  1. Well, at minimum, my boat didn't sink and ran like a champ. We launched out of Clute around 730. Set up on the west side heading south. We had tons of marks and huge bait schools, but no takers. Fish were around 30 feet in anywhere from 60-120FOW. Made it back to the canal and headed up the east side. Again, tons of marks and bait, but no fish in the boat. We ran leadcores, riggers, flatlines and dipseys and tried every color and size under the sun. We were the only boat out in the bottom part as far as I could see, which should have tipped us off. We finally gave up at 1245. A friendly guy from the RV park talked to us as we were packing the boat up and said no one was really getting much. I have a hunch he was trying to make us feel better. 2. Good to know. I am bringing a guy who hasn't fished up round there before, so we'll probably do Seneca just to get him some fish. I bet the South Shore Marina derby is going to be a tough one from how I am hearing the lake is. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Has anyone been having any luck on Owasco lately? I am going out Thursday, but I am trying to decide on Seneca or Owasco. Thanks! Cody Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Thanks for the heads-up. I looked into both of them, but the 2 posted lately were just a bit too big. The search continues... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. I am looking for a tandem axle trailer for a 19' sea pro. Brand new trailers are around $3150 and I would like to avoid spending that much. The trailer under it is a single axle rated for 3000#, the axle is rated for 3500#. It's a little close for comfort to the weight of the boat, unless I am thinking about it the wrong way? The boat is a 1998 Sea Pro 190 WA with an outboard. It weighs 2800 lbs without gas and gear, so I need a minimum capacaity of 4000lbs. I live in PA, so it also needs brakes on both axles and can be either surge or electric. I have no preference for bunks or rollers. It should be in pretty good shape also. I have looked on eBay, craiglist and google searches and came up with little. I frequent the finger lakes and can travel up around rochester if need be. If anyone has one, or knows where I can possibly find one, it would be very appreciated! Thanks!!
  6. I had an "Aha!" moment talking to someone yesterday about this. The boat in question doesn't have a radio in it (it needs tunes!) so I was going to install 6.5" marine speakers. I can just run the speaker wires, cut the holes to fit the speakers and use that as the access to the underside for mounting the DR's. It is simple to remove a speaker if I ever need to get under there again.
  7. Why would Cannon even give the option for wellnuts? It seems like they could be liable for failure. The rigger bases take a lot of torque from proper use, let alone if you snag bottom.
  8. A wire is loose or rubbed through to cause it to redirect electricity. Instead of completing to intended circuit it takes a "short"cut.
  9. I just bought 2 Cannon unitroll 10 stx's and the mounting instructions from Cannon say to use wellnuts if the underside is not accessible. Has anyone used this way to mount? I really don't want to trust $1000+ in gear to little pieces of rubber. My other option would be to cut a hole on the side of the gunwale and install a round hatch to have access to the underside. I really didn't want to start cutting 5" holes, but a little peace of mind could be worth it. A plate of aluminum or some fender washers have a bit more holding power than a wellnut. Any experience in this area from anyone? Thanks! Cody
  10. I think RSF nailed it. It started doing it with the down direction. I was going to get the multimeter out and start check points, but now it looks like I'll be chasing a short. Yipee! Thanks for the info! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Hi all. I just picked up a Sea Pro 190 WA that has a 1998 150 merc black max. The trim/tilt motor has an electrc issue lifting up. The switches (on the motor and control handle) both pick up the relay, but the electric motor works intermittently. Am I correct in thinking it is a loose wire between the relay and the lift motor or between the battery (source) and the relay? Is it more common in one than the other? Thanks! 12. I may sound a bit insane, but I am looking for an aluminum, deep V project boat. To be more precise, an 18-20 foot, outboard driven, aluminum walthrough or side console with a rotten transom or floor (or both!). The aluminum should preferrably be in good shape, just rotten wood. If the outboard runs, it would be a plus. It can be faded, but no holes or gouges or the like. I would also like it to have a trailer. PM me with what you have and we'll discuss. I mentioned 1990+ in the title, but 80's would work too. I don't want to get into "antique" style. I am looking for something along the lines of the style of Tracker, Lund, Alumacraft, etc. Thanks!! Cody
  13. Hi all I am looking at a 1995 seaswirl striper 2150. It's the cuddy cabin I/O version. The engine is an omc 225hp v8 with a cobra outdrive. Looks to be in good shape for a 1995. Does anyone have any experience with these? Is there anything to watch out for? I plan on getting it inspected before signing papers. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Sounds good. I planned on being generous with the 5200. I also went just a hair bigger on the new bolts. The originals were 3/16" and I ordered 1/4". I snapped a few of the 3/16" ones off taking them out. Not that 1/16" bigger will make a huge strength difference, but it'll make me feel better. The new ones also have an allen wrench head instead of a phillips head. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. I haven't made much progress in the last few days. My work schedule has been insane! I managed to get almost everything I needed to be able to finish this whole thing off once I get the wood epoxied. I have a simple question that has to have an easy answer, but my common sense flew out the window. I ordered stainless washers with the neoprene gasket attached for the bolts that run through the transom. The bolts I took out all had them, so I figured they would be good to use again. The question is which side does the neoprene go on, bolt head or transom? When we took them off, they were neo to bolt head. I am going to use 5200 on the bolts as well for double protection. I hopefully will get the wood cut to shape tonight and fitted before I seal it tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Looks like I will be stopping on the way home for resin and a new sheet of plywood. Why the 3:1 mix? I am assuming 3 parts epoxy, 1 of hardener. By the sounds of it, I can just use the resin as the glue and to seal the wood? It doesn't need to look fancy, it'll be buried in aluminum sheeting. I'll be looking for the acid etching paint as well. I'll post up some pictures later tonight once I get the process going again. Thanks all!
