Mark trolling runs on gps in daylight and return to fish at night. Fish have been in 25-40 fow. Catching some on deep diving cranks and some on stick baits with weight or downriggers. Lately been catching smaller fish 19-22". Troll slowly into current. Can also catch them on bucktails jigs and jigging spoons drifting slowly with the current. Boat control is extremely important in all applications. Been catching them regularly all summer and still are biting well. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

Black River and Chaumont River both have significant spawning. They have already put gravel in Chaumont to improve spawning success. I'm also certain that many of the lake walleyes migrate to Quinte and spawn their tributaries. He also believe that since perch and walleye spawn early (March/April) the gobies are still in deep water and don't have the same affect as on the bass which spawn much latter (May/June) That leads to better recruitment for the walleye and perch and a decrease in bass numbers. After discussion this with fishery biologists I find that they feel the walleye population is doing well with fish of all age classes present. However, they are unsure of where river fish are spawning. They also said if spawning site could be identified adding gravel to these sites can greatly improve spawning success. That type of habitat improvement has been shown to be very successful in other areas. He didn't believe any change in regulations was needed at this time and didn't believe that over harvesting was an issue with current regulations. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

The are places where the current is ripping and we generally fish in fairly heavy current. Hold into the current with trolling motor when using jigging spoons or bucktails to keep line vertical as possible. Have caught them with dipseys, down riggers, and bottom bouncers when trolling against the current. Floating weeds have resent lay been an issue. Changes in depths and current do make trolling a challenge but it is effective if you can keep lures near the bottom. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

I fish the River 3-4 times a week and have caught walleyes every trip but one for the last two years. Walleyes are available May- until ice up but it's not an easy fishery to learn. You need to pay your dues with lost gear and time on the water. I believe walleyes are abundant from Cape Vincent to Massena. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

ProfT and I were fortunate to end the early goose season with a hunt on Eric Fonda's farm with Eric and Gabe. Four man limit! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

When Gander was going out of business they had a 40% off sale. At the same time Federal had a $7.50 rebait. I ended up picking up 30 boxes of Black Cloud at $6.49 a box! Much of what meat I process I do myself. The big expense is the broken teeth on steel shot. 4 crowns so far! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

We eat them all. Make jerky, corned goose, pastrami, can them, goose sticks, breakfast and Italian sausage, grill them, pepperoni, ring Bologna , summer sausage. I even take the leg and thigh meat which many hunters don't take. They want these resident birds shot thus the large limits and no plugs etc. This wasn't even a five man limit! Many home owners and farmers wan't us to hunt them. Also very few if any migratory birds in this area with the warm fall weather. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

John, I agree. We saw the crappie population drop when you could sell them and there was no limits. Now with limits they seem to have rebounded. I often wonder about no limits on perch in Jefferson county. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

Just had a talk with Steve LaPan (fisheries biologist) and he said another walleye was found upriver with this problem. He is hoping these are isolated cases and not a widespread issue. None have been found in their netting research. He thinks the SLR walleye population is thriving but not a great deal is know about where they are spawning on the river. Anyone have any ideas on possible upriver spawning sites other than Black River and Chamount River? Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

Well sometimes it works out as planned. Gabe and I each limited out and geese were landing in the decoys when we picked up. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
