  1. If you have any pictures from this past weekend's event, please post as well.
  2. Thank you to everyone who made this past weekend a success. The weather was good, the fishing was tough but everyone returned with smiles and experiences that they would not have had without all of you, and on Sunday the "special" kids had a lot of fun on the bay. First Fish Award went to Captain Werner and Crew of Popeye Largest Brown Trout went to Captain Aaron Dingy and Crew of Playin Hookey Largest Salmon award went to Captain Ed Derry and Crew of Landing Craft I will be posting some pictures as I get them so that others can see what went on this past weekend. We are already planning for next year (2016) June 17,18, and 19.
  3. We just received word that 42 veterans are signed up to come to FH this Friday and Saturday. We presently have 15 boats signed up to help out with this effort. See the above post for how you can help out with this community thank you to those who have given so much for us all. Attached please find an itinerary for the two days with the veterans. Itinerary for those involved with the Fair Haven WW effort hosted.pdf
  4. We just got word that Fair Haven will be hosting over thirty veterans this coming weekend. A big thank you to all who are helping make this experience a success. Now say a few extra prayers that the weather is good and the fish are biting.
  5. If every kid had good parents like this what a difference it would make - nice job Dad, she will be your forever little girl and by the looks of it fishing partner as well. Congratulations!
  6. Fair Haven is hosting special needs kids on Sunday morning to try to catch fish while drowning some worms in the bay. If you happen to see some of these boats with kids on board feel free to give some toots of the horns and big waves. For almost all of them it will be their first experience on a boat and for others the first time they have held a fishing pole.
  7. Come join us on the water and help put fish on the lines for these men and women. If you are fishing out of Fair Haven and happen to come into a program that is working for you (color, speed, depth, direction etc...) give a shout out on channel 72 and you may put some extra smiles on the faces of Fair Haven's honored guests. Last year fellow fishermen who did not have veterans on their boats shared information that made some extra rods wiggle and created more smiles. Our Veterans will be on the water from approximately 6:00AM through Noon.
  8. A small parade honoring the veterans who are attending this years Wounded Warrior Project out of Fair Haven will occur through the village at or near 6:00PM. If you are in the area please come out and show your support.
  9. Fair Haven will be hosting Wounded Warriors and Special Needs kids on June 19th through the 21st out of Anchor Resort and Marina. It is run through the All Aboard Fair Haven Fishing Association and has grown over the years. This year Fair Haven is anticipating 24 - 30 veterans and another 24 - 30 kids. The veterans coming this year range from recent wounded enlisties to a possible World War II Veteran. They will be arriving Friday and there will be a village parade honoring them at 6:00PM. Local businesses are playing a big part in this effort with donated facilities, rooms, and cabins for them to stay in and helping to supply meals. This is a true community effort (near and far - donations from as far away as a fire company in Ogdensburg NJ, Florida, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire) and everyone is trying to give what they can to make it another special event. The veterans arrive Friday and are able to fish off of the docks at Anchor Marina and relax by the water for the afternoon. Then at 6:00 the local fire station crew, Veterans, Freedom Riders, Car Club, and Captains proceed through the town to the American Legion where the guests of honor are treated to a full dinner. They then head back to Anchor to hang out, fish, cook marshmallows, etc... until they retire for the evening. On Saturday they meet at Anchor for a breakfast donated by stores and establishments in town and are given a goody tray for the boat. They are then broken up into small groups of 2-3 and will spend the morning with various captains who are donating their time and boats trying to hook into a "big" one. Upon returning to Anchor they are treated to a chicken barbeque and are publicly thanked for all that they have done and are presented with gifts of appreciation before they depart from Fair Haven. On Sunday morning a group of children from various organizations come to Fair Haven and meet at Anchor for some light snacks before heading out on the bay to drown some worms in hopes of having their rods wiggle. For many of these kids it is their first time on a boat and holding a rod in their hands. After a few hours of fishing on the bay they return to Anchor and are treated to a kids barbeque. Each kid is able to take their rod home with them in hopes that they use them again. We need your help / what you can do. If you will be in Fair Haven Friday evening try to make it to Main Street for the parade at 6:00PM. If you are going to be fishing out of Fair Haven on Saturday you can help put additional fish in the boats for these veterans. If you happen to get a program working (speed, direction, color, depth etc..) please share it on the radio, channel 72. Last year we had people help out with information and it resulted in more rods wiggling and more smiles on the boats. If you are thinking about heading to FH to fish this would be that other reason to do so. We will be out with the veterans from 6 to noon. If you are not going to be able to fish on Saturday or want to help out in an additional way, money is needed to secure additional rooms and gifts of appreciation for these veterans who have served us all, as well as enough rods for each of the kids to use and take home. Any checks can be made out to AllAboard FHFA (just as it is typed without a space) and dropped off at Anchor Resort and Marina or Screwy Louies Sportshop or mailed to: AllAboard Fair Haven Fishing Association PO Box 566 Fair Haven NY 13064 Thank you in advance for your support of this effort and thanks to Alan Avrich and Cindy Borozny for their efforts organizing this event.