  17. And as for talking to a boat repair place locally, I live in northeast PA. They would probably charge me to ask questions! 😄 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. That is good info. I'll be doing round #3 this week with epoxy! Would resin without the fiberglass between 2 sheets of plywood work or is the fiberglass sheet necessary? As for UV light degrading, all the wood is covered by aluminum. None of it is exposed to sunlight. But, what kind of paint would work? I'm not sure I want to get into gelcoating. Would an epoxy garage floor paint work? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Thanks for the well wishes with this! It turned into a waiting game watching glue dry! I have definitely learned a few things with this so far. 1. Silicone is not a proper sealant for unused screw holes. I found a lot of spots the previous owner tried to seal up places that looked insane. He must have held the caulk gun on the hole and pumped it in until he ran out. 2. Liquid nails won't work for gluing plywood together. You can clamp it all day and when you unclamp it, it will just pop apart, even if you follow directions. 3. Tracker should have never used galvanized screws to hold the motorwell to the transom, even if they thought it would never see moisture. 4. When the galvanized screws rot off, more silicone will not hold the wetwell plate to the transom. Those are just a few initial observations. This next sheet of plywood is untreated pine sheeting. I used contact cement to glue them together. It's no cheaper than fiberglass/resin the sheets together, but seems like it is similar to make the plywood. If there is a reason that fiberglass/resin is used, I'll probably make another plywood part. For sealing, I am going to use spar urethane. The brand name is Minwax Helmsman. An open thought is about painting bare aluminum. Should it be done? I thought about just spraying it with rustoleum. Something is better than nothing! Another thing I have been trying to figure out is the bolt holes that go through the wood. Should they be drilled before or after sealing? If I drill before, and make sure urethane gets in them, that is just a bit extra protection. I am going to use 5200 on any bolt or screw that goes into the wood. I really don't want to replace this again anytime soon! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. I am working on replacing my old wood transom in my Tracker. I had a hunch the transom was completely rotten, but was in denial. I literally had this out a week ago fishing on Seneca. I had to share once I started pulling things apart. The wood really isn't wood anymore, but loosely assembled wood chips and soggy wads of the remnants of plywood. It was unnervingly close to pulling the motor bolts through, also. I'll post more pictures as the project progresses. I Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Had an ok day out of clute. 2 salmon, 2 rainbows. Had another salmon hook up and bump off shortly after. The bows and 1 salmon were literally in front of the boat launch, the other salmon was out near the dirt line. Lures were a little firetiger rapala and a rainbow trout yo zuri pinfish. The big rainbow was 30", 8.5 lbs. This was his first time fishing outside of PA. Beginners luck! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. At least the weather looks ok! I am bringing along a guy tomorrow that has never fished in New York. The only trout he has caught were out of PA streams. If we get into anything, it'll be a treat for him! I'm bringing along rods for flatlining, copper/flatfish and for my downriggers. I really like watching people catch finger lakes and great lakes fish that have never fished for them before. It's an awesome thing! I'll be out tomorrow. Jumping in at Clute Park. By the sounds of it, I will be trolling a couple smaller bombers out the chute. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Figures. The weather never cooperates with me on days I can make it up. The big O is just another 40 minute drive, and weather underground is forecasting a beautiful day up there. Maybe I'll head up there until Seneca stables out. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Has anyone been out on Seneca this weekend? I am headed out tomorrow morning on the south end. I heard the water was up and you had to dodge debris last week. Has that changed at all? Cheers Cody Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. I'll be in a little 16' Tracker pro-v. Hopefully I see some of you netting fish! Cheers.
