I bought a pre-rigged 5 color core and the knot that came on it from lead to flouro leader is too big it takes some shoving to get it through the levelwind part of the reel. Im using daiwa great lakes 47 sealine reel. Should I cut and tie something or just chance it getting caught up there? I didn't notice the first knot from the braid to lead. That made it through with ease...

what knots should i be using to tie swivels on with 20#/30# mono or flouro? when tying direct (uni/uni) from mainline to leader do i really need a swivel after this or should I leave it bare to snap/swivel? or should i avoid the uni knot altogether and just attach the main line and flouro leader with a swivel? thanks

I was close.... Okuma Classic Pro GLT Rod - CP-DR-862M are the rods I ordered a few days ago (27.95) downrigger rods. Im guessing these are the same but without the metal guides. Should have started this thread before I ordered. The leadcore rod was 39.95 maybe ill put another order in for one of those.

thanks. no it was lead ive heard if you dont have the right guides it will rip the sheath and then the lead rubbing damages the guides.

Do I really need to buy a special "leadcore rod" or will any standard downrigger rod work? Ive heard that the leadcore can eat up the guides...
