  1. 17 lb in the middle of july is way too thin for fishing lake ontario. I ran 20 this summer and had to check everything every 20 min when fleas are bad. Not too much fun. I switched to 30 and no more problems.
  2. I have a friend looking for a used boom that is at least 40 inches.
  3. I will definetly be buying the x4 this winter for next season, i have had enough buying batteries and watching temps bouncing all over. is the new unit more stable as far as temps? [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  4. Just curious, for all you guys out there who use the old style 840 probes, how long does the battery last for you? My battery only seems to get 6 to 8 hours tops is that normal?
  5. It's great!! It's somewhat similar to tuna fish made like that.
  6. This is just a very simple mix I like to do with smoked salmon. 6 to 8 oz smoked salmon 3 table spoons of mayo 1/4 cup finely diced dill pickles sliced american cheese lettuce sliced tomato onion rolls Put your salmon in a bowl, take a fork and break it up in small pieces. Add the mayo and diced pickles, mix well. You can add more mayo if it is not moist enough. Throw a large helping on an onion roll and top with cheese, lettuce and tomato. Enjoy!!!
  7. Yeah I think I will try it again thursday night myself. I hope the fishing is a little better.
  8. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8-31 Time on Water:6am - noon Weather/Temp:80's Wind Speed/Direction:sw Waves: none Surface Temp:70 Location:oswego and east to 9 mile LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits:0 Total Boated:0 Species Breakdown:none Hot Lure: tried everything no takers Trolling Speed: 1.8-2.7 Down Speed: 1.6-2.5 Boat Depth: 100-200 Lure Depth: all over ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Very very slow day again. I marked a ton of bait and fish in the 125-140 but the temps are all screwed up right now. Surface temps were 70's and 100 feet down was still 65!!! When I would send it down to 120 it was about 55-56 and that's where the fish were. Lots and lots of bait with lots of fish mixed in but no takers. I tried several color combos that usually work well for me but nothing all morning!! I think I will be out later in the week to try again.
  9. What kind of release are you using? Be sure to lower it down very slow in the water.
  10. My normal dipsy set-up is a 20 lb flouro leader and for length use the length of the rod you are using that way it is easier to net your fish. Good colors now for me are spindoctors in white/green dot, white/mnt. dew, white/wonderbread, green/chrome, greasy chicken and a-tom-mik flies in hammer, glo hammer, white crinkle, mirage, goby live to name a few. Use a 22 inch leader for flies and you should do very well with this. Good luck.
  11. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/28 Time on Water:6hrs Weather/Temp:70's Wind Speed/Direction:sw Waves: 2-4 ft rollers Surface Temp: upper 60's Location:oswego and out by 9 mile LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 1 Total Boated:1 Species Breakdown:king Hot Lure: green chrome spin doctor/hammer fly Trolling Speed: 1.9-2.4 Down Speed: 1.9-2.3 Boat Depth: 80-110 fow Lure Depth: 60-80 ft ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== It was a tough bite for me today. I trolled east out of Oswego towards 9 mile then when I got in front of the plant we got a nice 25 lb. king on and it took about 570 ft of line before we could even think about trying to reel in but eventually we boated it and it was my fathers first king in many years. He was pretty happy. We were in 85 fow down 60ft. I noticed that the temps seem to change a lot from Oswego to 9 mile, cooler water is much higher up to the surface than near Oswego. I didn't see or hear too much about anyone else catching anything as well. Thanks fish magnet (Burt) for the information today, glad you were able to hook up as well and glad I could get in touch with you I am not sure if I will be able to make it out till mid afternoon tomorrow (sunday) but I plan to try again any way. Here is my dad with his fish.
  12. If you want to save on money instead of changing line twice a year try running 30lb all year and just put on a smaller leader like 20lb or less for the different times of the year.
  13. Thanks guys for all the great info I plan to get a few wire setups next week. A lot of good choices you guys suggested.
  14. Thanks for the info Burt and everyone else. If you are on the water this weekend give me a call on 68 or 69 I usually switch back and forth to find what everyone is doing. I think I might head to 9 mile this weekend I have heard that temps are a little more stable that way due to the lake flipping.
  15. Is anyone having any luck with cut bait out of Oswego or mexico area I wanted to try some this weekend but was unsure. Thanks for any info.
  16. I am a little new to using wire and was just wondering if anyone could give me any idea what to use for a good wire rod. I don't want to break the bank or anything just looking for a good all around rod. I was told by someone that I should use the rods with the roller guides but I have seen people use regular rods also. Thanks for any info.
  17. Oswego has been hot one day and very slow the next day. Last week I had over 11 fish on in 6 hours and today I could not get a single hit trolling over 6 hrs. They are there though you just have to find them. It should continue to get better now that large numbers of adults are showing up.
  18. There are a lot in sandy pond also. I got one once there that was floresent green. When they spawn they turn real bright colors.
  19. I use mono with dipsies all the time and as long as you set them fairly light they will release fine but you have to be careful not to set to light because it will cause them to release at the wrong time. It takes quite a bit of playing with them to figure out the sweet spot. You can get away with a tighter dipsy on wire line due to not having stretch but not on mono.
  20. As long as mother nature doesn't screw things up that should still be a very good time. The mature kings have really started to show up the last two weeks.
  21. Dipsies with flasher and flies right now are getting 90 percent of my fish.
  22. It changes every year around that time. Last year after the first week in September you couldn't find any salmon in Oswego but Mexico bay held good numbers through September. This year may be different it all depends on temps and wind conditions. Pay close attention to this site untill then and you will have a very good idea before you come up.
  23. I'm pretty sure it is a bowfin also. I have caught tons of those things and they have a bony head with small teeth just like that.
