  1. thanks guys now I have a better idea of what to look for.
  2. I was thinking about upgrading my rod holders to something a little stronger can anyone recommend any.
  3. Okuma blue diamond dipsy rods work really well either roller guides or regular with twillie tips. I use the 10 ft MH. for dipsies.
  4. I was out there yesterday from noon till 7pm I only caught 1 laker myself the fish were either right on the bottom or way up on top. I had everything on the bottom. I wish I had went after browns I hear they did real well on them up to 60 fow.
  5. Just wondering if any one knows where to find canvas? I was trying to find blue canvas like what is used on many boat covers.
  6. Blue diamond roller or without roller and twillie tip
  7. underwater currents can sometimes cause issues with that as well when you make sharp turns, if the currents are strong
  8. Blacks releases only for me, its hard to beat the adjustable tension on them.
  9. I only use black and do very well with them.
  10. You guys are killing me with these reports I have not even had my boat out yet due to some issues with getting it out of storage. Great catch!!! I hope they hang around one more week . I will be out in about a week finally.
  11. Go with wire and never look back you will be very happy with your choice all you have to do is flick the line and the fleas will fall off and the ones that do not will get cut off at your rod tip as you reel up. Just be sure to check for kinks often and re-tie if needed try to use the best ball bearing swivels you can afford with it, you don't want wire twisting. I would have to say that 80 percent of my fish come off wire rods. You would definetly be taking the braid off in july if you were to use that, it can be a nightmare when the fleas get heavy during warm months.
  12. never tried carp before but I have eaten tilapia and a lot of people dont realize that tilapia are popular in fish ponds to clean up crap from other fish then the fish pond owners sell them as well. ( saw it on dirty jobs)
  13. greasy chicken spin doctor with goby live atomik fly and white crush spinny with halo fly atomik both have been great for 3 years now probably 90 percent of my fish are caught on these but mostly the greasy chicken set up
  14. Just wondering if anyone knew of any good venison jerky marinades I have one for teriyaki thats pretty good but I wanted to try some others that are good, I got the high mountain jerky pepper seasoning from Gander mountain and it came out TERRIBLE I wasted 15lbs of venison on it, now I have 15lbs of dog treats!!!!
  15. Great job I love to see kids out hunting, it's disgusting that New York state will not allow youths under 14 to gun hunt for deer most of the 50 states allow youths to gun hunt at a very young age.
  16. I wanted to try winterizing my boat myself this year and I am just not sure whats involved in it can any one help me? It is a mid 80's 4 cylinder IO. Thanks.
  17. I always wash my hunting clothing in a scent free sport wash then bag it up and put it in my garage (I dont park my vehicles in there so no auto smells), every morning before a hunt I wash my body with a scent free shampoo and soap then when I get to the woods I spray down with scent killer I also put some kind of deer pee on the bottom of my boots and always play the wind in your favor.
  18. I had the same gun and I always used a factory modified with it it worked well. I used many different types of shells all worked ok but I had the best luck with #4 Blackclouds. I hated the gun though, mine used to jam ALL the time no matter how clean it was, but it did shoot good when I could get shells to eject (very seldom). I traded it in towards a new benelli pump last year, it was the best thing I ever did. I will never own another auto shotgun ever again, I had 3 and all did not function well. Yours may work better maybe it was just a issue with mine? Best of luck to you.
  19. yes sometimes it can be that simple stretch it out to 10 ft and see how you do, I get hits on my dipsy rods everytime I go out.
  20. One of the problems you might be having is because you are using mono you can't get deep like you can with the wire, but having said that I have used mono in years past and still did real well with it it's just harder to get good hook-ups with mono though because of stretch. I would say 90% of my fish come from dipsys. I am also curious what your leader length is between dipsy and flasher, I always keep it about the length of my dipsy rod (10ft). I have mine set on a 2.5 setting I usually only run 2 dipsy's though.
  21. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8-31 Time on Water:3hrs Weather/Temp:80's Wind Speed/Direction:south wind light Waves: less than 1 ft Surface Temp: Location:oswego out in front LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 2 Total Boated:2 Species Breakdown:kings Hot Lure: greasy chicken/goby live fly and white green dots/ mirage fly Trolling Speed: 2.0-3.0 Down Speed: 1.8-2.6 Boat Depth: 100-120 Lure Depth: 50-80 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== I'm a few days late with this report but I have been working, I took the family out for a few hours wed night and only ran three rods with one dipsy and 2 downriggers, I got the first hit in ten minutes on the dipsy out 200ft then landed that one with the help of my 12 year old son as the net man it took a great deal of time though because he couldn't figure out how to scoop up the fish it was very funny too watch him and my 14 year old daughter was driving the boat (in circles the whole time lol) then at 7ish as I was getting ready to leave I hooked the second one on a down rigger down 50ft then my son and daughter switched jobs the funny thing was that my son drove the boat way better than my daughter and my daughter instantly was able to net the fish. Now I know what to do with them next time, I wanted them to catch the fish but they were both afraid they couldn't handle it maybe next time. Here is the second fish it had a little color to it the first was still silver. p.s If anyone was around and saw a crazy boater driving in circles for a little while sorry about that(kids in training).
  22. I know how you feel flybuster that's all I can think about and I just got a yellow lab last year he just turned 1 so I have a lot of training to do but nothing is as good as the real field training. I can't wait for sept. 1st, i'm all stocked up and ready to go. I got plenty of shells and a new bennelli I just need some birds to shoot at.
  23. Great recipe my father said it was the best smoked fish he ever had and my friends!! Thanks for sharing it with us.
