-48 =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 25ish Total Boated: 17 Species Breakdown: Browns, Coho, Lake Trout, Atlantic Hot Lure: Sticks Trolling Speed: 2.2-2.5 Boat Depth: 8-12 feet Lure Depth: 6-8 feet Despite a gut feeling that things may be to muddy I made my second trip up to Lake O with my Dad, it was his first trip for spring fishing up there. Yes it was muddy, very muddy. We looked for some color breaks and found one where a creek entered that was dumping in some clearer water. It almost seemed to cut a channel of water that was fishable. We pounded that area and were rewarded with many hits and some nice fish. We even took fish in the mud. Bright sticks were key, nothing on naturals. Took some nice fish with one brown over 10. The Atlantic was a little guy at 18 inches. I think we got a little spoiled for this being a new brand of fishing to us. Lost something huge, possibly a king that busted off. It was flying out of the water as it peeled line off.
  10. I'm new to fishing lake Ontario, last Sunday was my first ever attempt at trolling for browns. Was planning on hitting it tomorrow as the waters for plan A currently look like a Tim Hortons double double. No crappies or perch tomorrow. Will I be able to find some fishable water? Thnaks for any help, I'd like to avoid the hour drive if possible.

  12. How will the launches be in Niagara/Orleans County this weekend with the LOC Derby. Looking to give it another go for browns after my first trip ever up there last weekend. I'm an early bird, boat will be in when its still dark out. Thanks...

  14. How long does the shoreline bite go? I know a lot depends on the weather so at what temp can you still catch them in skinny water, less than 20feet? I'm new to this and just made my first trip Easter Sunday morning. Had fun so the Erie perch might have to wait a few weeks.
  15. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Walleye Warrior ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 4/24 Time on Water: 6-9 Weather/Temp: 40's Overcast Wind Speed/Direction: Light and Variable Waves: Calm Surface Temp: 41-45 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: Browns Hot Lure: Raps Trolling Speed: 2.1-2.6 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 7-20 ft. Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Made my first ever trip for spring shoreline trolling on Lake Ontario. I fish mainly Lake Erie for eyes and perch. I had this entire week off from work with high hopes of getting out a few times. Weather did not cooperate all week so I made the drive up this morning. Boat in at 5:30 lines in at six. First hit at 6:10, WOW. Had six fish on total and landed three in three hours of fishing. Not bad for my first attempt. Water seemed pretty dirty, not the magical "Pea Soup" everybody mentions. All in all a nice morning. Fished two F9 Raps, one black silver and the other firetiger. Fish were on the small side, but nice and healthy. All my trolling rods have braid on them for eyes, could this cause the other fish to come unbuttoned with no stretch? I was in a red tiller, probably saw a few of you guys out there. Would have liked to fish a little longer but had to get home for Easter brunch.
  16. Anybody fish Olcott or Wilson lately? I'm a newbie but have been reading on the forum. Seems like things have been good just about eveywhere but those ports are closest to me. Never fished Lake O. I'm a diehard eye and perch guy on Erie. I only have a 16ft tiller and I am thinking about tomorrow morning early. I was off all week and the weather really blew, literally. Thanks for any help.
  17. Bloodshot, Tip downs look awesome. How much weight can they support before they tip. Looking for something for lake erie, never fished tip downs but know guys that do real well with them.
  18. The big fish was about five pounds, the rest in the 19-20 inch range which makes for great table fare. Fished 4 oz. inlines on braid back about 80-90 feet just about bouncing off the bottom with harnesses. I think I'll stay here in the Buffalo area until things get hot again.
  19. Tried outside and could not get anything going, fished 75-110 fow for three hours without a hit trolling harnesses and spoons. So I went back to what I do best, fishing bottom on structure. Found bait and some fish on the bottom in 45-57 fow. Got out the heavy stuff and things worked out. Took five nice eaters in a little over an hour. Saved what could have been a very dissappointing day after an hour drive.
  20. Thinking about giving it a shot tomorrow. Have not fished out of the Buffalo area yet this year and may take a ride to check things out. Weather pending. Any info would be appreciated. I typically have good luck out of Dunkirk well west. Have never launched at Barcelona. PM me if you want.
