  1. You definetly want to get your fish finder first before the temp. probe even as valuable a tool that the probe is you do not want to be dropping it down without knowing what depth you are in and risk loosing a couple hundred dollar unit. This time of year in order to find the right temp you may have to drop down to over a hundred feet to find it if your in 90 fow you wont find that right temp you will most certainly find the bottom though looking for a good temp and possibly loose your temp. probe.
  2. Just take a few hot dog buns with you next time and as you reel in have someone hold the bun on the line untill its full then add ketchup!! Yum! [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  3. jekyll you were able to put 100 yards of mono on before the wire? Just wanted to make sure before i wind it up and want to make sure the reel is full [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  4. Do you need backing line on an okuma convector 30D when using 1000ft of 30lb wire? I can't seem to remember if I had to put it on my other reels.
  5. I believe that chart is based on using mono as a main line. Its considerably different using wire. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  6. I used to have a lot of problems with the cannon balls not tracking good and they tend to have problems with having more blowback then I switched to the 13lb torpedo weights and problem solved no more problems. Also switching to a blacks type release allows the weights to move freely in currents and turns without throwing your lures all over and getting tangles. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  7. what pound line are you using? As long as you use 30lb or heavier you wont have many on they have a hard time clinging on to the thicker line. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  8. Thats very true!!! Two years ago I lost one of my favorite set-ups to a screamer then about ten minutes later I saw a fish floating and sure enough there was the fish with my flasher and fly in its mouth it ended up being a huge coho.
  9. Where did you get that chart that seems to be a lot closer to where my dipsy's are running, when I use the 3 to 1 I hit bottom when I should have been a lot higher up. Thanks for that info. Makes more sense.
  10. Yeah I forgot to add the part about the flasher after the dipsy leader
  11. Use wire, mono is terrible it's very hard to release the dipsy and you can't get as deep as wire plus wire has better hook-up rate due to no stretch. Run wire directly to dipsy, then a good strong section of mono or floro thats at least 40 lbs after the dipsy. I use 45lb floro leader line about the length of your dipsy rod, (works great and will not break), so mine is 9 1/2 foot aprox. Then attatch fly to the end with a very good swivel. 21 inch fly leader measure from end of hooks to end of leader. That should get you started after that you can play with different lengths. There are many topics in here on this type it in the search and you will find all you want on this, but this is how I do it. You do not need a snubber as long as you have a good strong leader to your dipsy.
  12. Yeah im sure that fishhawk td would tell ya but im not willing to spend the money for it right now I have a lot invested in other things already this year. Just spent a bunch on rod holders last week
  13. Thats good info, I was setting up at a little slow speed (friend driving boat) was deploying temp. probe at the time but down speed was mainly 1.8-2.6 all day I would say it did happen while heading more with the current, I don't believe it happened against the current but either direction I basically tried to keep the same range down speed. I couldn't find the fish so I was all over with depths and speeds. Oswego was very slow for me yesterday but better for others. I was alone out there except for 2 boats way away from me from 10am till 3pm.
  14. Let me know how that comes out Ray im curious of that myself
  15. I was out yesterday trolling with my wire rods and I had them out 270ft on a 2.5 setting in 110 fow and I was dragging bottom?????? A few weeks ago I was fishing the same depth for lakers out 290 to 300 ft of wire and never touched bottom, any thoughts as to why any one? The only difference was yesterday it was choppy with about 2 footers. The other days it was calm. Using the basic 3 to 1 ratio for wire I figured I should be 100 feet down for 300 ft of wire (30lb). The only thing I could think of is maybe with the wave action up and down it may have caused it to dive deeper?
  16. I fished osmego today for 6hrs from 80 to 200 fow never got a hit till the end just a small lake trout that i pulled around on a down rigger that I found when i was packing up. I tried all speeds and depths not much bait today. Just coudnt seem to get it together today. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  17. That's great news!! The bite always seems to be good when I have to work or when I am getting boat repairs done!! I can't wait to get out next week.
  18. I have not heard of any reports from Oswego on here in a while just wondering if any one was fishing there? Seems as though all the action is west right now. Can't wait till the kings come back here.
  19. Can these rod holders handle dipsy rods ok?
  20. You gonna have a real tough time selling this as a whole you might want to think about seperating things and I think you might sell it all a lot faster.
  21. I was out today west of the nuke plant I had 5 fish on that i think were all lake trout thats what i was targeting anyway because they seem to be one of the only fairly reliable fish right now but only landed one and lost one at the boat and the others were only on a short time. I fished 115 to 130 fow. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  22. Are the mounting tracks required when using those cannon rod holders? They do look pretty nice I think I might have to try those.
