  1. what length is it and is it a Med heavy? [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  2. No problem John I would have posted a full report but I didn't have a lot to report yet.
  3. I am out a lot out of Oswego but I work a swing shift so sometimes I am out during the weekdays and other times I am out on the weekends I would be more than happy to contact you. I was out yesterday fishing 220-290 fow and got 2 kings in the boat, I had three on and good temps were aprox. 65-75 feet down. It's a little tough right now they seem to be scattered. It will pick up soon as they begin to stage.
  4. I will be in a 21 ft bayliner hard top, blue and white. I will be out tues thru thursday hopefully. I usually moniter channel 69 and 68 but I have not hardly even turned it on the last few times I was out because I was alone out there. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  5. I would go with at least 13lb weights to reduce blowback at that depth. I used to use 8lb balls but it was tough to guess where my flashers and spoons were. Do yourself a favor and get the torpedo weights. Either 13 or 15 lb. Some times there can be strong underwater current and the torpedo weights track very true.
  6. I was planning a three day trolling trip in Oswego next week, (finally got some time off from work), and I have not been out in several weeks I was just wondering if anyone new how the bite has been and what depth. Normally I have a lot of time in by this time of year but I have been working some major OT this summer and have not had much time to fish, any info would be greatly appreciated. I am renting a slip next week in wrights landing.
  7. I'm not sure what the propper name for it is, but does anyone know where to get new cockpit walls/zipper doors made up. I have a hard top it's the one that hangs straight down to the floor with the windows and zipper door. Mine is starting to get dry rotted. I was looking for some place near the oswego county area.
  8. yeah your probably right about that [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  9. That's good to hear. I was out tuesday and the bait was very scattered and only got 3 hits loosing two and landing just one big laker after 8 hrs!! I gotta get back out this week just have a small repair on my boat, the altenator went that same day. I fished Oswego to the nuke plant and saw very little bait that day.
  10. I was wondering if any one had a complete copper set up they were selling. I was going to get it all new but figured I would check here first.
  11. I trolled all day yeasterday the 5th and had a few issues with dipsy's as well, I had some major tangles with my leader lines after the dipsy getting wrapped all around the dipsys. I suspect that with the under water currents when turning were messing with everything down deep. I forgot my temp probe yesterday but I know that there were some strong currents coming from the west with the wind that we have had. I can't think of any other reason for the tangles, I usual get a few every now and then but yesterday was like every couple hours.
  12. Was your boat speed too fast? How fast were you going? You also may have been in some fast underwater currents. As long as they are tight they should not pop off. If the water was rough it might have also been the boat bouncing that did it. Just sounds like they were not tight enough.
  13. I have always done well with a northerly wind, last year I did 14 kings one day on a slight nw wind out in 120-150 fow the last week of July about 60-80 feet down.
  14. Gill-T is correct don't stop just slow down if need be it just takes a little practice. Try to net the fish quickly as soon as it gets close enough.
  15. I am just getting in to the wire game, I was using mono up untill 2 years ago so I can't really give you specifics on that one. All I can tell you is last week I had my dipsys (actually I use walker deeper divers, same basic thing) out 230 ish and I was dragging bottom at 100 fow, using mono with that length I might have got 60-70 feet deep maybe. Nothing like wire though, you feel everything and it is much easier to get deep with less line out. Not too mention it is EXTREMELY hard to release the clip on a dipsy with mono, way too much stretch (sorry not too get off topic, just love that wire).
  16. For dipsy rods I would go with the length of the rod you are using for the leader I would go at least 40 without snubber. No wire for the leader use flourocarbon or a good mono like ande.
  17. I have had good luck with that flasher using a white halo fly or mirage fly. I have not had much luck with blue but I am sure others probably have. I would get rid of the snubber and just put on a strong leader from dipsy to flasher 45-50 lb test flouro.
  18. Are you running dipsy divers with copper line? If so you will be going way too deep unless you keep it short, (as in amount of line out)
  19. The best you can do is if you have a good graph, set up where the best concentration of fish are that you are seeing, sometimes you can see the thermocline on your graph and it may look like a line across your screen. When all else fails use this site for it's intended purpose to help people catch more fish and interact with other fisherman. You can always count on up to date reports every day.
  20. Trolling too fast will cause a huge bow in your rods, butyou should have a pretty good bow in them anyway. Salmon can be anywhere in the water column depending on many things, time of year, weather, sun or cloudy.
  21. I think your speed is your problem as well. 2.7 or less is about the good target speed. Having a good temp and speed probe off a rigger weight will be a great help as well so you can tell when to speed up or slow down. I would try a amish outfitter trolling bag or 2 for your boat or the other tips suggested above. Try and put your presentations slightly above the fish. Last year my best speed was 2.3
  22. I got some 10' okuma blue diamond medium heavy dipsy rods and I love them, I highly recommend them. They have a fairly sensitive tip that gets stiffer the closer you get to the handle, they have a fiberglass core with a carbon fiber sleeve.
  23. I have been trying to check out the atommik site but it said it was suspended. Any one know why? (Tom?)
  24. Thanks guys you have all been a great help.
  25. I am looking to buy a copper rod and reel set-up I was just wondering if anyone could help with sizes and makes for the reel and what rods would work. I have never ran copper yet but I want to add to my arsenal. Do you just run them straight with no weights or dipsy?
