  1. Registration for the tournament has been extended to Friday during packet pick-up 6-8PM at Screwy Louies. Those who have downloaded prior information about the tournament - everything is the same except that you must register in person at Screwy Louies and do it in cash (same as the Fair Haven Challenge registration) by the Sunday prior. You can call and commit to entering the event by the Friday prior and pay in cash at the packet pick-up. The Fair Haven 321 Tournament for May 16 and 17 is fast approaching. If you are interested you can download the information from the attachment and register in person at Screwy Louies in Fair Haven. This is a way to raise some funds for the net pen project while having a little fun competition. 321 Fair Haven Tournament.pdf
  2. The fish are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday at 11:00AM at Bayside Marina and Turtle Cove Marina. If you are around to help out or even to watch please come - it is a unique event. We need volunteers to sign up to feed the fish. There is a calendar at Screwy Louies and people can sign up in person or call the shop 315-947-6348 and let them know when you can do it and they will put your name on the claendar. Fish need to be fed once a day some time between 5 and 8 in the morning. It is really easy with the automatic feeders - bags of food will be located in the tubs near the pens. Simply take a bag of food to the feeder, open the feeder lid, pull back the belt, dump the food onteh belt, close the lid, and the fish are fed for the day.

The Fair Haven Fishing Association is hosting the first Fair Haven 321 tournament. The information and entry form are attached. This is being used as an opportunity to fish a different style tournament and will also benefit the Fair Haven pen project. Please be sure to get your entries in on time and call if you have any questions 315-709-9958.
  5. The pens are in the water. Thank you to all who were able to help out and especially Scott from Bayside marina for him taking time out of his day to help us out and for the use of his equipment to make this one of the smoothest launches to date. Also thanks again to Bayside Marina and Turtle Cove for the use of their docks for the pens. The fish are sceduled to arrive on the 29th at 11:00AM. Anyone available is invited to help out (just seeing it is a neat experience).
  6. Werner "Popeye" has been working hard on this and we have come up with a time for Saturday. We will start to meet at Bayside at 8:00AM to get the pens in the water. If you do not see us by the water we may be on the north side of the property moving the pens down. Scotty has generously put time aside to help us splash them in the water. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated since most of the movement will be from pushing and pulling the pens with waders and ropes due to very low water. We are hoping to have them all in andat their docks within a short time period. The fish will not be arriving until late the following week or the begining of the next. Also, hard copies of Fair Haven Fishing Association materials will be in local shops after this weekend including sign-ups for the Fair Haven tournament. Thanks in advance.
  7. The finishing touches on the new pen will be made this weekend and we are planning on getting the pens in the water next Saturday the 18th and will need help (anyone in the area that weekend is invited to help out and with waders would be a plus). The time will be posted once we check with Scotty from Bayside Marina so that we are not in his way while he is busy splashing boats in the water. Two of the pens will be located at Bayside marina and the third will be located at Turtle Cove marina, restaurant and resort. Scott Prindle of the DEC informed us that the fish will definitely not be arriving until after the 19th, but he cannot give us a tentative date just yet due to the water temperatures dictating when we will get the fish. The exact date and time will be posted as soon as it becomes available. The contact information to help out with the pen stocking will be made with the date being posted. Also, anyone in the area between then and the middle of May please contact Dana Bernetski [email protected] to sign up on the feeding schedule (the feeders only need to be filled once in the morning). Do not forget to sign up for the Fair Haven 321 tournament - download available at the top of the thread and hard copies will be available in Fair Haven establishments by next weekend. We will be sure to keep you posted.
