Legacy just posted one (with a bunch of other choices).

Synergy - the total is greater than the sum of the parts. I fished with Rob this year (see his 4/30 report) and he was great, working eight rods firing faster than he could get them reset.

It was down to just a couple inches over the three or four feet closest to shore. I was fine walking through in my hiking boots Sunday morning. Both I-Bay and Sandy have standard red/green buoys marking the channels. I thinking Sandy is at 9ft and I-Bay about 14ft.

Nice report - I'm surprised at the browns this late in the season. I live near the north end and did well late this spring closer to Ellison Park. I have to get out for a little carp fishing after work one of these nights - always fun on a noodle rod with 4 lb test.

Also good on the 4th for firing M80s across the Alleghany Reservoir down by the Kinzua Dam. So I've heard...
-
Pretty similar, actually - it's an older 18 ft aluminum Starcraft (deep v) with a Merc Force 125 and a trolling plate. We can get down to 1.5 but running anywhere from 2.0 to 3.0 takes constant throttle adjustment - we're considering trolling bags. We had a hell of a time Sunday keeping any kind of constant trolling speed - we ran east (ish) with the waves and then NW into them - & turning was scary. With no VHF yet, we didn't want to head deeper.

I think you and I are doing the same reading, at about the same time, on this site (which is terrific, by the way). I think I'm fishing out of a smaller boat though which is going to restrict what we can do. What are you fishing out of?

Chowder mentioned that in one of the other slider threads - "I like to slip a bead on my main line b4 I tie on my snap swivel - that way when the slider gets down there it doesn't fetch up on the swivel and start to wrap."

Read the post "Spiny water fleas" from last year for all the details. They're an invasive species that seriously gum up your gear and they should be showing up within the next week or two.
-
The waves were too much for us. We launched after the rain passed over and made a few passes at 15 & 30 ft with nothing to show for it except one lonely alewife that must have thought it was a trout. Should have stayed in bed...

This will be my first season dealing with them. I have an old pair of Penn 209s on downrigger poles and plan on spooling 20# mono with 150 ft of 30# big game and a flouro leader (based on what I've read here). Do you think the fleas will show up late this year because of the cold weather we've had?

You'll hit 200 feet of water about 2.5 miles off Sandy. It's between 5 and 6 miles off I-Bay or the Genesee.

The old Brown Bag bookstore on Monroe Ave in Rochester recommended them to me years ago when I was searching for something. I guess most of the smaller booksellers list through it rather than have to update their own websites.

If you don't mind it in a fair condition paperback, you can get it for $12.00 plus $4.50 shipping right now, shipped from a bookstore in Idaho. Go to www.abebooks.com and search by Title or Author. A good condition first edition is running $70 to $100.

Thanks for the info, Matt. I have to start shopping for both soon.

Looks like a good radio: http://www.marine-electronics-reviews.c ... 1000s.html. What antenna do you have on the boat?
-
Thanks. I sent a text from out there and it went through but we need VHF. We trailer to Sandy too some weekends - 18ft tan Starcraft with a planer mast in front and a pair of downriggers on the back. We're learning, so if you see us do something stupid, it's not us...
-
How far out is that, by the way? I fish on a buddy's boat & he doesn't have one - which makes me nervous. We were in 150 fow off the Genny last night & was surprised that put us about 4 miles offshore (according to my gps). We trolled passed a 7 ft tree trunk out there...
-
Nice fish. We were out too, NW of the Genesee in 142 fow. Took a small coho on a Orange Tranny spoon and something ripped a treble clean off a white deep diver on the planer. Didn't run like a king but I was having drag issues - maybe a big rainbow?
-
Nice area. I have friends around there (Athol, Chelmsford & Merrimack) but none of them fish. Father-in-law has a great fishing boat in Hingham... which will never see a fish. Unfortunate....

Taking the kayak for a spin?

Nice fish- congratulations.

Nice one - I'll have to try changing the tilt to see what effect it has on our speed. I've noticed that it changes quite a bit when one of us moves from our seat to the stern as well.
