  1. I have the 798 and love it...the inlines will work perfect...id make two deeper passes before you move in that way if the bigger fish are just inside where you have been fishing you wont spook them. The advantage to big boards or multiple inlines is you can cover many depths at once with your boat well off the structure, but if you have inexperienced guests 1 well run line is always better than 3 tangled...lol! 2. What size sticks are you guys using? IMO bigger the better....trolling up there i use 9's and 11's, but in fall id think the 13's and even 18's would get you the big girls as im sure there has to be some bigger fish. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. The west side of Otisco, my bread and buttet, has several points. I troll them by keeping the boat off the point and use boards to run over them with outside baits being shallowest. Then i move in tighter and turn out just as i get to the point, side imaging makes this easy if you have it. The outside board will accelerate and swing right over the side of the point. Then i come back in on the next point down. The fish will usually be on 1 side of the point or the other depending on wind and current. I DONT drive up on the point to locate the fish as im certain the boat will spook wary fish. I just fish both sides with boards and let the fish tell me where they are. If the fish are big they can be seen on side imaging from a 100 feet away. Big predators are aggressive but VERY wary....you have to remember these fish arent 4 year old salmon they are at least 10 and have seen it all! Simply pulling up on a point will turn them off....imo...think of it like hunting a mature buck not fishing. Be creative...its the little details that make the difference when you target MATURE predators. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. On otisco almost every tiger over 36" that i have caught was in at least 25 fow and down at least 15 feet. The few big fish that were shallower were caught at night. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. I asked Ian from the DEC if there was any chance they would raise the size limit to 40 inches to match the susquehanna. He said the 40 inches was to protect the pure muskies, and that it would stay 36. Is the DEC actually considering this? I sure hope so!! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Chris, You can legally save/store leftover certified bait for your next trip for up to 10 days from the date on the receipt. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. All this striper talk has me ready to load the truck and head to the canal...fall is great too...tho ive never done it and dont need another fall activity...lol! Sounds like i should hit the hudson for a day on my way to the cape...it would be a much better place to get tracy on a cow...she cant cast well enough to be effective at the canal and struggles in the dark jigging. Trolling is the play for family trips and beginners...do you ever try trolling surface plugs at daybreak? I just love the top water hits! 8 pound walleyes are fun on topwater too, but nothing beats a striper! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. I love to troll, but just dont have time to add the hudson with my walleye fishing and the canal trip/trips This year the first weekend in june i was at the canal for a good blitz on my last day and 4 of us caught a dozen over 3 feet in 2 hours....the trip i cancelled 2 weeks prior there was an epic morning blitz that lasted till after noon and a friend caught 54 in 2 days by himself with several 40 lbers....of his 54 almost 40 were topwater in daylight...the rest were jigging all night in 6+ knot current...topwater is slack tide and much easier to land fish...check it out on youtube...i know how to time it and would love to get a bunch of guys together for next year...the only equipment needed is a fishing bike, a GOOD surfcasting rod or 2, waders, and about 100 bucks in tackle! Its a 2 fish a day limit and the license is cheap. Fishing from a bike takes me back to my childhood and its awesome...i rigged a bike i had for about 25 bucks. Timeframe is end of may into june...if you make 2 trips 2 weeks apart its almost a guarantee if you know the tides to fish. Its labor intensive hardcore fishing and not for beginners unless you have money to burn on tackle. Casting distance is extremely important! It took me a year plus of researching and several trips to figure it out as surfcasters are far more secretive than walleye guys if you can believe it! 9. Flatlines and shallower divers...unless you are near the dam or the channel there isnt any depth. The place is full of snags and structure...the channel takes skill to troll as its skinny and wanders with tight turns...there are some flats that are 10-12 fow....thats what i fish most...the res is a nightmare as there are many UNMARKED places you can run aground. Casting right to shore on the dam end is popular, easy, and safe at night. The spillway has bigger fish and you can stand on shore...you still get tons of snags. Give me 60 fow and suspended fish....too stressful fishing the reservoir!! When i fished it more i used a canoe from keibel road and caught plenty. 