  1. Couldn't figure out how to upload a pic off my phone...had to wait til I got on a real 'puter. Here's a pic of one of the salmon from saturday. Kyle
  2. Looks like a happy crew...good job Sean! We had a good afternoon trip, just couldn't find any slob lakers like you guys. Kyle [ Post made via Android ]
  3. Skach.....our gps speed was @ 2.5. We usually troll a little slower than that, but nothing was happening, so we started bumping our speed up. Kyle [ Post made via Android ]
  4. To steal some of Sean's famous words...it was a great day to be on Cayuga. Kade and I launched at T-falls @ 2:30 and headed north. Set up just below scout camp and dipped in on the bench. Doubled up on dipsey rods out 160 and 180, both small lakers. Couldn't get much going after that, so we moved out to @ 200 fow. Started a slow pick of just legal salmon on riggers @ 60' and 70', as well as both dipseys out 220 and 240. Got halfway to Sheldrake and found a pod of hungry big guys. Landed a triple, followed immediately by a double, all salmon 4-7lbs. Turned around just south of Sheldrake and headed south. Steady pick of 4-5 lb salmon and a couple more lakers until we picked up @ 6:30. Ended the day 15/15. Kade was one tired boy when we got done. They were hitting anything we put down 70-100' as long as it was blue. Kyle [ Post made via Android ]
  5. I've been pondering this for awhile, trying to figure out how best to put in to words. I fish for the usual reasons...because I love it, I love being outdoors, been fishing since I learned how to walk, gives me a break from reality, etc, etc. But, at the heart of my obsession with the sport is my son Kaden. I'll try and keep this short...Kaden has a very rare chromosome disorder called 48XXYY Syndrome. He is one of only about a thousand diagnosed cases world-wide. With this disorder comes a lot of learning disabilities and psychological / mental health issues. The best way to describe this disorder is to list everything else that he has been diagnosed with: Autism, Aspergers, Speech Aproxia, ADHD, Bipolar, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, PDD NOS, and probably a few more that I can't remember. All of this wrapped up into one. Needless to say, he has a lot of challenges. He is not "normal" and does not fit in with other kids his age. The biggest problem is...he KNOWS it...but can't change it. He struggles every day, trying his best to be "normal", to fit in, but just can't quite do it, which leads to a lot of behavioral outbursts that don't help his plight to fit in at all. I honestly cannot even imagine what it must be like to walk in his shoes. Fortunately for me, Kaden loves to fish. It doesn't matter to him if were pond fishing for bluegills, trout fishing, ice fishing, or trolling. Fishing gives him a chance to just be Kaden...to be himself and not worry about what anyone else thinks. It gives him a chance to feel successful...to feel good about himself... to be proud of something... to be truly happy inside. So, I guess, I fish for Kaden. And for me, being able to witness the glean of happiness, awe, and wonder in his eyes that I rarely see except when we're fishing is...honestly...undescribable. I can't put it into words. But...we fish every day. Kyle
  6. Here's a pic of the board...hope it's readable. Kyle
  7. I won't tell...and with Kade's disabilities, he can't read yet anyway...so...secret's safe here. Kyle
  8. Don't get discouraged...fish had lock-jaw on Cayuga as well. Kyle
  9. We got a late start Saturday, got on the water around noon. Launched at T-Falls, set up right out front in the middle and headed north. 80' rigger fired before I got all of the rods in the water, and Kaden battled "Big Head" to the boat. Thought to myself "gonna be a good day!" Continued north to the scout camp, lots of bait and fish on the bench but they weren't active. We did manage a few takers on f/f off dipsys, and dropped a couple of good fish. Ended the day 2 lakers, a few dropped fish, and Kade in first place. We decided to fish out of Bruce's boat sunday due to weather forcast for good chance of rain. Found the fish from saturday above scout camp, but still weren't very active. Number wise we had a better day, but nothing over 7 lbs. Ended up with 5 salmon off leadcore, 2 salmon off the 50' rigger, and 4 lakers off dipsys. Enough action to keep Kade busy, but looking at the screen it should have been a circus. Still an awesome weekend of fishing, and Kade's fish held up and he won the youth division, which was the goal anyway. Wes & Carolyn - nice to meet and chat with you afterwards! Kyle
