Definitely red eye spoons , mid eighties very hot spoon on lake O ! I probably have hundreds of them from my charter days all sizes worked pretty well at times .
Slow troll was the key if I remember correctly. !
Bear in mind LC gets about 4' of depth per color under 2 MPH , like mentioned 3/4 colors good for spring. If u need little more depth I would just install a rubber core sinker of weight required .
Lighter leaders require less length .
One method of attaching lead core to leader is using a tiny barell swivel of hi quality , also mail knots r suitable . U modify UR nail knot by after a series of wraps lift up core wrap under then contuine to finish . Another good knot with micro lead is the slim beauty or huffnagel !
Back in late seventies thru eighties & into mid nineties when I chartered on Lk O , I pulled a double board manufactured by Laurvick release company . Pulled from 25' to 30' boats and boards ran very well at mid ship !
We never used copper in those days but I always fished LC in spring on inside Positions I believe . Anytime acted up was my fault but rarley had dive issues !
Pulling all the copper today & full leads definitely changes board attitude . We never had to deal with fleas etc , we fished lures
hardly any bait rigs so I cannot comment on today's issiues . However before I would fish 600' of copper I would Drail
the copper
to cut down on extreme lengths , don't know if this would resolve that issue but I would give it a shot .
Braid should be fine , but like most said it's very close to wire in the stretch factor.
I would & do use colored coded braid every ten yards sans core it changes color . U can monitor line out easily .
