    Thanks guys! You verified what I thought but wasn't sure about due to lack of experience. This will be a transom mount motor hung on a home made bracket. True bow mount is probably not in the budget. I am looking at making a handle extension for steering.

    I'm setting up a small 12' boat for trolling on Hemlock/Canadice. It will have an outboard on the stern and I want an electric trolling motor on the bow. Having given this some thought and looking at trolling motors I am wondering what size to buy. I am thinking of erring on the high side with the idea that the little motor might need to buck a head wind in use. The smallest motor I'll settle for is a 40# thrust but am also looking at a 50#. Most of the time this will be used to troll at slow speed and I am wondering if I will see a big difference in battery life between the 50# and the 40#? Thoughts/insight?

    I just finished replacing trebles (per the Sk8ers advice) with 1/0 Mustad siwash hooks on my Bladerunner 44s and Sutton 31s. I am looking at my Sutton 61s and the 1/0 hook looks way too big. Does anyone make a smaller siwash hook in 1 and/or 2 sizes?

    Flybuster, Is the Testors you use solvent based model paint and what do you thin it with? What do you use for clear coat. Jan's is a good source but shipping charges can be a bit excessive. I have made two purchases from Jan's. Jan's has wood plug bodies but why not give a try at making them. Once I get some other projects out of the way I am hoping to make some plugs from scratch. After reading some books on it at the library it really doesn't seem that tough though a bit time consuming. I have used two airbrushes for many years for making scale models. Both are Pasche with one being external mix and the other the internal mix. Both are pretty good, easy to clean and fairly rugged. I prefer the external mix airbrush for most simple work because it is easier to clean. The internal mix brush is for the fine/complex work. Cleaning a neglected brush is not fun so clean your brush often! I agree with Fish-on that practice is the key to getting use to a specific brush.

    Taking disabled vets fishing is a great idea! Is a lift really necessary? Who would take responsibility for the liability issues regarding the lift? Rather than contacting engineers first would it be better to contact someone in the VA with rehab experience first?

    Jason, I use to love the cold and snow! Used to go snow shoeing/skiing/camping/mountaineering in the winter in NY, NH, Idaho mountains. Fast forward to the past few years and my mind says get out there but once out there my body says COLD. I walk my Springer every day and some winter mornings it can be a bit tough! I think to fish effectively you need to be comfortable. Jack

    Guys, Glad I asked this. Carharts were what first came to mind. I hadn't heard of Artic Armor. A lot to ponder. I'd like the Artic Armor but have to see if it is in my budget. Since having almost died a year ago from hypothermia in my breezeway (long off topic story) all I care about life jackets is that I don't get ticketed. Chances aren't very good if one goes into the drink and on the Finger Lakes in December since I don't think help is going to arrive in time. The life jacket is mainly a quick way to retrieve the body! Artic Armor appeals to me because of the flotation but I assume that it isn't considered a life jacket. I also wonder how wet you get? Does it act as a survival suit? I am wondering what to wear as a "base layer"? Jack

    not what you were thinking Fall Fashion For Fishing Fingerlakes OK, I see some of you fanatics fishing in some pretty cold foul weather. I'll probably attempt fishing in early spring and next fall and am thinking about what would be comfortable ruling out an enclosed boat. I want to keep warm w/o roasting/sweating, shed the rain and have a enough freedom of movement to actually fish. I need to get some hip boots for launching in Hemlock/Canadice but am wondering what else to wear. I am thinking about a better inflatable life preserver that would be a bit less bulky? Any insight on what works for you? Jack

    Sounds like the sawbellies would take any small wet fly. Just use 5 flies on the leader! Fly fishing for alewives could become a new sport! 7X leader on a 3wt line/rod! Time to make a fly fishing for sawbellies video to sell. Also time to develop fly patterns specifically for sawbellies. But wait there's more! Just look what a simple query can develop into Has anyone preserved alewives in oil or salt and then fished with them?
