  1.  I'm looking for a early 90's to around 2000 or so 26-32 ft wide beamed fishing boat. Dual inboards with low to moderate hours on the engines are preferred. I'm looking for something that is fully rigged for salmon and trout fishing....down riggers, washdown, modern higher end electronics, auto pilot, plenty of rod holders etc... I just want to load it with my tackle and be ready to go in the spring. A hard top is preferred, but I have an open mind depending on the boat. I would also like the boat to be able to sleep at least 2-3 comfortably. Amenities such as shore power, battery charger, electric fridge enclosed head with holding tank is much preferred as we plan on staying on the boat on the weekends. A/C would be nice, but not a necessity. I plan on docking the boat in Oswego or Sodus Bay. I'm not looking for any fixer uppers or boats with stringer or transom issues. If you had a 2012 survey on the boat that would possibly suffice, otherwise, the boat would have to pass a satisfactory marine survey. If anyone has such a boat they are trying or willing to sell please PM me with what you have and at what price you are willing to sell. I'm not trying to upset or offend anyone with the next statement, but please don't email if you are asking 10 - 20 grand more than what is fair value for your boat or if the boat is stripped of the fishing equipment I desire. I had a few of these type of responses in the past and I don't want to waste yours or my time. As always, you are entitled to sell your boat for any price you desire, but I'm just stating I won't pay over fair market value.

    Thanks,
    Mike.

  2. Washington will announce how we will deal with the corn crop shortage after election day. The most likely scenario is the price of oil will rise dramatically and we will pay more for our gasoline. Watch th video,

The price of oil is always rising dramatically regardless of the corn crop. It's a commodity that feeds on speculation and big profits and unless that is severely restricted it won't matter. If this might mean less ethanol then great! I'll trade off an increase in gas prices for non ethanol gas. I do it now. My older machinery is thanking me this year since I have more access to non ethanol fuel and I have saved many dollars in ethanol related repairs compared to past years. There is always a trade off!

  3. It is normal to see lampreys in the spring. We would see lampreys on one out of 5 or 10 fish and it would depend on what part of the lake you fished. This year we had lampreys on 1 out of 3 and many would have 2 or 3 on a fish. By mid or late summer we would see very few. This year we are seeing lampreys bigger than I have ever seen on the fingers and they are attaching to everything. Downrigger balls, spin doctors, mag spoons, lower unit , bottom of the boat. It is a shame that that the many large lakers that I have carefully released over the last few years are going to die a slow death by the hands of an invasive fish that the DEC decided not to treat this year. They made the comment that they felt the lake could withstand the extra mortality from not treating this year. I understand that flood waters prevented the trapping of some lampreys but control lies in treatment. One lamprey can lay 100,000 eggs so thinking you can control them with traps is fool hardy. Fisherman pump alot of money into the economy and you will see many move to other lakes.

Count me as one of those that will probably be moving on from Cayuga next year. Fishing this year on Cayuga was some of the worst I have ever seen. If the lampreys are the culprit it will probably take a few years to improve even with treatment. Treatment is no guarantee either with the way the DEC budget has been slashed the last few years. I wouldn't count on it.

  4. I'm interested but ive heard that the boat has had considerable water damage. I heard u talking about some stringer issues it had over the radio this past summer and even though they have been repaired I'm concerned with the rest of the stringers. If one goes the rest arent usually far behind. I know a survey says its good but stringer repair is very costly and not sure it's something I wanna do to an 87! But if she doesn't sell over the winter and your still looking to unload her let me know maybe we can work out a deal

That's the purpose of a marine survey and why you should never buy a boat until you have a qualified marine surveyor scrutinize it. Most boats that old have stringer and transom issues.

  5. ...so what's with the eel attachments on rigger balls? :wondering: A couple of you have mentioned that it has happened to you it in the past few weeks. Well, Sunday I had two occasions during the day that there was a eel stuck on my rigger ball (12lb sharks) and the second time the ball came up with an eel on, it had 2 on it. These bad boys are are mature ones, say 14"+. Not sure when they hitch on but my set was between 100' & 120' down.

I was hoping one of you fishologist :nerd: would chime in and educate me (us).

Hopefully, you took care of business before returning those predators ;)
