  1. Bring your kids and cameras!  The GCBA is proud to announce the stocking of 82,500 juvenile Chinook Salmon and 10,000 steelhead trout into their fish pens.

This is a great experience for kids to learn about our fishery and to meet our dedicated professional fishermen.  Charter captains will be there to answer questions about fishing and our fishery.  You could even book a trip!

The fish tank truck arrives at Shumway Marina in Rochester at noon on Friday 4/15/16 to unload the fish into their pens.

You can even sign up to volunteer to feed the fish.  The waters east and west of the Port Of Rochester offer insane fishing.  These pens are a major reason why.

Come on out, talk to the pros, sign up to volunteer, teach the kids!

  2. The Genesee Charter Boat Association does it again!!!!   Please help me with names.  These guys worked hard and you'll see the sun shining down on those pens.  There will 82,500 Chinook Salmon and 10,000 Steelhead being reared in those pens.

Please volunteer to help take care of these fish.

FYI- the fish are coming Friday 4/15/16 at noon at Shumway Marina in Rochester NY.  Bring your kids, cameras but NOT your fishing poles.

This is a valuable lesson for students and I have lesson plans to go along with this.  Kids love feeding fish and learning about them.  Contact me or the club for more information.

  3. I just talked to Pat.  This weekend 4/16/16 and 4/17/16 is their big show.  Sales reps from Bayrat (get your sticks), Quantum, Zebco, Shimano, Gloomis, Quality Fly Fishing and a great guy and fisherman, Kyle Kuba will be there.  I know there are always great deals there.

You can call Pat at 585 265 0416 or reach him on facebook.  Tell him you saw this on LOU.

There will be a book signing on Saturday by Spyder Ryback & J. Michael Kelly.

  4. As a kid he would have 12' noodle rods with florescent tips spray painted on. He would whip egg sacs out for miles it seemed and when those tips started shaking it was game on. He was one of my captain heros. I last spoke with him on Summerville. Humble, kind and just as excited to see someone else catch a fish. I would be honored to be compared to Sandman some day. Love to his family. Captain Larry Hammond

  5. Hello all.  I have received a few contacts.  Keep them coming.  The first newsletter is nearly complete.

I have begun working on a possible Pro/Am for the Port of Rochester for next year.  The Mayor's office has been responsive and have asked for me to put together a formal proposal.

I need help on this and we should put together a team to work on it.  Please talk to your sponsors about supporting it.  No need to reinvent the wheel either.  Let's follow the successful formats of the other harbors.

    Ideas?  Capt. Larry

  6. Hello GCBA folks.  Can you P.M. me your email, address and phone numbers?  I am honored to be the new secretary and am working on a monthly and/or biweekly newsletter.

Here's ideas for the GCBA Gazette:

pen project- statistics, volunteers, pictures, dates, etc

important dates- derbies, tournaments, meetings, etc

Featured Anglers- This section will feature one or two members per month.  This section will cover the angler's techniques, specialties, accomplishments, sponsors, pictures, testimony from clients, biography, (whatever you guys provide me with when I interview you).  I know most of the members are humble and don't like to brag.  I will do that for you.

"Goby Corner"-  This will be a fun-spirited drilling section.  "You've been Gobied"

Sponsor section-  here is chance for you all to promote your sponsors.  I will do my best to send sponsors the GCBA Gazette too. Please send me pictures, contact information, tech reports, where to buy, information on why their product works, etc.

Guest writer section- we have some of the best fishermen in the world right here on Lake Ontario.  Don't be afraid to write that article that you've always wanted to write.  You can p.m. me or email it to me and I can edit if you want.

Please P.M.  Captain Larry Hammond (Henrybud) for contact information and ideas.

  7. Right on.  I did use them in the Genny and especially the Niagara.  They are great and very stealthy too.  The foam ones that fold are made to "flip".  I didn't like that feature.  The other ones worked better.

The foams ones can be rigged to stay port or starboard though.  There's a diy on that.  After a few trips, they become automatic to use too.

  8. They are ready to go.  They need to be cleaned up a little, maybe a coat of paint on the pvc rod holders.  One of the bases broke years ago when I hit the dock.  It does not effect the performance at all.  They work perfectly as they should.  Swivel bases.  You'll need to grab some new hardware (nuts and bolts) for mounting, but I always did anyway from boat to boat.

They each come with 2 sections of 2 ft arms for a choice of running them as 2 footers or 4 footers.  They are the 620's.

I'm looking for a good mountain bike for my son or $175 for the pair.   My son is 16 and he wants a quality bike if I trade.

    Larry

  9. This is a great thread.  I have noticed that on very rough days that some of the best captains run bags regardless of speed.  Is this a boat control thing?  Do the bags offer a more consistent bait offering?
