  1. I am in the process MAYBE buying a 1985 Sea Ray Amberjack.  I had a survey done yesterday and am waiting for the report.  The initial report says she may need mechanical attention.

I need a recommendation on getting an estimate done on the mechanical stuff; maybe gimbal bearing adjustment/replacement, electrical (one of the power trim's doesn't seem to power up) and one of the engine's was bone dry (coolant).

The specs:  Twin 170 h.p. mercruisers that are closed cooling outfitted. The port engine was bone dry upon inspection (coolant wise). Why would that be?  The starboard is full.   Both engines' oil looks good, not milky or anything.

The outdrives will need new anodes but appear to be in good shape.

Anyway,  I need advice as far as how much an estimate would be (roughly) to have all that stuff looked into.

How much would all that stuff be to repair considering that I may just "go for it" as far new gimbal bearings, bellows (might as well if they are going into there anyway, right?) and electrical?

Advice on an honest mechanic that I can say,  "So and so sent me to you and highly recommended you...".  My intentions are to hire a mechanic and stick with the mechanic faithfully.  I believe in services like that.

I appreciate you folks reading this and offering advice.  The offer I MAY make on the boat will be based on what I have to do to get her turn key and dependable.  If it's not worth it, I keep looking.  Thanks!  Captain Larry Hammond

  2. I am finally getting my first charter boat rigged.........of course it is being surveyed on Friday.  I am in need of a lot of stuff.  I was given a very nice head unit with an extra tube.  It's a Furuno FCV 581.

I also am in need of a rocket launcher type deal for the boat.   It's a 1985 Sea Ray Amberjack 255.  It's a rag top.

Along the back of the boat is a small riser with a rotten piece of wood that runs along the gunwale.  I would love to replace that and raise it up a little with a nice piece of aluminum or the like.  Let me know if any of you have gear or advice.  i appreciate it all!  Thanks!

  3. I have a set for sale. They are great riggers and built to last. Very easy to operate and ultra durable. The booms come in two sections of 2' so you can choose. I am asking $200 for the pair with swivel bases. I am hoping to get electrics very soon.

  4. Unfortunately they are online only.  Fish USA has P line spoons that are beautys too.   They ship from PA and are fast!

The P line's are very nice spoons and will also be "unfamiliar" to our fish.   I love cleos too, but sometimes our fish see a lot of our local stuff and strike at something unfamiliar.  http://www.fishusa.com/product/P-Line-Pro-Steel-Spoons

I hope you crush those fish!!!!!   Here's another neat tip that I started running this year with improved hook ups and less damage to the fish;   https://outdooraddictions.wordpress.com/2015/01/01/the-trailing-hook-method/

I use scientific angler fly backing to do the trailing hook technique.  This truly works!  Tight Lines.

  5. Although very expensive check out B.C. spoons. The genuine silver and gold 50/50 is awesome. Nickle appears black under water but real silver retains its shine deeper. Without a doubt, a bonus rod with a fat night crawler under a bobber is deadly. Trust me, open your bail with that rig or use a bait runner reel. I hope you get some beauties!

  6. Right on thanks. I have some ready to go too. I have chummed a few of my summer swims this week, but havent had a carp. I fish Irondequoit bay and Genessee river. Any spots are appreciated. This would be my first fall trying for carp. Last winter I chummed the Genny daily and ended up with some decent steelhead.....but carp??? Thanks again!!
