  1. I think your right the numbers do seem to come after the $ sign. Ben....your right lots more stuff....and the wife's latest question has been how come you need so much stuff? Till she went out and saw Hannah and I setting the lines and changining things up that weren't working....now whe gets it. Thanks again for the help dbutts greatly appreciated. Going to try and be on the water today and tomorrow then maybe Sat and Sun afternoon. If anyone is out give a shout I may be wandering aimlessly and in need of help.
  2. Friday went out of long point with my daughter and headed to Sheldrake.....trolled for a long time without moving a rod. As usual with a litte help from the good guys on the lake especially dbutts and we starting catching fish. A slow steady pick but ended up with a LL, a brown, and two decent lakers one just over 9lbs. Tried like heck for the grand slam but just couldnt find a rainbow.....I know what they look like now. The brown was caught on a blue spoon on a slider and the rest were all on the same dispy out 280 with a chrome and green SD and green fly. Saturday started out with my daughter, my brother and two nieces. Same slow pick but ended up with five nice lakers the largest being almost 8lbs. Again all came on the one set up....a dispy out 280 with a chrome dodger with an iridescent fly. Still need to figure out how to catch the numbers but my daughter is quickly turning into quite a first mate....It was pretty cool to have her drive the boat and listen to her explain to her cousins how things worked and what we were doing to set the lines. All in all the kids had a blast even with the slow action.
  3. Great Fish!!!!! I think your right....It belongs on the wall.
  4. Awesome job as always.....I'm going to print off that picture with the brown and LL...wish you had a rainbow in there then I'd be set. Hope to be back on the water this saturday after a weekend out of town.
  5. I did hear that the former owner misses her a ton.....rest easy knowing she has already given us more fun than I could have imagined. Caught two more nice lakers saturday...one 9 lber and another around 7.....and we lost three that were big enough we couldnt get any line back.....all three just stayed back there and fought till...poof...nothing.
  6. Great job.....I know all about trying to reel in fish alone into the wind.....last time I did that my gps looked like I was trying to paint a pretzel when I got done. As far as the fish ID I couldnt even tell the difference between a LL and a rainbow a month ago when my daughter caught a 9lbder so I wont embarass myself again by making a guess. Great report...thanks for the info.
  7. Sounds like a good day....never tried jigging but a couple of guys i work with have had great luck with it. I'm sure I've been entertainment for someone as i learned to drive my boat but two weeks ago I watched a guy launch his boat off the trailer half way down the ramp at long point.....he was in the boat....his wife hit the brakes half way down the ramp and off he shot...one bounce and in the water....across the launch and slammed into the last post on the other side of the launch. I ran to help as quick as i could but he fired it up and took it for a test spin out in lake. Thankfully he came back in one piece...I expected to watch him sink half way out of the launch.
  8. Sam....they are an off brand......just sent you a PM with the info I have on them.
  9. Starting to get there....thanks for all the help.
  10. Can't beat time on the water....if i had known how my daughter was going to enjoy it i would have started years ago....nice fish and it was a beautiful morning.
  11. Headed out of Long Point and headed south. Had a few swings and misses and then hooked up with a nice 10lb 2oz laker. Biggest fish my son's buddy had ever caught.......for that matter biggest fish landed on my boat so far. Needless to say he was set for the rest of the am. Caught a few small LLs and then with the help I got from the folks on LOU my new 10 color lead fired and my daughter landed a nice 8.5lber. Caught a couple more lakers but all were under 5. Didn't do the numbers most of you see but the kids were very happy with what we got. Downriggers at 50 to 65 over 200fow with a crome and green SD and a pole dancer fly...lead core had a sutton. Thanks again to all for the advice.....Wes...Ben...and Chowder for all the PMs........you guys have made a couple kids fishing addicts!!!!
  12. Thanks Chowder....just remembered I have two extra penn/ugly stick set ups that I rarely use and have to figure out if the reels I have are big enough for the lead core.
  13. Thanks for the report. Nice fish!!!!! I noticed in the background your running planers. Are you running your lead off them and if so what are you using for a release??
  14. Thanks guys...really appreciate the input. Not sure which way I'll go but thanks for the help.
  15. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet in the next couple weeks and get a unit that gives me speed and temp at the ball. I know there are alot of options but would like to here from the guys that have put the different units through there paces. Which one would you recommend?
  16. Didnt realize we were on page two with a completely different subject...should have quoted Wes in the first reply The credit for the recent rainbow really should go to Splitshot.....i was wandering aimlessly around the lake with limited luck and he put me in the spot. As for my program i am making progress thanks to all the help but right now it reads more like a comedy. I definatley had tired arms after reeling in half the copper.....I think I had Wes take over...which is pretty pathetic since I'm pretty sure he's a couple years older than me. At any rate my next few dollars are gonna be spent on a temp and speed at the ball sensor so it'll probably be next year before i even think about more rods.

  18. No doubt.....they are still busting me about getting ssome copper....I'm an office boy now don't know if I could handle it.
  19. Ben strikes again....He and his Dad are awesome guys...they did the same thing for me!!! Of course they also cost me alot of money but I am catching more fish. I wish everyone was as generous as those two and quite a few others on LOU like splitshot. Hope to do the same for somone when I finally figure out how to tell the difference between and LL and a Rainbow (note my earlier post about the 9lb 40z LL my daughter caught....it was actually a ranibow) and can put fish in the boat like they do.
  20. Ok so I'm an idiot....i've only stream fished and never caught a rainbow that big....I thought it was a LL either way I appreciate the help and she is still talking about it. [ Post made via Android ]
  21. Went out of long point about 6 and headed for Sheldrake. Hit one small laker then headed north....hit alot of water south and north of long point and finally headed back to the dock to pick up my wife and daughter. Her first trip on the boat named after her....12 year olds and thier social schedule dont make for alot of open weekends...... Headed back to Sheldrake and after an hour of nothing.....got on the radio and Spiltshot was generous enough to take the time to chat and head me in the right direction. Hit two small LLs and a laker on our way so my daughter had a feel for what fishing with the rigger rods and wire was going to be like. She is used to ice fishing and perch and pickerel on an ultra light. Just like Splitshot said we hit the spot and the rigger fired and started peeling line.....30 min later Hannah Marie landed a 9lb 4oz landlock. I think her and mom took a hundred pics....she is so excited and hooked forever. THANKS TO SPLITSHOT for making her first trip one to remember....and to WES and Ben on the Quality Time for spending alot of time getting me started.
  22. Have ur dad give me a call if you want more to run more lines on sat. I would love to keep plugging along trying to figure it out but i owe you guys for all the help. If you need more bodies to try out running more lines I'm in.
  23. Great job.....glad someone had some luck....fished north end of Cayuga...one lost at the boat and that was it. At least its not 45 anymore!!!!
  24. I did get a spare insert from a friend....drove down to Treaman...unloaded...slow poked it out beyond what i thought was 1000' (not sure if the no wake restriction is in place) cranked her up and away we went. Found out why i spend the time to put the top and windshield enclosure on. All went good....if i dont help Wes and the Quality Time with fishing alot more lines...i'll have her on the water this coming weekend. Thanks again for the tips.....wish i had know about the marking trick on the water Sat. Was worried about the drive itself and did 5mph from the island to long point.....long trip when your budy is trying to make it to dinner on time.
