Got that fish almost to the boat and the line between the dipsey and the SD/FLY let go, must have had a nick in it that got overlooked. Around 6:20 the port dipsey started ripping and he took out over 300ft. Got him back to 90 ft on the reel counter in 90 FOW water and couldn't get him to come up off the bottom. After 20 minutes I finally got him to the boat and in the net. When he hit the deck I knew we had one of the big boys. Packed up and headed for the weigh station at Davenports. Got there at 7:45 and put him on the scales. 33lbs 7oz YA HOO we are in first place in the salmon division and WTF?? I'm getting whipped by a lake trout??? How can this happen? Oh well,, congrats to the guy with the slob laker!! ====================

  7. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):8/23 Time on Water:2:00 till 6:00 pm Weather/Temp: 78 Wind Speed/Direction: NE light Waves: 1 to 2 Surface Temp: 76 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: kings Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: 3.2 Down Speed: 2.6 2.8 Boat Depth: 90 ft Lure Depth: 70 - 85 ft ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Finally seeing some colder water above 100ft We had 49 to 53 degrees at 75 to 80 ft. One 22lb came on a dipsey out 175 ft lime green SD with a green and silver fly. Smaller teenager also on that same rig. Then we lost another big king near the boat when the leader from the SD to the fly broke ( mental note to check leaders for dings and weak spots after each fish) Finally we hit a 24lb on downrigger set at 74 ft with a similar SD/fly rig. Not a bad afternoon overall.
  8. Reduced price $250 Still willing to trade toward a kicker motor, I would add cash for the right motor.
  9. I see Scotty makes several different model numbers, what model are you guys running and why did you choose that model?
  10. I'm in Sodus Point, probably about as far from you as I could get without leaving Lake Ontario. They could be shipped UPS or in the mail.
  11. I have a pair of Penn 620 downriggers with 48" booms and swivel bases for sale. These have served me well but it's time to get electrics and save my arms for fighting fish. Both downriggers are in good shape. Cables are included and just need your releases of choice to be ready to go fishing. I will include a pair of weights, they are either 8 or 10 lbs, I don't remember for sure what the weight is. Asking $300 or I will include some cash for a trade toward a nice kicker outboard. Looking for something in the 10 to 15 hp range.
  12. My friend got his first major salmon and was more than a little excited when he came to the boat. The fish hit on a dipsey set at 270 and ran out almost 800 ft on his first run. All I could hear was the drag and him yelling HOLY ####! from the back of the boat. The scale was bouncing between 22 and 24 lbs.
  13. Fleas were there, I hadn't been out in almost 3 weeks and this is the first time I have seen them this year.
  14. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):6/19 Time on Water:5 hours Weather/Temp: High Eighties Wind Speed/Direction: South 10 to 15 Waves: 2 ft Surface Temp: 56 Location: 70' 80' just west of sodus channel LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated:3 Species Breakdown: kings Hot Lure: any combination of green spinners and green flies Trolling Speed: 2.8 / 3 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 70 80 Lure Depth: 27' Left the dock at 10AM Strong south wind and 2 ft chop on the lake, Cold water at the surface in 70 ft set riggers at 25 and 30 dipsies at 50 and 70 ft on the counters. 1st small king hit the 25 ft rigger after 15 minutes maybe 8 or 10 lbs 2nd small king hit the other rigger at 30 ft soon after the first. After an hour the dipsy set at 70 ft ripped and we landed a nice looking 19 lb after a pretty good run for a fish that size. Lots of bait and fish on the graph. Then the wind let up and the surface temp started rising almost immediately. Fish shut down and we took a 3 hour boat ride. Ankle biter flies were the worst I have seen in years. ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ====================
  15. Looking at buying a place on Port Bay or East Bay. Is the channel to East Bay kept open? I have a 22' Starcraft with an outboard so I don't need alot of water to get around.
  16. I see now that this was Saturday not Monday. Sad situation.
  17. My prayers are with the family also and nothing could be more tragic for them, but am I the only one to ask why would you be on Lake Ontario in a small fishing boat when the weather is calling for an all out Nor'Easter Storm with 60 mph winds from the north east?
  18. Here are a few pictures from the beach in Sodus Point today. Looks like at least 8 to 10 ft rollers.
  19. I'm not sure if this is the way to do it (money grab ) but I do think there should be some type of basic training before you head out on a boat. Always amazed me that someone can buy a 30 foot boat and just jump on and drive away. I guess this really applies to any size boat but bigger boats with twin screws are not easy to drive in close quarters. Someone please confirm this rule for me please. Two motor vessels approaching bow to bow should pass port side to port side, correct? So if this is the rule why do some boats insist on forcing themselves to the inside when they are headed west along the south shoreline. This happens constantly while fishing browns in the spring close to shore. I always thought if this rule was to be followed then if your headed east you go closer to shore and the boat headed west would pass to the outside. Is my thinking correct on this?
  20. I have a Teleflex steering system, cable is 14'. Includes the steering wheel, cable and all the mounting hardware. I also have a Walkthru windshield from an open bow Larson. The windshield is approximately 5.5 ft wide. Asking $75 for the steering system and $100 for the windshield. Contact Steve, 315 573 1373 with offers. Cash or trade for fishing equipment works for me.
  21. Name: Steve Location:Sodus Point, NY Home Port:Sodus Point, NY Boat Name/Type:Sundown, 22' Starcraft Center Console I fish for: Trout, Salmon, Perch ================== Hello to all LOU members. I have lived in Sodus Point most of my life and grew up fishing Lake Ontario and Sodus Bay with my Dad and Grandfather. Smallmouth Bass, Pike and Perch were the fish of choice back then (over 50 years ago). I started fishing for Trout and Salmon as soon as they became available from the stocking programs. Worked on several charter boats and had my charter license for several years. After fishing became more of a job than a hobby I decided to sell my boat and get away from fishing. After only a few years I discovered that it wasn't the fishing I wanted to get away from, it was the constant pressure of trying to please charter customers. So now I am back to fishing just for the fun of it. I live right in Sodus and work at the Golf Club that you pass as you enter Sodus Point on Route 14. If any of you guys ever have any problems when your visiting this area feel free to get in touch with me. I have access to a full maintenance shop and would help anyone that has problems.