  10. Thanks for the update on the weeds...Kade & I are headed that way shortly. Looks like today is gonna be our "pre-fish" for B&B's, don't think we'll make it up again before next weekend. Gettin' dark too early to make the run up after work during the week. Kyle
  11. WTG Carolyn!!!! If yer usin' the plastic rod holders in the second pic for yer dipsy rods...be careful, a big king will remove them for ya. Trust me. Kyle
  12. Sounds familiar...we did same thing last night on Cayuga...only minus bait...and marks.....actually we did manage 1 20" LL, and had a few sniffers on the dipsy rods with f/f, no takers tho. Kyle
  13. From the looks of the forecast for Ithaca, you should be ok, calling for WNW 12. We fish out of a 19' Triton and usually don,t get blown off unless it's over 15 directly out of the north or south. Kyle
  14. Kade & I ran up for a quick trip after work. Got on the water @ 6:30pm and ran up to the scout camp. Kade wanted to run all f/f so we set up with sd and flies on the dipsy rods and one rigger, put a grease trap down on the other rigger. Started with dipsys out 180' and 200', riggers at 65' and 75'. Got everything set up and swung into 80' fow, well, that was the plan, except my judgement was off a little and we swung in right on one of the long points, drug the shallow dipsy for a while. Just as we got it back up off the bottom it fired, laker @ 4lb. Released it, got rod reset, and 65' rigger pullin' grease trap 8' off the ball pops. I grabbed it and handed it to Kade. He reeled down on him and started squealing "Get the net!!!!Get the net!!!" I thought...hmmm...good laker. A few minutes later, this guy comes out of the water like a missile. Thought Kade was gonna pee his pants. Wanted to get him back in the water as quick as possible, so didn't get a weight, but, biggest to date on our boat. Fished 'til dark without movin' another rod, but I'll take an evening like that anytime. Kyle
  15. Good job Hal! I don't put big numbers in the boat either, but we manage enough to keep Kade smilin'. If the kids go home happy, that's all that matters! Kyle
  16. WTG! Nothing beats time on the water with the youngsters. I know I have more fun watching Kade catch fish than I ever had catching them myself. Kyle
  17. Nice work Andy! We didn't mark any on the bench between the scout camp and sheldrake, guess we should have inched in just a little more. Next time. We did find some willing takers out over deep water tho. Kyle
  18. This is my second try at posting this...darn touchscreen 'puters...fly came along and next thing I know...back to the home page. Anyway, We launched at T-Falls @ 10:00 and off the water at 3:00. Picked up a 5lb laker on 60' rigger while setting up. Next few hours was a slow pick of hitch hiker salmon, and a few short strikes on the dipsy rods. Around 2:00 we found some hungry fish out over deep water. Took 3 lakers between 6 and 9lbs on dipsys out 240' and 260'. Finished the day with a double on the dipsy rods. Kyle
  19. Now I know why I was droppin' them...their lips were sore. That's same area I fished in the evening. And I was blamin' it on the snubbers! WTG Mark! Kyle
  20. I hear ya Ed...been doin' ok with them on the riggers...just the dipsy rods given me a headache. Thanks for the input, Ray. Got them as loose as possible. Even to the point of bein' able to see space between screw head and the plastic. Only thing I haven't done yet is to jently pry on them to open up a little more. Gonna lose the snubbers and see what happens sunday. If that doesn't work, maybe I'll try losin' the shorts and see if that helps. If nothin' else, might keep the blow boats at bay. Kyle
  21. Good job! Always a good day when you can't keep rods in the water. Kyle
