1. John's first yote! He has been working hard and its great to get him in on one. We had a pure black stray coyote today, but we never did find him again....maybe tomorrow Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
 2. Had a full crew running dogs today starting at our hunting camp. 2 down so far! Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
 3. I haven't seen anything a bored beagle wouldn't chase! Spent a week about 20 years ago with some fine beagles in the moose river plains, and after a couple days of tough hunting the rabbits were scarce...we treed a bear, ran a bobcat, and got several woodcock...all with beagles. They hunted what was available! justin
 4. Way to go Kevin! Just yote hunting here but Im thinking about trying the river soon for eyes. justin
 5. My most memorable fishing and hunting experiences all include my family and children. Its way better than wii! Tim, at 10 she'll be ready for eyes with dad this year! 6 fish nights for fall with her! She probably outfish your dad! Lol. I still can see the look on his face watching tracy haul walleye after walleye!
Justin

Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

6. Spot on! My goal at the beginning of the season was to get my outings more efficient. Nothing worse than taking someone out and having them get bored. I still cant average 1 walleye per hour im away from the dock. If we don't drop/miss walleye Im over 1 per hour...thankfully Otisco has big smallies and tigers to fill in trips, and even the browns, though small are fun. Time really flies out there when you put a little pressure on yourself, and floating weeds really make it tough for us. We start in the dark in the morn and if I wind isn't consistent overnight It can be challenging to find weed-free areas with fish. Posting trips is also a great tool, as you can really see your progress as an angler when you go back and re-read your posts. justin
 7. In 2014 ill collect better data...i wasnt able to provide much data on anything but walleye as i didnt measure other species all the time, and didnt keep track of time on the water except when targetting eyes. I fish enough that i should have more data for them. We caught lots of tigers, browns, bass during the middle of the day and i have very little data for that fishing. I limited my walleye fishing to mornings and evenings, but we fished all day. Also i didnt keep track of number of rods in the water for each trip. Lots to improve on!
Justin

Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

8. The yellow booklets are for cold water species and the blue ones warm, but either can be used according to the directions. Just contact the regional office for the region you fish the most and they will be happy to send you a 2014 packet. This info is the only way the DEC can justify/adjust stockings or allocate funds to improve a fishery. If nobody participates then they don't think we are fishing and stockings are cut...this is the reason there is holes in the stocking years at Otisco. That wont happen again on my watch! justin
 9. Tell me about it! I filled 3 books! I sit around every evening all summer...that's the time to get it done for sure, post my trip then fill out the diary! Online would be even better tho. justin
 10. Here is a couple pics of yotes we got in front of hounds. My son is on the left...he shot that yote.

Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

11. I kept notes, had my posts and used the journal they provided. Problem was I had to combine it all today....Im gonna email Ian Blackburn and see if something can be done to keep track online. Be nice if I could enter each trip from my smart phone. Participation always goes up with convenience. justin
 12. I do my best to clean my boat and trailer everytime I pull it out, and I do use the car wash. I have fished multiple waters on the same day many times, and last year fished tupper lake, Oneida, and otisco the same day. How is anyone gonna wash/clean between the boat and bunks. My pontoon trailer has 2 20' bunks for each pontoon and I certainly don't jack the boat up to clean the 80' of carpet. Hope everyone conveys their concerns on the above link. justin
 13. Well I just put the finishing touches on my angler diary for 2013, and it's in the mailbox. I found out just how important good records are, as I missed a few trips out. I went thru and read all of my posts from the year and Tracy and I had quite few laughs. I wanted to thank all of you that post and comment. It was a fun getting to know you guys on the internet and even better meeting a few of you. I encourage everyone out there to do their part and participate in the Angler Diaries Program. We as sportsman have a responsibility to report our catches so that stocking efforts are continued and dollars are allocated. When anglers share it helps us all! justin
 14. Conservation is important, but eating fish and game that you harvest is what its all about for me! You cant beat FRESH fish. Sounds like you're hooked! justin
 15. In my experience you will educate coyotes very quickly, so we limit our calling to times when the odds are in our favor, cold, dark nights with a light but steady wind. I change calls each time I return to a spot and don't over call. Foxes on the other hand, especially grays aren't nearly as difficult. We target coyotes with dogs primarily, but calling is a fun way to stay active outdoors all winter. Keep at it you'll get some! justin
 16. If there is any possibility you might use the trolling motor on a bigger boat id buy one that can have a quick detach plate, and id want a 24 volt system. Not sure about your budget or how much fishing you plan to do, but if I was gonna troll with electric id get one with a remote. I troll with a terrova and cant imagine not having the remote, but thrust wise for a 12ft boat I agree with Les. justin
 17. Couldnt agree more! There isnt a secret to success...other than hard work, perseverance that borders on insanity, and lots of fuel. You have to really love it, because you spend a lot of days alone trying to figure it out. Its tough to get anyone to go 12 hours a day when you cant get into them. Of course once you are on them everybody wants in...lol! Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
 18. Otisco is as good as anywhere for big fish on small water!
Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

19. I can guarantee i can put you on fish all summer on otisco, and ill be doing conesus this year also! Check out my posts. As for learning yourself...its easy...fish everyday all season 12 hours a day, and you should have it within a year or two! Lol. Spend the 300 itll be cheaper... 20. I watched an episode of "hunt for big fish" last weekend, and the live bait rig he was using was amazing to see in action. He had a single hook a couple inches in front of live suckers that he wired thru the nose. He was catching muskies without a hook in them, and the ones that were hooked released easier than anything ive ever seen. The guide put him on fish, but he taught the guide his technique and it was impressive. Sure looked like a much better conservation minded rig than a quick strike rig with trebles. Anybody ever try this?
Justin

Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

22. Enjoy your time Captain Larry, youve earned it! Thanks for all the info you share, and more importantly your conservation efforts.
Justin

Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

23. I should have taken pics! It was awesome. The prime rib smoked for 6 hrs, and venison a bit over 2hrs...the only thing that we had no leftovers from was WALLEYE! Family was all thrilled to be taking packages of filets home. To all those that say big bucks dont taste good, and big walleyes are no good....YOU ARE WRONG! Put the effort into preparing it that you put into harvesting it and you'll be surprised how good mature walleyes and whitetails eat. Here is some leftover pics.
Justin

Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

24. I have to say im good on eyes in in the freezer! Sk8man if you get down my way I can give you some! In fact walleye is on the menu for our Christmas Eve dinner. I have a venison loin stuffed with spinach, gorgonzola, mushrooms, bacon, dried cherries, and walnuts. Walleye filets stuffed with shrimp we cast netted in sc, with a cream sauce. Bbq bacon wrapped shrimp and walleye appetizers. Main course 15 pounds of angus prime rib! Merry christmas everyone! Be safe

Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

25. I almost drove up myself yesterday...went to the susquehanna instead and caught 1 big sucker in the flood stage chocolate milk! Somebody should go get 1 last eye while we have this thaw!
Justin

Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
