  1. I have used a knife from cutco , a fillet knife that goes from 8. Inches to 12 inches, by sliding out of the handle trays share and guaranteed. For life , what ever that is worth

I'll second what he said about the cutco knife. Not cheap, but the guarantee is second to none. I like the way you can lengthen it too if needed.

  2. What size class reel has everyone been using with the sea flee? Did you put the whole 300yd spool on? Just wondering if my accudepth 47 would be large enough or if a size 57 would be better. I see the 57 is rated big enough to take the whole spool. Not sure if I want to have a couple hundred feet left after filling the 47 and have nothing to do with it. Thanks in advance.....

Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I spooled with 300 yds of 30lb on my 57's a few weeks ago. The 300 yd spool fits perfectly on the 57's.

  3. Wow! Just like mine. Great boat! Fishes real nice too. Same year only mine has a Bravo 3 drive with 5.7 EFI and only 300 hours. Of course mine was stored for 6 years which accounts for the low hours. Good luck with the sale as it shouldn't take too long to sell her. Arney's just had a 96 for sale and it sold in about a week!

  4. If I already have GPS and cable steering what else will I need? (

If you decide on an auto pilot make sure you get one that is compatible for mechanical steering systems. It will cost more than one made for hydraulically steered boats. I know some guys who buy the hydraulically steered units for their mechanical steering boats because they are several hundred bucks cheaper. They can be rigged to work, but you will burn it out in about a year or so and IMO it's better to do it right the first time. I would recommend the Sitex SP110 for mechanical steering. It will cost you a little more than 1800 bucks. I believe Raymarine also makes a unit for mechanically steered boats for about 2000 bucks. Raymarine's hydraulically steered units are almost 1/2 the price of their mechanically steered units. An autopilot is an expensive addition to any boat, but it's something I can't do without because I mainly fish with only 1 other person. Once you have one you won't do without one again.

  5. It is a larger doghouse, but it can be worked around rather easily... I routinely fish with 3-4 guys on this boat and like anything, you figure out how to best utilize the space you have.  You can fight fish right in the corners or even better is right on top of the wide doghouse!  I cannot even dream of counting how many fish have come aboard this boat...

  6. OK I am going to look into the network approach.  It seems like a good setup, and since the boat I am looking at is going to be pretty bare bones I think the additional monitoring of engine functions should be nice since I won't have guages for a lot of things.

I see the fishhawk x4 needs a separate transducer.  Will it interfere with the transducer needed for the fishfinder or are they operating on different frequencies?

Also I have been looking at various types of sonar systems.  Lowrance for instance has "Structure Scan" and some kind of high definition downscan and some of the other manufacturers have something similar.  Is this stuff as nice as it looks and would you specifically make sure that the fishfinder you got had these features or are they more just toys and not necessary?

Thanks for all the help, I think this will get me started in the right direction.

Some have reported some interference with transducers that are running a 50khz frequency if the transducers are located too close to each other. The fish hawk runs on a 70khz frequency. I don't think this a big problem though. I didn't take the chance and located my fish hawk transducer on the opposite side of my fishfinder transducer and it works out fine for me. The people at fish hawk can advise you and they are great to work with in my opinion.

  7. Thanks Mickey Fin & Rickfish! I have looked at the one at Salmon Country & looking at one in Fairhaven on wednesday.

Rich L- My contender will be up for sale at the end of the season. It's a 1989, 305 merc I.O. I will put a full listing on here with pics in the next few days. She comes with all the equip, plus a 15hp 4stroke kicker & trailer.

send me a pm with any interest!

Whatever you end up buying make sure you get a complete marine survey. I recommend Ira Jones because he is the best in the business and leaves no stone unturned when surveying a boat. The guys here can attest to his expertise. I used him when I bought my boat a few months back. He is worth every penny. Good luck in your search.

  8. Those are real nice boats. I sold my 1998 Trophy 2352 I/O last year to a LOU member who uses it on Cayuga. He rigged it to the hilt and then some! Lol. I liked the boat a lot, but wanted a little bigger boat for Lake O or I would have kept it. Good luck with your sale.

  9. Jimski, thanks for the reply. My boat is fiberglass and only used in freshwater, therefore, a magnesium alloy anode is the recommended choice in all the literature I have read for all freshwater applications.

  10. Hi,

A few weeks ago I installed the sp110 sitex on my 1987 searay. It uses a octopus mechanical drive unit that has been in production for 20 years. Its canadian made  not chinesee junk.It seemed like a tough job that might need a installer but after reading the instructions several times and contacting the manufacturer everything got done .Now I could do it in about three hours at the most. The unit works very good and have no isues with slow speed problems  that were reported.

Its alot easier now to troll with the autopilot.

Got the same unit installed on my Penn Yan with Bravo 3 drive and so far so good. Knock on wood! Lol. I'm really happy with it so far. Did you need the spacer kit too?

  11. Anybody try the Sea Flee line from Blood Run? Just looking for some reviews. Thanks

I spooled up with some 30lb and used it for the 1st time last weekend. Worked great and looks much better than flea flicker. Not a single flea on the line either! I highly recommend it!

  12. First of all my electrical knowledge is zilch and I'm thinking of purchasing one of those magnesium anodes to hang overboard my boat next to my outdrive as added protection against stray current in the water at my marina. I have a Bravo 3 outdrive and they are known to be vulnerable to corrosion. The anode also comes with a clip on one end. Does anyone know where I'm supposed to attach this clip in order for it to work properly? Somewhere on the engine block? Do I need to do something else in order for it to work properly? Any insight would be helpful.

  13. My probe was acting funny too before the cable holding it to the ball broke and I put it up for the day. It kept jumping every few seconds from 75 to 46 or so and at 1 point read 31. I had to go down 90 over 130 to get it to change at all from 74.

My question is: can the temps change that quick to affect the probe or was it malfunctioning? How quick does the probe react to the change?

Is there really water in the 30's over 130?

This is my first year with a probe and its not as easy as I thought is was going to be.

    Thanks for any feedback

Batteries. Review your manual. Erratic readings are usually an indication that batteries need to be changed.

  14. we blanked yesterday.  really warm water water moved in.  74 down 85 and probably went deeper but my probe was acting up.

not many marks and not much bait.  went looking for kings set up in 100 went out to 220.  Then the north wind got strong and we came back to the inside with no hits and called it.

It wasn't your probe. We were having a tough time finding any temp below 71 degrees on Monday. Not much bait or marks either. We didn't go beyond 220 ft of water though.

  15. That makes sense. I tried buying his boat last summer but when I said I wanted a survey Nick cut off all contact with me. Must have known about stringers when he was asking 16k

Maybe that's something you should have said in a private PM to the seller. Why trash out a statement like that for everyone to read if you have no proof. Anyway, did you get hurt in a deal? No survey, no deal, right?