  10. until
Registration can be done at Screwy Louies Sportshop. The overview of this tournament is that it is a two day tournament with the weight of three fish caught and weighed in over the two days equaling a team's score. This is an in and out of Fair Haven tournament. Screwy Louies can be reached at 315-947-6348. If you have questions about the tournament or rules please call 315-709-9958.
  11. We designed the 321 so that it should not compete with the Pro-Am. Some of the reasoning and differences are highlighted below: the same weekend tends to be the slowest in the summer in Fair Haven so people have a better chance of finding reservations Low entry fee (lower prize money as a result compared to Pro Am) only 3 fish over 2 days can be weighed in with no points per fish (only total weight) which gives everyone a shot at winning from novice to professional The Pro-Am is a great tournament and draws a competetive crowd who are dedicated to the tournament series - this is for the other folks who are not interested in the Pro AM (for whatever personal reason - i.e travel, fees, etc...), who never leave the Port of Fair Haven, or who might be in or coming to the FH area. If you have any questions download the pdf file or PM me.
  12. Here is a picture of Werner "Popeye" with some volunteers on board taking the fish to the lake through the chute. Thanks again to everyone who helped out in some way with this effort this season. Also a thank you to Chris Drogi and Jim Jared for spearheading the pen project in Fair Haven many years ago.
  13. Fishing out of Fair Haven this past weekend was touch and go. I had my two parents on baord for the FH 321 tournament while my 2 daughters were fishing with Joe "Windtunnel". On Saturday I had hoped that the rain would have muddied the water a little to the west and powered out that way setting up in 15' of water with the usual sticks and spoons. We worked our way in by Black creek swamp to shallow water and had 2 hits and misses on a nuclear pickel stick and my daughter's stoplight spoon (orange and green). After seeing no color and seeing no action on other boats (almost to Port Bay) we turned out for deeper water to see what we could find. We were thinking of running to the laker area off of the chute and slightly east, but were afraid of passing up fish along the way so we trolled our way over (big mistake). Joe and my girls were having nonstop action on the lakers in 80 - 130 feet of water bouncing the bottom and we got into it when we finally got over there with a one hour time frame left to fish and still get in through the chute to make weigh in for the tournament. The girls and Joe only kept 2 bleeders and one that they would use to weigh in at 11lbs 12oz. Our biggest was 7lbs and 9oz. We heard that there was a big box weighed in for the tournament and had our work cut out to have any chance the next day. My parents and I headed east and found an area of warmer water that we worked and worked and then right before the fog rolled in my mother hooked into a great acrobatic steelhead that went in the net and the hook popped out. A little while later my father fought his first spring king (he usually does not go out in the spring because he gets cold very easy) and put it in the box at just shy of 11lbs. Both came off of dipsies with stoplights. We had a couple more tugs but then we were concerned about how thick the fog was so we had to abandon the area to make our way back to the chute to get in before 1:30. Unfortunately, the girls and Joe did not have the luck they were having the day prior and were also concerned about the thick fog so headed back for safety reasons (they almost got t-boned by a speedboat near the chute who was on plane in the fog). They had a great time though talking about what they were going to use and planning out the days - having breakfast at Turtle Cove with Joe before fishing each day did not hurt their experience either. Congratulations to Gray Fox for their win in the tournament with a huge box - great guys to boot. All in all it was a good weekend and the 321 tournament was a success. We are looking forward to the July 321 tournament on July 18 and 19 and more information can be found on the tournament talk link.
