  1. My wife enjoys it so far (one trip) She needs practice steering the boat though. Last time out, she had surgery a few days prior and couldn't fight any fish, but she enjoyed watching me and the kids. She's anxious to feel the fight of a King.
  2. Now is the time to be out there. Calm before the rain. They were fired up last night. We had 4 hits within 10 min right at the end. Landed 2, lost one, and one broke off on a dipsey. Trying to convince the Mrs. to go out with me after the kids get on the bus.
  3. Crushed ritz crackers, old bay, garlic powder, and a little cayenne. Or same spices but Panko bread crumbs for the crunch. When done frying, place the fish on a rack so grease doesnt soak into it. I ice fish so there is ALOT of panfish hitting my cast iron. Never tried fried salmon though. Maybe this year.

I called the hot lure today with a homemade nk mag that my sons made, and boy was it hot. lost 2 kings, missed a release, and landed a laker and a coho on it. Mag frog got the only king we boated. 35' lead, 30' down over 55' deep. My foreman and friend Jerry got a decent Laker as well. Hopefully I will be out in the am too.
  5. I hear ya. Thats why I'm hoping to get out this afternoon. The weekend doesn't look too good.
  6. Who's going out today after all that North wind? I was thinking of going out of Olcott this afternoon since the Lake is forecast to have 1-2 ft waves by then. Any opinions on what happens to the fishing after a strong Nor'Easter like that?
  7. Check this listing out. It is a perfect compromise between family and fishing. If you are looking for alot of room in the cabin, and a fair amount of deck space then this would suit you just fine. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=12020
  8. I don't have twilly tips on my rods. It was told to me by a reliable source that its not necessary unless I'm fishing everyday. I will still pay attention to any wear that the eye might have, and add a Twilly if necessary. I have Shimano TDR dipsey rods
  9. I found someone who would like to observe for you. I will call you.
  10. go to fish307.com they have replacement switches. If you need a whole new circuit board, they have those as well.
  11. I'm new to wire as well. I bought a spool of torpedo 19 strand smoke because you can tie it like fishing line and it is pretty flexible. It is $50 for 1000' however, so I spooled my 2 reels with 400' of 50# Power Pro and split the spool with 500' of wire on each reel. You have to connect the wire with a nail knot, which you can search online for directions. As for spoons, look in the classifieds. There's always someone selling alot of spoons.
  12. I just bought a 98 bayliner 2452 last November and it is kind of a compropmise between fishing and family boat. I noticed someone has a 93 pretty well rigged on here for $8500. My family loves the room in the cabin of our boat, and I have to say I do too.
  13. K GoneFishin' I am a contractor located in the Newfane/ Olcott area. The cost to build a 24 x 32 x 8 with 3 8x8 overhead doors, 2 windows, and a man door is $10,000 plus the cost of the overhead doors (about $490 apiece installed) We just built one with those exact dimensions 2 weeks ago. Concrete and fill would be extra (around $4 per sq ft for 4" of stone and 4" of concrete, plus $20 per extra ton of stone needed)
  14. Where are you fishing out of? Flasher/ flies are taking kings out of Olcott right now.
  15. Couldnt find 2 strong young men with a thirst for beer to do the heavy lifting? We've built 2 already this year, and have another to build in May. I love building barns. Clever idea you have there though.
  16. I have a brinkman smoke 'n' grill with the side smoke box, and I love it. The one u bought was what i was thinking of buying to replace my 4 yr old beast. I can do 2 whole salmon on mine and 6 racks of ribs (seperately of course) the smoking area looked a little small when i checked it out. I would love to hear what you think when u use it more.
  17. Kappy, I have 24' bayliner cierra express. I bought it from Luckyman last year. Not the best fishing boat, but has alot of cabin room for the family. When I was a kid, my dad had a 14' wood boat we took out on Lake O chasing kings. Gotta start somewhere
  18. Thanks Tim. He's so fricken cute. Growing up way too fast. Luckyman the boat is great. I had a blast getting back out there today. Thanks Reel power and good luck to u when you splash. Gill-T, I can't let you catch them all out of Olcott this year. I'm sure I'll run into you down there sometime.
  19. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: King Slammin (Shakedown) ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water: 11:35 to 2:00 and 4:30 to 6:45 Weather/Temp: Sunny Wind Speed/Direction: SW and WSW Waves: Calm at first but 1-3 later on Surface Temp: 46 to 52 Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 Total Boated: 7 Species Breakdown: Kings, Lakers, Coho Hot Lure: NK Mag Frog Trolling Speed: 3.0 to 4.0 Down Speed: 2.2 to 3.2 Boat Depth: 85 to 125 Lure Depth: 40 to 90 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== It was my wife and I on the first trip out. We went 4 for 7 between 11:35 and 2:00. Only ran 2 riggers and 2 mono dipseys. Took hits on all. Went home to pick up our sons after they got home from school, and headed back down to the boat. The lake was stirring up by then, and only got 3 more. 2 lakers and a Coho. My 5 yr old son Charlie got his first Lake O fish though. I hope he's hooked now.
  20. What do you guys think this incoming severe weather and winds will do to the currently hot fishing in the west side of the lake. I would think the fish would head deeper for a few days, but still have the feedbag on shortly after the storm. I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
  21. Welcome to our addiction. I spent over 18k since last November to get back out on Lake Ontario. Now that my Grandad is getting older and my boys can join me to see what kind of fun we had. When I was growing up in the 80's and 90's fishing for kings out there with my dad and Grandad, there was nothing like it. The thrill of almost getting spooled then trying to return all that line onto the reel just to watch it go again. I can't wait to be back out there.
  22. Buy 4 convectors and 2 spools of torpedo 19 strand smoke wire. Fill 2 of the convectors with the 2 spools of torpedo wire (1000') or buy one spool and split it 500' on each reel with 300' of 50# Power Pro backing but you will have to tie a nail knot to splice and make sure the power pro is taped on the reel seat or it will spin. Spool the other 2 with 20# mono (I like Maxima chameleon for its durability) and use 2 of your other rods for stackers. There is your perfect 6 rod spread for kings. Good luck. If you get copper for a chute rod, get a 500 or 600 copper that you can use at all depths. If you are using on boards, u have to get all different lengths as you can only attach releases to the mono at the end of the copper.
  23. Wire divers are a must if you are chasing kings. You can stack your riggers and run 4 rods there too, but I would run your 2 riggers, 2 wire divers, and 2 sliders off the rigger rods, if you only have room for 4 rods. That gives u 6 lines in the water at various depths and spread.