  8. A big thank you to everyone who was able to help out with the pens this past weekend. Both pens were renetted despite the cold temperatures that compromised the zip ties. It was a good time and was nice working with people whom I had only known before by boat handle. As soon as we receive word from the DEC on the fish arrival it will be posted as we will once again need volunteers to help out. Also, make a note on your calendar for the tournament on May 16 and 17 - information is available at the top of this thread with a download and hard copies will be available from Fair Haven businesses by mid April. We concluded the morning by having the first FHFA meeting of the year where financial reports were given as well as information on upcoming events. The other piece of information is donations for the net pen project can be made out to Fair Haven Net Pen Program and sent to Fair Haven Fishing Association, PO Box 373, Fair Haven NY 13064 Also the wounded warrior project is in need of donations and they can be made out to AllAboard FHFA and sent to All Aboard Fair Haven Fishing Association, PO Box 566, Fair Haven NY 13064
  9. Even though the winter has been relentless and there is still a substantial amount of ice (20" according to Bout Time's post) we need to get the pens prepped and ready to go for the fish. We will be working on re-netting the pens this Saturday, March 28, starting at 9:30AM. The pens are located on the northern property of Bayside Marina on the north side of the blue barn. They are both accessible and we hope to be done by 12:30PM. The forecast is for a cold sunny day which is better than the present forecast for Sunday which is calling for showers. If you are able to help out it would be greatly appreciated. Call me (Phil) if you have any questions at 315-709-9958. Thanks in advance. Fair Haven Fishing Association
  10. Even though the winter is not relenting we are still a go for this coming Saturday, March 28th to work on the net pens located on the northern Bayside Marina property on the north side of the blue barn. The two pens are accessible and need to be re-netted. We will be meeting at 9:30AM and hope to be done by 12:30PM. The forecast is that it will be cold and sunny on Saturday. Sunday is supposed to be warmer but it may rain (rather work in cold than cold rain). We figure that this way the nets are done and ready to go (whenever that may be). Anyone in the Fair Haven area willing or able to help out are encouraged to come. If you have any questions please call me (Phil) at 315-709-9958. Thanks in advance. Fair Haven Fishing Association
  11. Good news and more good news. First the State of the Lake meeting, hosted by the Eastern Lake Ontario Salmon and Trout Association ((ELOSTA) was very informative and had good news for Fair Haven. The pen program is definitely working with almost 90% of the salmon released that survive to maturity returning to Fair Haven and the other 10% straying only a short distance on average. The fish raised through the pen program have a 2:1 ratio for survivability to adulthood and contribution to the fishery compared to direct stocked salmon. Due to this information it is very likely that after the study concludes we may receive up to 75% of the salmon allocated to the Fair Haven area. If the numbers stocked remain the same that could mean up to 85,000 salmon in the pens. Also, the DEC personnel are excited to see what our results are this year since we are splitting the salmon into two pens and cutting the fish density in half. Second the snow is melting, the ice is getting darker, and I checked on the pens. Both are just about accessible as of yesterday and should be fully accessible to work on by the 28th - see you there (on the north side of the barn on the north end of Bayside property). Thank you Scotty of Bayside Marina for allowing us to store the pens and working with us on this vital effort. In addition Brain of Turtle Cove (formerly Chinook) will be a part of the pen project and have volunteered additional dock space for us to use. They are doing a lot of renovations and hope to have the restaurant serving both breakfast and dinner by the end of May. They will also be the site of the awards ceremonies for the two Fair Haven 321 Tournaments and the location of our general meetings. Check out their website to follow their progress at www.turtlecoveresort.com The final piece of information is that after review and comments on the Fair Haven 321 Tournaments, the weigh-in will be at Screwy Louies to make it easier for vehicles with boats in tow to get in and out without turn around problems while trying to make the weigh in time deadline. In addition there were valid concerns that the traffic may unfairly deter patrons to the Turtle Cove Restaurant. Note that the awards ceremony will still occur on the Sunday of each tournament at Turtle Cove.
  12. I won't be able to make it this year, but my daughter will be there with my money. She is excited to spend it and I am equally excited to see what she comes home with - it will be like Christmas when I see her I am sure. She also said she will teach me what she learns from Captain Pete.
  13. The new pen is complete and ready to be delivered - this brings us to three pens for Fair Haven. The third pen will allow us to lower the density of the Kings to promote additional growth and less crowding this year and once the pen study concludes we are ready to receive more fish in the Fair Haven pen program from the DEC. We have a work weekend scheduled for the last Saturday and if need be Sunday of March at Bayside Marina. Anyone wanting to venture up to FH to help out or who will be prepping thier boats and camps who can spare some time are invited to help re-net the other two pens. As we get closer I will be sure to post an update based on snow which may not allow us to access the pens at that time. We will also have our first meeting on the Saturday of the work weekend. Hopefully we get a warming trend. Thanks to all of those who have donated to the pen project in the past in time and money and to those who continue to help. Phil
  14. Yes All of the information is in the attached PDF file at the top post May 16 and 17 July 18 and 19 Thanks Phil Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. For those looking at how many people have downloaded the files so far you will note that the Fair Haven tournament file has been re-uploaded due to a grammatical spelling error. Your download is valid as it was - just needed to fix a spelling mistake. So far 13 people have downloaded the tournament plus whatever number this corrected file climbs to. Thanks Phil
