  1. Pop tarts or whatever else is in the pantry
  2. Fished 1030 - 130. Went 10-13 which included a double and a triple. Only fishing three rods solo so bite was decent. A good breeze started blowing out of northeast and called it a day. 6-10 fow. Hot steel and perch colored f9s were best. Two went over 10 lbs with a few 8-9 as well. Nice color cold water yet.
  3. Thanks for the info guys. Saves me a long ride for tough conditions. A good NW or N wind would be nice for a day. Can't wait to get out. Off all next week so hopefully conditions will change.
  4. If anybody gets a look at the lake near olcott today can you please give a quick post on water color. Want to make the trip up tomorrow morning but might chase steelhead if the water is clear.
  5. What kind of action on the rods and where are you located? Any pics?
  6. Anybody ever try trolling kwikfish behind down riggers for lakers? Thought it might work at slow speeds.
  7. That is one sick boat. To bad I will never be able to afford anything like that.
  8. Last year I took a couple old cannon manuals and fixed the up with clamps for the back of my 16 goot tinner. They produced some fish but not as many as sticks. 70 to 90 foot leads with stingers standards run at 2.1-2.3 . Drop the ball down 2-4 feet. They did take some of my better fish though.
  9. Went out to the bar. Nice day to be out. Not much happening, one laker and only saw two other anglers hooked up out of about 15 boats. Fished a few lower drifts in the river and picked up four browns, three more lakers, and a steelhead. Big emeralds took all the fish.
  10. Gill-T any tips? Never fished the bar. Big minnows and kwikies I hear. I'll be out in a 16 ft tiller. Thats why things are very weather dependent.
  11. Thinking about hitting the bar if the winds are light this weekend. Anybody Know what the ice situation is? Are the launches at the fort open? Any info would be appreciated.
  12. Do a google search on the reefs jig bite or check the Ohio game fishing forum. Lots of info.
  13. Any suggestion for browns? Golden walleye looks good, root beer/tangerine, shad. Anyone have success on browns with these?
  14. I love the rule with fishing solo most of the time. Nothing like a triple on browns or walleyes to get your heart pumping. Hope it's put on the books.
  15. Looking for a few spoons, half dozen or so. Stingers or dwss for browns. Clowns, nbk, purples, greens, dwb. All the spoon lots are usually pretty big on here. Just looking for a few to add to my small collection. Only fish the big o a few times a year and don't have much money to dump into tackle. Pm me if you have a few you're willing to part with. Thanks.
  16. I started fishing in the spring a few years ago. Last summer I decided to try for browns in the summer for the first time seeing the freezer was well stocked with perch and walleye. I only have a 16 ft tinner so i picked a couple nice days to head up. I do not have a probe so I looked for the thermocline on my graph, this was in August. Typically it was in and around 65 ft. I then concentrated on 60-75 fow. Pay close attention to the bait. Browns are pigs so whenever I found bait balls on the bottom I got bit. Never crushed them, caught 6 or so each time but still had fun. Divers out fished the downriggers 3-1 for me.
  17. Thanks. That's was my understanding but I wanted to be sure.
  18. After looking at the regs, I understand a limit on lake o is three fish in combination. Are lakers included in this three fish limit or can you keep two in addition to your three fish. Never kept any lakers but sometimes fish for them in the spring after browns.
  19. I have a few magda's paired up with ugly sticks. They make a nice inexpensive combo. I primarily fish Lake Erie for walleye but fish ontario in the spring for trout and salmon and thy have handled well.
  20. Its really weather related. Last year with the exceptionally warm spring we were fishing in mid March. I fish the Wilson to Point Breeze waters. Look for fishing to start up once the lake gets into the 40's. Look for colored water, clear water in shallow makes for tough conditions and for me usually means sliding out for lakers.
  21. Just started fishing spring browns a couple years ago in the 16 ft tinner. Just about any stick bait will work. Natural patterns work in most conditions except if your in really dirty water brights have their days. A spoon or two in the mix is a good idea. I have a couple clamp on downriggers and spoons did not catch as many fish as sticks but did take some of the bigger fish.
  22. Looking to replace some trebles with siwash hooks on spoons like standard stingers, DW SS, NK 28. What size siwash should I be looking at 1/0? I'm not really sure to be honest with you. Thanks.
  23. Lookin for Kwikfish, K7-K11 sizes for lower niagara and niagara bar.
  24. Anybody know if the river is fishable after yesterdays wind on Lake Erie. I had been planning to fish it tomorrow but not sure about maikng the drive now. I heard visability was about two feet on the river this morning. Would that be fishable or a crapshoot?
