  1. Deer heart recipe

Cook the heart whole in boiling water or pressure cooker.

Slice 1/4 inch slices across the grain

remove all the internal lining and any of the outer that's narly looking.

Fry in a pan (iron skillet best) with butter and copious amounts of basil (you can add pepper and garlic salt etc...)

If you do it right, it will be dry and tender and taste delicious.  My brother and I use to ask for it for our birthday dinner.  The reason not to eat is that it is very high in bad cholesterol.  Sucks to get old.  I had to stop eating it about 5 years ago.  I use to be able to eat like Joey Chestnut.

  2. Tell the campground owner to go to the dollar general and get some cheap yet strong perfume and cologne and soak a rag and put that in the dumpster.  Use the bears' strongest sense against him/her.  If that doesn't work then only a human intervention will.

Regarding the fellow making poor decisions... IDK.  Not much of a trophy if it isn't a fair chase.

I have a saying.  "I will consider that when I am hungry but thankfully I am not hungry right now."

  3. 6 weeks from now those water sources will be important.  They get a lot of their water intake from their diet in the summer.

I have noticed a big change in deer movement this year but not because of the drought but because of the lack of vegetation because of the drought.  I am hoping we get some soaking rains soon.  Where I was afraid to drive my truck last year the earth is cracked this year.

  4. Just across border in PA is Strouse's Taxidermy.  I haven't been there in a while because haven't harvested anything for the wall in a long time.  He use to do a lot of bear and I imagine he still does.

  5. You get a mix because bass eat like people.  Some wolf it down and some nibble.  gamakatsu circle hooks work well.  I think you should be using a #2 - not sure why you are missing hook sets maybe move up one size.  You can use a wire hook as well.  The advantage here is that you can let swallowed hooks remain and the fish will either break it down or it will pass thru.  It is better to cut than yank if you are catch and releasing.  I know you are looking for an explanation for your questions - I don't really know.

BTW the live bait thing gets even harder when you add walleye into the mix.  And about live bait vs artificial.  I believe there is a time and place for both.  I have seen a lot of bass deformed from 9 hook point lures and that's why mine are like brand new.  I would rather catch the fish with one hook point if I am going to release it.  Cranks usually out fish live bait in the fall so I will use them - don't want to be a hypocrite.

  6. Really good early in the year before the water warms.  They are firmer than perch but as summer gets heated they get a little bit mushy like crappie without the crappie taste.

Normally a big walleye hookset leads to loose hooks in torn mouth, but you just are hooking them deep in the hard roof...just watch a bass fisherman and do that you seldom ever loose a fish and you will struggle to get the jig out!  No wimpy rods and braid!

I miss fishing with you Justin.  I am glad you are posting.  I call this "Vicariously".  Thank you!

I am not sure your set ups but I was dropping a lot of fish with mono drop shotting. I changed to superslick main with a ~6-10 ft flouro Seagur and it improved greatly my hook up to land ratio.  It is so good that I just reel perch, bluegill, and crappie.  All of the give is on a light rod and zero stretch in the line.  I have not yet fished your Keitechs yet but will give them a try.  I just haven't felt like turkey hunting or fishing this year with current climate - that's a big first for me.

  8. Get a grill for the boat. It is a thing.  Try not to blow yourself up.

I am sitting here thinking about how hungry I would have to be to eat raw salmon from lake O and I skipped breakfast and I still can't picture it.

  9. I like to watch regional fishing videos and guess where they are at and at what time of year.  I also like watching the Florida fishing channels with the ladies wearing bikinis.  I know they were on boats and I think they had fishing poles but don't ask me what they were using or what they were catching.  I don't remember that part.

There are some people on here that would be fun watching and listening too.  Some old and some young.  A lot of talent on this site.