  16. Here are some attachments concerning the Fair Haven Fishing Association. Please try to volunteer when you can or are in town to try to keep us moving in a positive direction as a fishing community. Sign up for email notifications of events and general information by emailing [email protected] with FHFA in the heading. I will forward them to the secretary as well. I have also listed where donations can be made to the two seperate accounts held for the two main functions of the Fair Haven Fishing Association (net pen project and wounded warrior project in the attachment). Photos and information from last years wounded warrior weekend can be viewed at www.facebook.com/AllAboardFHFA If you have any questions please contact me at [email protected] Thanks Phil FAIR HAVEN FISHING ASSOCIATION notice to the public.pdf 321 Fair Haven Tournament.pdf
  17. Great to see that we will have people involved. A schedule of events (net pen project, tournaments, wounded warriors, meetings), informaiton on how to sign up to recieve emails, donation information, etc... should be posted within the next two weeks. Thank you to all of the Fair Haven Fishermen that will be stepping up to improve the fishery and the experience within Fair Haven. Please watch for information on this site. I am awaiting some feedback and am trying to solidify some things before posting to avoid changes and misinformation. Thanks Phil
  18. We are looking forward to helping improve the fishery and fishing experience out of Fair Haven. At this point the officers will be getting in contact with each other and setting up a tentative schedule for the year in terms of meetings, work days (net pen work, fish arrival day work, fish stocking work, sign up for feeding and cleaning the pens, wounded warrior weekend help, and possibly Fair Haven fishing derbies/tournaments out of and back to Fair Haven). As information becomes available this will be the primary place that it will be posted. Anyone interested in helping improve the Fair Haven fishing further please look often and information will be made available as to how to get involved - it is the only way to make this work. This is new to all but one officer and it is in a state of progressive evolution for us so please keep that in mind. A big thank you to all of the guys and gals that started the association from the ground up and got it to this point. Sincerely, Phil Lucason
  19. A big thank you to all of the anglers out of Fair Haven who helped the boats with the Wounded Warriors on board with real time information that lead to more fish on the rods for these men and women. All of the information on color, depth, lure type, speed, and the information on where there was a heavy temp break helped out tremendously. It was a huge success and a true community effort (on and off the water). The fish boards and tables at Anchor Marina and Resort were to capacity and were surrounded by many smiling faces. Anyone planning for next years event - the soldiers arrive on June 19th and will be fishing on June 20th. On June 21st we will be hosting the "special kids" fishing on the bay. Help or donations for either or both of the days is greatly appreciated. Anyone looking to be involved next year directly or who wishes to donate to next years event can contact Cindy at 845-665-4119 or Allen at 315-529-2126.
  20. I am placing a copy of the email I recieved in case people are looking to help out with this ongoing event that has doubled in size (number of soldiers) this year. Anyone can contribute in many ways, such as showing support at the parade on Friday evening honoring these men and women, or if you are out on the water on the Saturday and happen upon a hot setup and are willing to let the boats know so that we can put a few more fish on the lines for these guys (channel 72) it would be greatly appreciated, or you can make a monetary or items donation. The contact information is located at the end of the email that was sent out. Thanks Fair Haven, NY. The Fair Haven Fishing Association is hosting the 9th annual All Aboard Fishing Weekend Friday June 20 - Sunday June 22. This is the 9th year for Kids -- children with special needs -- and our 6th Fair Haven Wounded Warriors fishing event for our military personnel. 20 plus Kids from Fair Haven and the surrounding area and 25 Fort Drum soldiers in the Warrior Transition Program and with special needs will join us this year. The Wounded Warriors arrive Friday in Fair Haven at 3 pm and take in some activities at Anchor Resort and Marina. At 6 pm (PARADE) they are escorted to the American Legion by the FH Fire Department, Hannibal Legion riders, cub scout pack 885 and others (we've had many residents and visitors line Main Street to thank our service members). At 5:30 AM Saturday the WW anglers head out for salmon fishing on several association charter boats and when they come back with their fish and stories, the association captains and volunteers have a BBQ ready to top off the day. On Sunday, the action starts again with our Special Kids. We take them out for bass and panfish in the bay. The "competition" between the association member boats is fierce for the most and largest fish. Their day is capped off by another BBQ but it's not uncommon for many of the kids to fish off the docks at Anchor Resort and Marina with the fishing rod/reel combo given to them before they head back home. If you can assist with a monetary donation, it will help us provide the kids with a fishing equipment and give each Wounded Warriors a cooler stuffed with an assortment of gifts. Last year each WW was given a framed personal photograph of their fishing day, a trophy created and donated by a A-1 Trophies, (Syracuse) and combo tools, flashlights, DVD's, various sundries, etc. - we hope to fill the bag again this year Please send your donation to FHFA, PO Box 566, Fair Haven, NY 13064 or drop off your donation to Anchor Resort and Marina. Please send us an email to [email protected] letting us know what you are sending or donating so we can plan accordingly. Thank you. Alan Avrich Cyndi Borozny Linda Drogi Jim Jared Larry Knoll "All Aboard Project" Committee" www.facebook.com/allaboardfhfa We need your help! Please consider sponsoring a Kid or Wounded Warrior or both. $15, $25 or more. Please make checks out to: FHFA All Aboard FHFA PO Box 566 Fair Haven,NY13064 315-529-2126
