  1. Only grabbed photos of two of the bows.. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Thanks Reel Doc. We got two with that method today. My last and final report for 8/14. Fished out of Sampson again, tried both sides in 100-150 fow. Kept everything high except for the previously mentioned flasher fly which took a two lakers, one 18” and one a hair over 20”. Temp was anywhere from 40-60ish down. Kept speed 2.3 and above. Pretty slow day for us until the end when we landed 3 bows in a row. One 14”, one 15” and one 17”. Two smaller ones came on the trusty diver / sutton combo which has been producing all week. The last and biggest came on a rainbow trout speedy shinner which was stacked @47’ down and only 30’ back. Only other fish was a itty bitty salmon my wife pulled in on the same speedy shinner. All fish released to fight again. Thanks for the fun Seneca and Cayuga lakes! If all goes well maybe I’ll be back again next year (or sooner). Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. Last day on the water. I’ll be on channel 63 if you’re out. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. Now and then yes. Been changing it out but yesterday I had a 124mm deeper diver on a 3 setting out w a green flasher and fly half the time and it took both the lakers. My hot diver has been a silver 107 deeper out 175’ on a 3 setting with a Sutton 44. Gonna lay low today, if weather is ok maybe get out tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. 8/12 - Back from Cayuga. Fished out of Deans cove, went south almost to sheldrake then north as well. Marked lots of bait, fished anywhere from 120-300+ fow. Ended the day with two lakers around 20”, one 19” salmon, one short salmon and one short rainbow. Hot spoon was a Sutton 44” on a diver. Riggers never fired once. 6. My last update for 8/11. One more small laker boated before coming in on a 200’ wire diver trailing a Sutton 44. Back at camp and cleaned the bow for dinner. Never seen a stomach so full of 5-6” sawbellies. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Out again this morning on Seneca in 90-150fow. One 19.5” bow took a large honeybee down 70 over 120. Was surprised to get him on such a large spoon. We had a 2.6 downspeed at the time as well. Another handful of lakers released ranging 19-23”. Might try again tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Hopefully Monday or Wednesday. All weather dependent. Probably launch @ deans cove. Gonna head back out on Seneca tomorrow I think. Try some different areas and some different spoon sizes to see if I can connect a few more times. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. First time out and I am reporting as promised. Just got back from fishing out of Sampson Marina. Headed to the Nwest side of the lake to try to play the winds which have kept me on the trailer since arrival. Ran a spoon program hoping for silver at 2-2.4mph. No silver but Landed 4 lakers. One with a lamprey which was promptly made into two and “released”. All fish looked really healthy, released well and swam away strong. Headed in at 11 when things got rough and I got hungry. Was pleased for 2.5 hours out. Spoons which took fish were a Sutton 44, Medium Honeybee in green (finish 569), firetiger Jake spoon and green alewife scorpion. 52 degrees was anywhere from 35-45 foot down depending on where I was which surprised me. Hopefully I’ll be out again soon! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Thanks guys! I appreciate the advice. Hopefully I’ll get out of the office in a while so I can finish packing my gear. Then I guess I should start packing clothes too HA! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. Hi folks! Well it’s been another year since I last posted and likewise I last visited the area. My trip went well last year. I only fished Seneca and despite coming a week or two after the flood we still managed some good catches between storms. I have been following everyone’s reports so thank you everyone. That’s said, I had a few questions I was hoping someone might be so kind as to answer. Setback from ball and ball type? Any thoughts? I will be bringing sharks both black and silver as well as standard ball. On Champlain recently(most of my trips) the setback have been as close as 8-10 for silver and I havnt gone much past 25’. For lakers it doesn’t seem to matter. Spoon size? Again, on champ I have had most success on small stingers then up to Sutton 44 and medium Honeybees. Not much larger unless going for lakers on bottom. How big do most folks start off? How big are the alewives running? I think that’s it, I’d love some info on the above as I daydream here at work! Looking forward to finding some fish and exploring both lakes over the next week (starting Friday!) I’ve got everything from grease traps to 30lb blood run sea flea to electronics so I am hoping for favorable weather/winds. Will do my best to post a live or daily report over the next week so I can contribute as well. Here’s a few pics from Champlain as thanks for reading! Tight lines!! 