  1. Took dad out since it was only night I was free. At the launch around 3:40. Started in 100’ and went out to 200’. Marked very little expect for fish on the bottom in 70’. Guessing lakers. Did get a nice aerobatic steelhead in 90’ on mag diehard on 55 rigger. Around 6pm decided to head in closer. Lost a laker at back of boat on dipsey/SD/Fly in 45’. I decided to try even closer so I reeled in the dipseys and told my dad to keep heading in closer with just 4 rods and we would bring riggers up as we got shallower. Not 1 minute after saying that the 40 rigger fires and line is screaming. I hand the rod to my dad and it won’t stop screaming. He says “how much line you got on here”. He tightened the drag a little but fish wouldn’t stop. I clear the other 3 lines. Turn boat off and let him battle. After some time the fish finally made it to the boat. Fish was caught on Mag NK black front with yellow tape and white back. My dad thinks this was his biggest fish. Any guesses on weight, I don’t have a scale? After some time the fish was released and swim away. I really enjoy taking my dad out on the boat he bought new in 84’ and taught me how to fish out of. I look every day for a newer boat but this bluefin keeps chugging along and producing memories. My dad said this is what I like about fall. The fish are big. I even let him drive. 2. Took my dad out since it was clam. Called multiple people to try and have a 3rd but everyone was busy. We set up about 4:30pm in 80fow and trolled in and out from 80fow to 150fow. All SD/fly bite. No hits on spoons. Wires 160/180 took 4 fish. 75 rigger took biggest fish. 5 fish in boat and 2 hits with no one home. 3 kings, 1 laker and 1 brown. I was shocked when the 160 wire fires when in 120fow and we reel in a brown trout on a SD/Fly. That was a 1st for me. Supposed to take some fellow firefighters from Long Island out Friday morning but waves heights don’t look good for my 18’. Hoping it changes so I can get them out. They have never been salmon fishing. IMG_3572.JPGIMG_3573.JPGIMG_3574.JPGIMG_3578.JPG

  3. I was nervous at 1st with the big john ones so I would hook a small bungee cord from reel to rod holder. That ended up being more or a hassle when the fish hit. I run my dipsey rod tips as close to the water as possible. I have never had an issue and I think it is because there is so much pressure on the rod running a dipsey that it wedges the rod in the holder.

  4. Was finally able to get some friends I used to work with from Kodak out. Stayed in close since the lady mentioned she has gotten sea sick before and she has never been salmon fishing. Set up in 130 and headed west. Saw a few boats in same area. Riggers set 80, 70, 60, 50. Wire out 180 and 200 on 2 setting. 60 rigger (DW 2 face) released 3 times in 20 minutes but no one home. 70 rigger (Mag 42 gold) 1 release with no one home. Just started to eat our subs and 180 wire (white double crush SD/hammer fly) starts screaming. I hand it to the lady and she was like what do I do. I tried to coach her while I cleared all the other rods since I didn’t want any crossed lines with rooking fighting her 1st king and a rookie driving the boat. She did good fighting the fish but she tired out so we gave the rod to the other guest. Fish had a big lamprey stuck to it. Reset all the lines and trolled back to port. Marked a lot of bait and lots of fish around bait. Screen lit up around 70fow when it was almost dark out. I was a little disappointed I couldn’t get them on more fish but 1 is better than none and my buddy was happy to take home a fish. Good luck out there guys/gals! 6. Left my boat at home and went with 2 guys from work on a coworker’s boat. Brought my dipsey rods since he didn’t have any. Fished mostly 140 fow. Went 6-7. 3 kings, 2 lakers and 1 rainbow. Spin doctor/fly on wire took all but 1 fish. Wires set 180 and 210 on 2 setting. Only 1 spoon fish. Better than working! IMG_3510.JPGIMG_3515.JPG

  7. I have to agree with SK8MAN. Jeremy is a class act. I sent him a private message about his boat and he was very helpful and even offered up a ride. That is amazing in my mind. Jeremy along with Yankee Troller have always answered any question I have asked and that means a lot about a person in my mind. Speaks volumes about the sport but also speaks volumes about some ones character. I know there is many others guys that help and we are all so lucky to have people like that on this site!
