Fished BOQ with Mr walleyes and the boys and caught about 20 total on Saturday after the big blow but did better on Sunday with everyone limiting out early. Moved to The SLR on Monday and Tuesday and caught 3 on Monday in North wind and 7 on Tuesday morning. Fun weekend with great friends. Got home after filleting fish and pick some asparagus. I love May! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I had a great day today. This morning I shot a turkey and a coyote came in and grabbed it and try to steal it. This afternoon I fished a local lake and caught a nice limit of crappies. Great start for May. I taught school for 33 years and at times coached 3 varsity sports. My kids also each played 3 sports so I understand family issues. Looking back I wonder how I fit in as much hunting and fishing as I did. Now it's hunt or fish 4-5 days a week interrupted by frequent visits to NJ to visit my kids and grandkids. I'm truly blessed!!!! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

Incredible day! After having a coyote try to steal the turkey I shot this morning I decided to hit a local lake for crappies. Largest was 13" and a bunch 11-12"! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Just when I was considering leaving due to wind and rain I saw 3 turkeys at far end of the field. Looked to my right and there were 2 more much closer closing on my decoy. Two came right in and I shot one but other two birds kept coming my way so I stayed in the blind not wanting to spook the other birds. Immediately after I took this photo, a coyote appeared and ran up and grabbed my turkey and started dragging it away! I had to shout and move to get it to drop the bird. I almost shot it but was trying to get a video. The other birds spooked so now the field was empty. Wish I could have videoed the whole thing or shot the coyote but what a story to tell. Only 2 days till I'll be fishing in Bay of Quinte with Mr Walleye and friends for the weekend walleye opener. Then on Monday will be fishing below Cardinal Ontario on the SLR for a couple days. After that will likely be hitting Sackets and Chaumont. All this while trying to locate a turkey which thus far has eluded me. Wish May was a longer month as I'll also be hitting Cape Cod for sea bass and stripers, crappie and bullhead fishing , and fly fishing the St Regis. So many choices but fortunately I'm retired! Thoughts on turkey numbers in Northern NY

Had a hen come right to my Jake decoy and we were calling back and forth. Unfortunately the toms that were in the area yesterday were not around today. Got some video but don't know how to post it. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app -

Well, opening morning and after not seeing much while scouting I had a couple birds gobbling on the roost. Unfortunately after fly down they headed the other direction so I moved my blind for tomorrow morning hunt. Went back toward my car and set up and had two birds come in. They returned two more times and one had a very small beard and I let him walk. Also saw several deer and it was a beautiful morning to be out. Mr. walleye got a tom this morning as did another friend of mine. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United -
Fish a large SLR bay midday today. Fished in 6 fow which was pretty clear and perch were visible everywhere. Needed to sort but still some nice fish. Ended up with just over 6 lbs. of fillets Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Fished with ProfT and Mr Walleye out of Mexico Point. Ran west and found cold clear water (39 -40 degree) and no fish so ran back to Mexico launch where water had color and was 43 degrees but no fish. Ran to Selkirk and hit a 5.2 pounder on rigger in 10 fow. Water was muddy and 43-44 degrees. Stayed in that area and did't move a rod fishing from 7-18 fow. Trolled back toward the ramp with no success so moved out into 20 fow and hit an 8.2 pounder on a bay rat near the surface. Could not find any pattern so called it a day after putting in 6 hours. Others we talked to also had a slow day. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Looks like Kring's is about done. Still plenty of perch but size has decreased significantly. Still managed a half pail in a few hours yesterday but lots of sorting. Time to hit the Lake for Browns tomorrow and try some other spots for perch. Also crappies and bullheads should be available soon. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

Took a scouting ride this morning. Historically I'd see 6 or 7 groups of birds strutting in the fields on this short drive. This morning nothing but some deer!!!!! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United -

I scouted the farm I hunt and there was one gobbling on normal roost. I hung out and there were 4 hens, 2 jakes, and a Tom. Saw a single bird in another good spot. At least a few around to chase. I'll be setting a couple blinds very soon. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United -
Just wondering what others were seeing for numbers this spring. Although I haven't been actively scouting due to the awful weather, my general observation is that the bird level is down significantly in my area( northern Jefferson county). Perhaps it is due to the wet summer we had last year or maybe this snowy March and April has them behaving unusually. Anyway, areas that have always had birds seem to have fewer this year. I will be doing more serious scouting this week with the nicer weather. Also, good luck to the youth hunters this weekend! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app

ProfT and I fished this morning and perch are still bitting. Less large females and more males so it will likely be over by next week. I caught 3/4 of a pail, mostly 8 1/2-10". Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

Fished with ProfT and Mr Walleye and we each caught 3/4 of a pail on nice perch. Fished in 7 1/2 fow with minnows or perch eyes with plastic. I froze 5 1/2 lbs. of fillets myself. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
