Took a break from the walleyes to visit my brother for the Black Sea bass opener and wasn't disappointed. We had are 3 person limit in 1 1/2 hours plus a nice tatog. Conditions were rough with the tide and the wind but we did great. They rival any fish as table fair! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I cut their gills with scissors while in the live well before I run in. After running in I drain the bloody water from the live well. If I'm not going to fillet them right away I then put them on ice. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

I run two riggers and 6 or 7 boards on my 18 foot Lund Alaskan. Often times I run sticks on one side and spoons on the other side until they tell me what they want. Also have been running some lead cores 2 or 3 colors in the mix. Often place spit shot 3-4' ahead of lure to get a little more depth. Generally run Stinger and R+R spoons and Smithwick, Bomber, Storms, BayRats stick baits and jointed rapalas. Change up colors running chartreuse or firetiger early and naturals later in the day. Also change up speeds 1.8-2.4 mph and leads 60-150'. Running many lures allows you to experiment with color, size, and style of lures and vary led lengths to fine tune you presentation which can change by the hour. The downside is it can lead to tangles and boat traffic can make thing interesting. If traffic is very bad I sometimes shorten leads and reduce rods but often just move away from other boats. I use a similar approach on walleyes but decrease speed and run few spoons and more sticks. Personally I have had a little better luck with spoons for Browns. ProT and I bleed them and remove all brown meat and everyone we cook them for or give them to love them. Even the big ones! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

We had them gobbling all around us this morning and had a big Tom come in just out of range. Decided to have her take this one as I don't get her to come out too often. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I don't fillet unless they are big. I actually like the small ones better to eat. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

I was wondering if there is any information on speed or wake restrictions due to elevated water levels throughout New York State. Don't want to be running in my boat if there are restrictions in place. I have heard certain areas have no wake or maximum speeds of 5 mph with 500 feet of shoreline. Anyone have any information before Saturday's walleye opener?

I believe the high water will help the pike spawn as they will be able to get up into the cattail marshes where they often spawn. These marshes have gradually filled in and do not allow access for spawning. That was one reason for the 2014 plan. This high water is due to excessive rain this spring but should have a beneficial effect. I believe the eggs will be hatched by the time water drops significantly and after that the fry can move with lower water levels. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

I agree if you have Navionics chip you should have no problems. The SLR is a great fishery although bass and northern population are somewhat down in numbers there are some nice sized fish. The walleye fishing can be spectacular but is mostly a night bite which makes it harder for newbie to the area. Mid August is a very good time to fish this area. If your going to fish at night simple fish during spots that look good during the day and mark waypoints or routes and return at night. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

Kevin J Legg replied to Kevin J Legg's topic in Waterfowl / Bird Game
Number 1 bird had 7 beards. It's spur and weight were also big and yes it blew everything in NY away. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United -
Had 3 jakes come that I passed on, shortly followed by 3 toms. Nice bird with 9 1/2" beard but nothing like yesterdays tom. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Final measurements and photos of 4 beard gobbler
Kevin J Legg replied to Kevin J Legg's topic in Waterfowl / Bird Game
I tried to calculate a score and came up with 91.26. Never really knew they recorded this so after measuring as best I could I dressed him out and took the tail and beards to the taxidermist for a fan, beard mount. Could this possibly have been a top 30 bird in NYS if officially scored by NWTF? Not sure of my scoring or the records. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United -
