  1. Im thinking with 20 boats we could do 3-4 places heaviest fish, but ONLY 1 fish weighed per boat. I didn't think it was fair to let 1 boat win it all, or most walleye because to me its about trying to catch 1 big fish...obviously we'll be keeping more than 1 if possible. If it only takes 1 big fish to win every boat is in the hunt right up to weigh in as long as they have lines in the water. Its not really a numbers lake...if you catch a 3 fish limit that's good and more than that in a morning is a banner day. I think 6 walleye landed and a few drops is the best morning Ive had. I will have some prizes for any child who lands a walleye, so as we get closer Id like a count on kids that are fishing. There are still a few guys out there that I haven't heard from that I know have an interest in the lake. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about walleye trolling on Otisco. justin
  2. Great report and nice fish! Its all about sharing for me also. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. 30lb 8lb diameter works well and I had zero complaints, but Im excited to try the seaguar 20lb 4lb diameter, as 4lb dia gets you the most depth. As an example: the rapala deep taildancer 11 dives to about 29' with 200' setback on 10lb diameter line 32' with 200' setback on 8lb diameter line or 29' with 130' setback 36' with 200' setback on 4lb diameter line or 29' with 80' setback Of course clip weights will do the same thing I just like the simplicity of not adding the weights unless I have to. I know everybody who has caught eyes off the riggers on my boat loves the short setbacks fighting fish. Ive caught eyes with close to 400' of line out and Ive caught them with less than 100' of line and the fight is much better with less line. justin
  4. Looks like we have an event! Interest seems to be growing and Im inclined to cap the event to 15-20 boats. We have about 15 boats interested as of right now! Id like to get an idea of how many guys are committed 100% weather permitting, and whether they have campsite or are they commuting. There is still tons of time, but as soon as we get 20 boats committed we will close to new entries. Id love to include more boats but Otisco isn't big, I want things to go smoothly, and Id like everybody to get a chance to meet each other and talk fishing. There is so much we can all learn from each other! justin
  5. Ive been using a small barrel swivel for trolling because I never felt like I could re-tie a leader on the fly easily with a double uni, but Im gonna try this year as Im getting comfortable with it. I use a double abright for casting setups, and that knot is really easy even when Im alone. justin
  6. The fishermans cabins do sleep 6, but that assumes 2 on the futon, 2 in a double bed, and 2 bunk beds. Just wanted to make sure you guys know the layout. I was up there today and they are remodeling the bathrooms. justin
  7. Just wondered what everybody uses walleye trolling and why. Ive been using 30lb powerpro, but im going to 20 seaguar braid to get deeper faster. I haven't used mono or flouro mainline because I cant get deep enough without adding clip weights when trolling deep divers. Plus I feel the shorter setbacks make running lines easier and fighting fish more enjoyable in addition to less slack. I have a lot more feel with braid also. justin
  8. Nice work old man! Its not about saving money...its about doing it yourself! I cant wait to read how it works! I have to admit its a tempting hobby, but I cant keep up with everything now! Tim, They stretch eel skins over plugs for stipers...of course 1 big walleye, pike, musky, or tiger and I bet the fish skin is shredded! justin
  9. Thanks guys! Les, I took her to Doug's Fish Fry in Skaneatles today after we bought our new to us rv 5th wheel! Last nights eyes will be for Cody and I! Chris, If it opens up at Murphy's and you are under the weather Id gladly help you with your boat so you can get out there! Of course your secrets will be safe with me! lol Get yourself recovered! Like2fish, Nice running into you last night! How'd you make out? justin
  10. My son Cody, my buddy Scotty, and myself hit the southern tier rivers this week 3 nights after work. The first 2 nights we only got 2 keepers, but last night we did a little better! Fish were caught on various sticks. Ended up with a 27" , 2 at17.5", a 16, and an almost 15 that went back. Cody caught the big one....his biggest from the rivers. 12. Otisco fishes well May thru October...walleye, tiger muskies, largemouths, smallmouths, and browns are all very catchable all season, but july and august trolling really produces consistently. We routinely catch all 5 species in a 4 hour trip during the summer. justin
  13. Otisco lake Campground and Marina 1544 otisco valley road Marietta 13110 315 636 9925 Take the preble exit Its 10 miles off 81 Its 60 miles from Binghamton The launch is on the south end and is plenty deep. Id take the 21' Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. I rigged up several combos for different uses last year with suffix, and i felt it worked well for spoons and harnesses but on cranbaits i did much better with deep divers and or clip weights. In my opinion the shorter setbacks with clip weights, the versatility of clip weights, and the convenience makes leadcore obsolete in trolling sticks to depths of 50-60 feet. I do like a leadcore chute rod with a full 10 colors. Keep in mind i troll faster than most, up to 3.5 or so, leadcore isnt a huge part of my trolling. I will say using, or at least trying everything at your disposal is the key to finding out what works for YOU, and leadcore is a cheap way to experiment. 15. Sounds great Ed! You hit the nail right on the head! The reasons i wanted to do this were to meet some new friends with a common passion, share some knowledge, and of course being 100 per cent self taught id love to learn a few things too! A new recipe or two was something i hadnt thought of, but after all if i didnt eat the fish i certainly wouldnt work so hard at it! My son prefers steelhead and salmon to walleye...i like both but walleye is my favorite freshwater fish. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Well we are up to 7-10 boats! The more the merrier, but Id say we have a enough for a great day already. If any members are shore guys dont be afraid to chime in...I know I can make room for someone, and there might be a few other guys that need a partner or have room for a 3rd or 4th. Its all about getting together, and making new fishing friends. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. That muskrat catch must have a story...and id love to hear it! Must have been quite a surprise! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Just wanted to say thanks to all of the fingerlakes guys for sharing your trips and knowledge. I feel we are a family oriented bunch of fishermen, and wanted to invite anyone interested to the LOU walleye event at Otisco July 19. Even if you are a trout guy we would love to meet you...plenty of browns here too! Maybe Ed and Kinger can show us how to get the football browns! 22. Tim, Ill bet we can get walleye at the Otisco Grocery! Lol! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. There is only 6 cabins, 6 tent sites, and 2 nonseasonal rv sites....Pap has 1 cabin...im seasonal now so i wont be taking up any sites, but anyone interested should reserve early...i slept in our envoy in the parking lot or under the stars on my boat 3 weekends last year! Campsites and cabins are setup for at least 6 people, so its possible 2 groups could split a site, and i could prob put up a group if necessary. Obviously not everyone will be camping, but if you are thinking of it reserve a site! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Walleye anglers are notorious for being absolutely silent when it comes to finding big eyes. Ontario has the giants for sure, but there are easier places to find and target big eyes. Conesus and Otisco both have big walleye and both are small lakes and finding the walleye is much easier....of course catching them is another matter. Otisco isn't that far from mexico...try it sometime when you get blown off Ontario...there is plenty of info in the walleye section about fishing otisco...We are having a LOU walleye get together/ tourney at Otisco july 19th. This would be a great place to meet other guys and learn. justin