12. Thanks man. It was pretty busy in there so I wasn’t looking to throw anyone off their game asking for fishing tips LOL [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Haha Nice! I’ll drop a line shortly, hopefully I don’t interrupt dinner. [emoji51] With the weather and my Thursday checkout I may try and fish Cayuga instead on the way home. Also, Boundary Breaks was the last stop for the wife and I. Grabbed a few bottles and we are enjoying them here on the deck. Stopped at Brewer’s in Ovid per Sk8s advice. Pam was epically nice to talk to and it was a cool little shop. They don’t make them like that these days. Picked up two Great Lakes spoons and a few MI stinger colors I didn’t have. Only one okie dokie on the rack and I wasn’t confident in the color so I left it. In retrospect I should have bought it, such a unique spoon. Thanks to everyone for chipping in with advice. Hopefully the lake lays down tomorrow and I can get out. 🤞🏻 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Thanks again Sk8! First stop headed north, Ryan William Vineyard! LoL Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Thanks kayslay! I may make boundary my last stop before hitting brewers sporting goods.. [emoji16] Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. Thanks!! I’ll try to hit it today! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. So this is my first time on the lake and have spent the last two days fishing out of Sampson. Figured I’d give a quick update since the south wind is ripping up the lake today. Fished both sides of the lake both north and south of camp. Fishing between 80-160FOW using riggers set between 40-70’ and wire divers out 200’. My results have been OK, best bite seems to be the morning. Havnt turned a rod between 1-5pm. Only one small bow on the riggers on a hammered Sutton 61. All the other fish have been on the divers with green/black spoons. Best down speed seemed to be 2-2.5. Lots of smaller (and some larger) debris in the water, fleas seem to be denser on the NE side than the W. Also reeled in some serious vegetation when I wasn’t paying enough attention. Question 1: why can’t I buy a rigger bite? Tried both short and long leaders off balls as well as spoons. Question 2: any color or speeds to key in on for RT and LL? Feel free to PM Question 3: any tackle shops to visit in the area in between wineries? [emoji51] Photos of the two Lakers we got yesterday. Wife’s PB laker and a brute that fought hard and had to be responsibly released to the cooler. Grilled in foil in a basil vinaigrette. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Based in Sampson’s Facebook page it appears they’re open. That said I think I’m delaying my trip by a day or two to try and let things settle out, sounds like I’ll need to be pretty cautious next week when I’m out. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  19. Oh man! I’m supposed to be camping at Sampson starting this weekend. [emoji22] hopefully it comes down/settles out and everyone’s ok out there. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  20. Thanks Guys. Any Pointers on spoons size and color? I’m bring everything but the kitchen sink. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. Bringing this one back up! So I’ll be headed out to Sampson end of next week to spend a few days on the lake. Very excited, been reading as man Seneca reports as I can find [emoji51]. Really hoping for some decent weather. Any pointers on spoon size/color would be appreciated. I fish a lot of smaller Sutton’s and honeybees here on George/Chanp/Schroon. That said it seems green is a popular one for Seneca and I might even be able to fish some Dreamweaver super slims?? I also bought some gambler rigs and a grease trap to run deep so I hope I have my bases covered. Hopefully I’ll have a good trip summary at the end with some photos to share. Thanks for all the past(and future) input! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. Skan is my fathers favorite lake, he fishes it often. Every now and then he gets a good one. While it doesn’t compare to the one from a few years back he was able to land this one which just hit 30” back in May. Pretty fish out of there for sure! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Thanks guys! Really, really appreciate the input. Lakebound, I may have to hit you up if you don’t mind. I ended up renting one of the “plush” cabins at Sampson so I’ll try and let everyone know how it works out. Hopefully I can get into some fish while I am there and my next post will be some fish photos. Looking forward it!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. R11 - I’d for sure meet up but for one I know nothing about fishing Seneca and two, I won’t even be around until the following week. Thanks for the info Sk8man! I just booked a cottage at Sampson. This way the wife will be comfortable and I won’t have to put up a tent [emoji16]. A week cost less than the other 3 night rentals I was looking at. I figured having easy access to the launch and maybe even the possibility of getting a slip there made it a no brainer. It looks like a 20 minute drive from Sampson to Deans cove launch so I may have to try that a day as well! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  25. Thanks. That’s actually where I’ve been getting most of my info from. I ended up calling the pro and they were very helpful. I still have my concerns about the primitive cabins so may end up tenting it or tying to get one of the cottages. Hopefully I’ll be out there trolling in August- not sure how things are going round that time in that area but I’m looking forward to it. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
