  1. Took a trip down to nw nj for the early deer archery opener and had a blast. Nothing more exciting than walking to a baited stand at 5:30 am to find a 300 + lb bear sitting in the bait and not willing to leave. That's why my buddy gave me a blunt tip and come day break I had my first catch and release bear. Quickly got my first doe down to earn a buck. I swear it was 4 bucks per doe but I easily saw 20+ deer per day. Missed a slammer and settled on a nice 8 and 6 does for the freezer and another c&r 400 lb bear. Oh yeah had a bear take a mature doe outa my friends tree in his yard. On our way back we discussed how with so many bears someone would die soon. Next day someone did. Its crazy down there. Also hit some private ponds for many 5-7 lb bass on sawbellies. Now I can concentrate on mr big and enjoy my season knowing I've got enough meat for the family.

  2. I know they're there but I can't get them either. My buds who do say 12' down with harnesses in the summer center lake at night and outside weed edges with sticks in purple at night from sept on. I've only caught a few shorts while bassin, but have put many unproductive nights in now I just go to the susky for them.

  3. It was handled with care and released unharmed. I knew I would get that responce. I wanted to get the hook out and it was washing around in the surf with mussel shells. Also being the fish of a lifetime I selfishly wanted a pic. While it was out for all of fourty seconds I spotted some lamprey scars. I then released and contacted dec to report my catch and findings and was told my handling methods were fine and even congradulated. I never gilled it and it was evenly cradled the whole time. I've got a short vid of the release I can't get to load but I assure you the fish was in better shape than me.

  4. So a little late but I was going through pics from last year and here is my bucket lister landed on shore and before anyone freaks out yes it was safely released and to those that say they fight like a log this one jumped four times and nearly spooled me twice. 45 min fight and I will always remember every minute of it. At a few points in the battle I said to my buddy something on this rod is gonna give. I could see daylight between the reel seat. Oh yeah on a worm.

  5. Onions don't fight back. I released most of mine and upon returning day after day the same fish would be around doing what they do but much spookier. So really if we revive carefully as we all should the fish learns and spawns without being caught and kept. Just an opinion based on what I see.

  6. The lampreys do stop feeding to spawn but that is the most fish caught without marks I've heard about but I did se one hitcha ride to the inlets headwaters on a rainbow. My buddy put his lifting skills to the test and got the trout and released it sans lamprey. Now that's lifting I can condone. Congrats on the good day.

  8. I saw two guys out last thurs who had to deal with skim ice and some ice on the ramp but they made it out and back with no problem. Funny thing was they kept seeing me land fish on shore and ended up pulling the boet and fishing and catching their only two fish standing next to me.

saw this guy 6 times during bow on a property i only bow hunt. i got sick of gunning before i even took the safty off so the 27th i decided to sit in the abandoned corn crib after work. i saw him chase a doe a half mile away from me so i figured it was over but 20 min later i see him coming my way alone at 300 yds or so. ten min later there he is 15 yds but instead of choosing my shooting lane he turns left and heads down the corn crib. so i have to make a move or lose him. so i start the long loud walk to the other end of the crib with him no more than 20 ft away. when i got to the end i drew before i got to the door and there he is 10 yds. we must have gone step for step down the entire crib. so away goes the rage 2 through the boiler room. double lung heart an he still made it 150 yds painting the cattails red. those big guys are tough.
