Kade, Ernie, and I got on the lake about 6:30 last night and pretty quickly found some of Sean's leftovers from yesturday. First fish whacked f/f on mag dipsy out 220', and I mean WHACKED. Went to grab the rod and stopped 'cause it had stopped dancing. I said to Ernie and Kade that I didn't know if he ate it or if he was gone, but looked like dipsy was tripped so would have to bring it in anyway. Just as I grabbed the rod out of the holder, he took off and just about took the rod out of my hand. Handed the rod to Kade and got the lead line out of his way. Fish made a couple good runs and had Kade screaming "Get the net...get the net". Looked back, fish is eye level 50' behind the boat. Kade got it to the back of the boat and it made one last run off to the starboard side weaving in and out of the rigger rod line and the other mag dipsy line. Finally got a nice atlantic to the net. Got reset and the other mag dipsy out 200' takes off. Kade brings in a twin to the first one. Off to a great start. Picked a small laker on a rigger at 50', and two small lakers on mag dipsy out 240'. Only dropped one fish. Felt like another good atlantic. Picked up at 8:30. Great evening on the water. Lake was quite choppy when we got there, but had laid down for the run back to the launch. Kyle

Yup...know exactly what's gonna happen...same thing that happened last year...caught a pig laker in front of Myers...and wasn't signed up. But, signing up and only having 1 day to fish, Kade really puts the pressure on me to get us on fish!!! Kyle

I'm sure we'll be fishing, but only one day, so we're not going to sign up for the derby. Probably be on Cayuga. Kyle

Kade and I launched from T-Falls and headed north around noon. Set up just south of Sheldrake and continued trolling north. Got a few small salmon on cheaters, couldn't get much else going. Crossed over to east side and turned south towards AES, nothin'. Got down to AES, picked up and ran back to west side. Reset and headed south. Things finally started to pick up. Our catch of the day was a 7# brown on 50' rigger. Caught another brown about 3#, and some more salmon. No lakers tho. Kyle

Wish I was, doesn't look like it's gonna happen tho. Kids wanna try tubing...maybe I'll take them to Cowanesque and tie a big bucktail spinner to the tube and see if we can get a musky to hit. Kyle

Kade's twin sister, Kieran, has just recently started asking me to take her fishing without Kade. Needless to say, Kade was not happy about it, but all in all he handled it pretty well. So, Kieran and I, and a friend of mine, Gary, dropped at T-Falls about 6:30 pm. We ran up to the boyscout camp and set up trolling north. Took a nice eater LL on mag dipsy out 275', and a just legal LT on the 40' rigger while I was setting up. Reset both rods, and about ten minutes later, another LL on same mag dipsy out 275'. A little while later, a LT on 60' rigger. At this point I was doing a little head scratching. I don't have speed/temp probe, and I forgot my Fish Hawk TD. Surface temp was 66-68, and we were catching salmon down around 85', and catching LT down between 40' and 60', kinda odd. Went almost an hour without moving a rod while we zig zagged between 90 and 360 fow. I had been playing with different depths on both dipsy rods without any hits. Light bulb went off, brought inside dipsy up to 175', and told Gary to swing in to about 90 fow and then turn to run parallel to shore. I wanted to see if any lakers were sittin' on the bench. Yup, there were a few there, managed 3 around 6 lbs on mag dipsys out 175' and 200', and another small salmon. That ended our evening, just south of Sheldrake. Ended up with 4 lakers and 3 salmon, and 1 swing-and-a-miss. We had a blast. Kieran was so excited to be out there with "just" Dad, and Gary is new to trolling the finger lakes, and has not had much success out of his boat, so he was almost as excited as Kieran. Kieran has not had much interest in fishing because Kade does not take kindly to having her on the boat with us and sharing the rods. ( He has a rare chromosome disorder with mental/psychological issues.) Looks like poor Dad may have to start fishing twice a week so each kid has a fair shake. Kyle

Good job Rob! Kade & I fished south of you, we started at T-falls and went south, crossed over to Myers, turned north and trolled up to AES, went back accross and down the west side to boyscout camp. We worked our butts off, and struggled to put anything together. We ended up with 4 lakers, 1 small brown, and 1 small atlantic. Not complainin', just had to work for every fish we got. Biggest was a 10.8 lb LT, and a 7.4 lb LT. And I can't believe how nasty it looked all day and never really rained. We picked up around 3:00, it got rough quick! Kyle

