  1. There's nothing wrong with Otters, I have a pair I use for winter fishing in my 165 Alumacraft but if you want a really awesome pair of boards check out the Auroralites regular size boards. For pulling copper ,core and multiple flat lines for browns these boards cannot be beat. They make the Otters look sick in comparison. http://www.auroralitestackle.com/planerboards.html

Make sure you go down the page and look at the "regular original size boards".

Damn, those are some expensive boards! I would hope they would hold up.

  2. I bought the previous model Furuno.

The 582 which is now the 585.

Started with a transome mount transducer and upgraded to the through hull.

That made a big difference in the performance of the unit

10 years of completely trouble free use and if theres fish down there I mark them period.

Never read or heard anything negative about Furuno and if and when I have to replace it, I will go with the 585.

    Good luck in your search.

A good FF is worth it's weight in gold.

    Glen

+1  Best unit I ever had and I had a few good ones. I wouldn't hesitate getting another one. I have the transom mount transducer and it's fine, but I'm considering a thru hull in the future. I've never had a problem with frequency interference from other boats with the 50 and 200 of the Furuno. I also have never heard anything negative about a Furuno which is why I chose it. I can't say that about other FF's. Not saying others are not good or anything so I hope no one takes that the wrong way.

Hmmmmmm...I never got the sale price? And you should feel bad about it! :P

  5. Will you be fishing barney's next weekend? If so i'll swing into myers on friday and toss it in your boat or if your on the lake friday mid day swing by my dock. You guys are killing me on the new boats. My 21 year old rig still catches fish.

Just goes to show you that it's not the boat :D

  6. So the new 3 rod rule allows 3 rods per person I assume? Is that only with one person or is the rule basically changed to 3 rods per person no matter what?

I hadn't heard of this yet, but it sounds great!

It's 3 rods per fisherman freshwater only. No change for saltwater fishing. New legislative rule allowing this change was signed by Gov. Cuomo on 8/17/11.

  7. Fished from about 1:30 pm until 4:00pm today in that heat! Managed 2 nice keeper salmon out over 350ft of water. Fleas and weeds were a little nasty where I fished today. One of the salmon had one of the largest lampreys I ever saw attached to it. It wouldn't even let go while in the boat. I had to practically cut it off the fish. The poor salmon had the nastiest hole in it from that lamprey that I ever saw so I had to keep it. The other was let go to bite another day. Needless to say that monster lamprey won't be feeding on anything again

  8. Anybody know if the Gander Mtn in Johnson City stocks Malin wire line? Hoping to get up to Cayuga or Seneca in the next couple weeks and have to pick up some wire line. If not gander Mtn, any other shops that might have it? Thanks, Ron

That would be your only option unless you're fishing in the the north end of Cayuga. Bass Pro in Auburn carries wire and copper and is only about 20 minutes from Frontenac Marine which is in Union Springs.

  9. Thanks Guys. We will prob. only run the fith rod when fooling around when things are slow. Nice to be able to .

Same here. It's nice to have the option especially when fishing alone. Even if I had 2 others aboard I would only run 6 rods anyway. This won't affect charter captains much either because they are usually running as much as they can handle anyway since most have 4-5 clients on board. A big thanks to all those that kept us updated.

  10. Well the board has been real quiet the last week. No secrets getting out here  Were off to Selkirk shores st pk tomorrow. Going to fish with just my two rods ;( Staying through laborday. Planning on catching the big one and Blah blah blah. So how big will this years winner be???? I think 41.5 # What is your best guess

You can actually fish 3 rods now if you want :)

    :clap::clap::yes::yes:

Through Labor Day! That's a lot of fishing! Good luck to you on landing that big one ;);)
