  1. I just did the same. Bought a new 196 from PA. Called around and Albion DMV said they would do it. So I made an appt and drove 45 mins. There was 3 forms I needed. 1 for boat reg, 1 for trailer reg and 1 for sales tax. I took plate from the trailer I just sold and transferred it. Walked out hour later with everything I needed. Put the new ID on the boat and had the maiden voyage last night. If you have any questions let me know. Good luck with the boat. Love mine so far . IMG_4360.JPGIMG_4388.JPG

  2. I have a pair of Cannon Mag 10s that are nearly 20 years old. One still going strong, the other failed just last weekend. I ordered a new Mag 10 STX and will be installing it today. The nice thing is it looks like the hole pattern for the swivel base is a perfect match from old to new. Definitely some improvements from old to new too. The old one that failed had a cracked spool that caused the spool to turn out of center as the DR operated. That made the motor gear and spool drive gear to have uneven contact and about 1/3 of the teeth on the spool drive gear wore down. Of course it gave up the ghost in the down position. It's fun pulling 90' of cable out of the lake. Thank God I had heavy leather work gloves on the boat. If I have any significant pros or cons soon I'll update this post.

Thanks, let me know how you like the new ones. I get the boat next week, so I have some to to rig it up.

  6. Left the dock at 6:30. Set up in 100 fow since it was little rough. Trolled NW. Lost 1 on wire dispey set 210 SD/F combo in 150. Picked up a small Steele in 180 on wire Dipsey set 180 with SD/F combo. Not my boat so no fish hawk. Headed in around 9:30. Didn’t mark very much. Just nice to be out. Can’t wait to get the new boat in another week. IMG_4332.JPG

  7. Probe and temp readout works. Line counter broken and hand strap broken.

Clip it to your down rigger or line counter reel to get depth and temp readings for cheap.

  8. Looking to equip new boat with 2 riggers. Was looking at Cannon mag 10 and read a lot of comments about circuit board issues and water issues. So I thought I would switch to the manual riggers and not have to worry about electrical issues but reviews on the cannon manuals are not good either. Are cannon riggers really that bad? Are Scotty’s better? Old boat had manual invaders and they worked fine so anything is an upgrade for me. I know electric is faster but I don’t mind manual. Riggers will be taken off each day and stored in garage. Thanks in advance for your advice.

  10. We were trolling along and this bird must have been tired and needed a place to rest. Stayed with us for about 10 minutes. Funny thing was about 5 minutes after it left that rods fires with a laker attached.

My buddy is a fellow volunteer fire fighter and lives in Dansville. He takes me fishing in the finger lakes so I returned the favor. He is hooked now and can’t wait to go again.

  11. Well done!  Love the red wing!!
    Best lures, colors?

Clear dispey, white double crush glow SD, hammer fly took most hits. Black dipsey, black SD with crush tape and green dots, crinkle green fly 2nd. Gold 42nd spoon MAG was only spoon to fire. Fished 2 riggers stacked and 2 wire dipseys. Some day I will try copper and lead core.