Kade and I fished Sheldrake sunday morning with a guy from work. A lot of bait right out front, and a lot of small salmon. A lot of hit & misses on sliders. Lakers seemed to be very scattered, picked one up on dipsy out 280', one on 40' rigger, and one on a slider off 40' rigger. Took a very hard shot on a stickbait off big board, ripped off about 30' and gone. Kyle

I've checked mine with a Fish Hawk DT, mag dipsey on #3 with braid out 300' is down 90'. Out 200' it's down 70'. Good work Rob, I think we will be on Cayuga Sun and Mon out of T-falls. Kyle

For what it's worth...I didn't have any problems with their customer service. They were more than willing to stand behind their product. It was the lack of knowledge that was the problem. I would call and describe the issues I was having, they would have me change different settings, and ultimately have me send it in to them for testing. Went thru this three times, every time it came back with a new transducer, and I still had problems, it would act fine for a while then bottom reading would go nuts and eventually just quit reading bottom. After the last time, I called customer service and demanded a new unit and the gal asked me to describe the problem. I told her the whole history and without hesitation she told me to set transducer setting to deep salt and it would be fine. She said it was a known issue with them. I was pretty po'd that it took that long to get a hold of a knowledgable rep., but it has worked like a charm ever since. The first time I had problems, I called while on the water, and they overnighted a new transducer to me thinking that was the problem. I would bet they will ship you a new mount without questioning it. Good luck. Kyle

If you continue to have trouble losing bottom with the Humminbird, change your transducer setting to deep salt water. I bought a 788c a couple years ago and almost threw it in the lake several times because of that. Sent it back to them three times, and finally one of their reps told me to change to deep salt, no problems since. Kyle

We got on the water @ 2:00 on sat and fished between T-falls and AES. Action was slow, lost a screamer on a dipsey out in front of AES, and picked up a 4-5lb laker on a rigger out in the middle. Sunday we started out south of Myers and hit Kade's 2nd place brown off the boards as soon as we got set up. Got another small brown before we turned around and headed north. Trolled east side up to AES...nothing. Went across to T-falls and headed south and rods started poppin' right and left. Nothing big, but mostly legal LL. Around 3:00 we decided to put in our last play, ran the mag dipseys out 300' and 330' and ran down the middle headed south toward Myers. Not long and we had another screamer on a dipsey rod, Kade fought it like a pro, and 20' behind the boat it comes to the top, sticks it's tongue out at us, and spits the hook. That was the biggest laker we have had on yet (aren't they always). Reset and picked up a nice LL on a dipsey As it turned out, we could have kept a couple of the bigger LL and gotten Ernie's little girl on the board too, oops. We had a great time, boated around 15 fish on sunday, kids had a great time, no fights over the rods, and the rain held off. PSST...hey Rob...big guys were out in the middle 100' down over 300'-360' fow between T-falls and Meyers. Kyle

Kade and I are in, just sent money today. We will have a friend and his daughter with us as well, should be entertaining watchin' the kids fight over the rods. Kade does not share well when it comes to fishin'. Kyle

You were right Zeke, catching was real slow. We were able to launch, water was level with top of docks. Fished from 2:00 to 7:00 without moving a rod. We started out with the boards in front of the yacht club working just north of the mud line. Everything on the screen was down around 60 feet so we switched to the riggers and dipsys. Trolled thru a lot of fish and bait, couldn't put anything together that they wanted. Next time! Kyle

Planning on heading to Cayuga this afternoon. Anybody know if launch at Tremain Park is under water or not? I know the water is up, just don't know how much. Thanks. Kyle

Yup, that was probably us you saw. Triton walleye boat, white top and bottom with blue down sides. We were trying all the humps and bumps with the two dypsies, and running two shallow rigger lines with sticks. Sounds like you had better luck than we did. Way to go. Kyle

Finally got back on the water saturday. Kade & I launched out of T-Falls around 1:30. Worked west side north and south of the park. Looked at a blank screen pretty much all afternoon from 70 fow out to 250 fow. Managed one small laker south of the park on mag dipsy out 180' in 120 fow. The only fish and/or bait we marked were down 220' over 360 fow. Not a bad first trip of the season, both motors started and ran, everything worked, boat didn't sink, and the weather was beautiful. Felt good to get back on the water, and Kade was plenty happy to be back on the boat too. Kyle

Fleas weren't as bad on Cayuga as they have been the last couple of weeks. I agree with Rob...the floating parking lots were bad...at least by the boyscout camp Sunday. We got wrapped up once, had to put the boat in neutral just to get the dipsy rods in, couldn't move 'em. Kyle