  14. After a successful May tournament we decided to make a few changes based on suggestions that made a lot of sense, simplify the tournament, and to clarify some of the rules that had some interpretation questions. We are looking forward to the July tournament and some big boxes to come in. Please download the attached file if you are interested in participating. This is a fun way to raise some money for the net pen project while having some friendly competition. Registration needs to be done in person at Screwy Louie's Sportshop. Thank you in advance for your support and particiaption. 321 Fair Haven Tournament Final.pdf
  15. Team Gray Fox Captained by Reese Scott won the Fair Haven 321 3 fish tournament with a total weight of just shy of 48 pounds. They caught over 20 salmon on Saturday and weighed all three of their fish in as well as the big fish of the tournament at 17 lbs 11 oz. Thank you to all of those who participated and to everyone who helped make this a success. The next Fair Haven 321 tournament is July 18 & 19. Sign up at Screwy Louie's sport shop.
  16. The fish are ready to go out as the temperature has hit 62 on the surface and their 3 week period in the pens comes to a close. Over the past three weeks there have only been 10 dead salmon and 1 dead steelhead. Werner "Popeye" is coordinating the release based on weather conditions. Thanks again to Turtle Cove and Bayside Marina for their support in the effort as well as to all of the people who helped with the feeding and project itself.
  17. That is what I have been running on my boat now for a few years and love it. This is Phil - I am up quite a lot for the rest of the season - give me a call (I think you have my number - if not PM me) and check it out. I am running it on a Honda 15hp. Also customer service is great - have had some questions over the years and they are always happy to help out and last year the hydraulic pump went and they had a new one in the mail the same day. Looking forward to seeing you again.
  18. Registration for the 321 tournament on May 16 and 17 has been extended to Friday. Please call Screwy Louies for more information or to sign up. Packet pick-up is on Friday at Screwy Louies form 6PM - 8PM. This is a fun way to help raise money for the net pen project.
  19. If you are in the area of Fair Haven and are interested in feeding the fish please contact Screwy Louies 315-947-6348 and sign up. We still have open dates for feeding. So far we have only lost a total of 8 fish out of ~31,000. The temps went up this past week, but were dropping as of this morning which means the fish in Fair Haven should be in the pens for at least another week and then some. They are all feeding well on bugs all day as well as the feed that we give them and they are growing fast. The pens are located at Bayside Marina and Turtle Cove restaurant, marina and cabins - if you are in the area be sure to check them out and thank the owners for supporting the pen project. Also the registration for the 321 tournament for May 16 and 17th has been extended through Friday to help increase participation. Packet pick-up is Friday from 6-8 at Screwy Louies. Call them for more information 315-947-6348. Also visit the tournament talk link for more information.
  20. New regulations have pretty much killed the haddock and cod fishing, but stripers and blue fish, as well as sea bass should be active. Lots of good charters to choose from and they all pretty much use the same stuff and go to the same areas. The only one I am familiar with for the inshore fishing is Doubled-up Charters - I am sure that there are many other good ones, but I can only attest to this one. Friends have gone with him and have had a great time. Hope this helps.
  21. Lots of fun - especially for kids (old and young). Been doing it for a few years now and the biggest thing is to figure out how many you will need ahead of time because it is very easy to catch more than you could ever use. Then ask friends if they need bait and go back out. There are guys that do it on the open lake, but we use blow off days in the bay to catch alewives - just find the depth with the heaviest schools and then anchor in the depth and they will come. One other tip that works for us is to use a one ounce sinker on the bottom of the sabiki rig to make it easier to keep everything tight - especially for beginners. We brine all of ours using the over the counter stuff for color and UV enhancers and then add more non-iodized salt or Sea Salt to firm them up just a bit more. Lasts like the old stuff used to. Hope this helps.
  22. Here are some pictures of the fish arriving this past Wednesday. Anyone interested or able to feed the fish please call Screwy Louies Sportshop at 315-947-6348. Thanks
  23. They are May 16 and 17 We will also be having one in July on the 18th and 19th Best of luck when you are out on the water - lots of brwons - just have to sort through the smaller ones - sticks outfishing spoons so far, but that could change once they move to the 10 - 15 foot zone