10. Nice stripers! Ive gotten a 40"...ive wanted to do the hudson but just cant commit the time, and once you see the topwater action at dawn on the canal you will be hooked! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Ed, I use my 25 hp basically at an idle, and fine tune speed with my trolling motor. I can do bursts annd pauses with a remote around my neck. It works well...very well! There are lots of extras on the dt10's, but the cycle feature seems like a difference maker with what i do...if there was a way to test drive em that would be best. In the past ive bought products and outgrew them and bought the top of the line later...id rather buy the best first and know that i have the equipment that'll give me the option to do whatever ideas i get. Its only money...lol! Id just like to know others have tried the product and like it. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. I troll and cast smaller sticks...i jig white twisters and gulp too but it doesnt produce as many keepers for me...i only fish it a few times a year. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Monomoy rips is supposed to be awesome....ive only done surfcasting, and naussett isnt to great from shore...damn seals Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Saltwater....nj, cape cod, and my favorite shore spot of all time THE CAPE COD CANAL!! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Ed i rely on the si alot for walleye...i have my transducer mounted on the trolling motor and i can accurately follow where the flat lake floor meets the slope easily and if i turn the trolling motor to the inside a bit i can see any points that stick out before i get there. It keeps me from dragging outside lines. I gotta get better at reading fish under the boards...i can see the big tigers with it easily, but walleyes dont make much shadow. I love my humminbird but takes a lot of time staring at it to know what you are seeing, and im no expert. I think getting together with other guys really helps the learning curve, and this site also of course. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. We better be able too Ed...thats the unit i have! According to what ive read itll work. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. My son and i both have 25 wssm's for long range on yotes and deer topped with busnell 6500's 4.5 - 30 x 50 with tactical turrets. Exact same ballistics as your 25.06 in a short action. Effective to 500-600 yds...we shoot big 24"balloons out to 1000yds. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. I drive by all the time too, but there's plenty of eyes and limits of keepers are easier there than Otisco for sure. The keepers are still a third the size of the eyes from the Otisco grocery! Lol Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Yep Stan Otis...that's his son in the pic....he ties some good bucktails and they are reasonable. He did a couple big 3-5 oz bucktails for me for stripers. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. My son saw a shooter tonight just outta range and the buck proceeded to chase every doe in the field. Nice of him to clear the field so Cody could get down. Also got 1 new shooter on camera. Ill post some trail cam pics when I get back from camp. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Chris, I get my bait at a little bait shop on the southside of binghamton by pierce creek. He has everything from leeches to big suckers...my favorite! I drive by it to go home ill get the address. Here's a nice one my buddy got. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Im using suspending diving lures so im not thinking falling at all...i want speed variation....thanks for all the info Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Thats just the info i was looking for! thanks guys justin
  24. I am looking into the dt 10 units myself, but havent been able to get any info from anyone that uses them. For my application i am most interested in the cycling/jigging function. Does anyone use this function? I run diving sticks off my cannons and it seems the jigging of the ball will accelerate the bait on the up stroke and pause the bait on the down stroke. This type of action is what im looking for to trigger tiger muskies and walleye. I do this with boat speed now, but its only possible when im not busy running lines etc. Ive had great success with this using my terrova but seems like jigging would be easier. I also wondered what you guys like the most about the digi-trolls? How easy are they to run off my humminbird? Ive researched the features, but cant find anyone talking about them which makes me wonder if they are worth it. Id like to go from 2 riggers to 3-4 dt10s, and have 8.5 foot beam on my pontoon can I fish 4 or is 3 the number? Does anyone use the cannon probe with their humminbird? justin
  25. My favorite spots need more flow, but its on its way! There are plenty of active walleye, but the bigger fish like more water imo. justin
