  1. Yes. If all goes as planned it could be a nice stop over before heading back! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Nice! Still ripping decent on Seneca. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Thanks man! I’m hoping the forecast is correct or I’ll be home even earlier than expected. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. And the Photos Dont do it justice. Wish I could upload video. Nah, Didn’t even try, it was rippin about half what it is now. Saw one boat my size out there bobbing and taking a few waves. Decided I’d just enjoy my coffee nice and slow this am🤣. That said, if winds look ok tomorrow I might head to Cayuga before the treck home. 🤞🏻 Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Definitely. Senecas a rockin’ Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Day two went a bit better than day one here on Seneca. Fished till noon then played boat tour guide with some family. Landed two lakers and lost another after deciding to go deep with the riggers. “Hot” (if you can call 3 fish hot) spoon was a black fin tuna patterned SS. Temps seemed to be dropping a tad deeper than yesterday up here around Sampson. All in all you can’t beat this weather for a nice boat ride. Looks like the winds will be up tomorrow and possibly Monday. Will see how it goes! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Whelp, today’s tally was a big ol’ goose egg. Luckily it was a beaut of a day. Started the day north of Sampson, marked lots of bait up high. Temps were 35ish-45. Wife needed a bio break so we headed back in after two swings and misses. We then decided to cover some ground. Made our was south, way south. Fished a few spots all the way down past Glenora with only one more bump but nothing to show for it. Temp was a bit deeper down that way ~55’. Tried different speeds and techniques. Maybe I’m just a bit rusty but I prefer to tell myself today’s conditions were meant more for boating and not fishing [emoji23]. Both weeds and fleas were very manageable, even my stacked rods with 15lb main line had minimal issues most areas. I suppose I’ll give it another go tomorrow and report back then. Time for a frosty beverage. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app[/url]
  8. Annnd we’re out! Late start. One swing and miss so far. 57 deg 40’ down... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. That’s Bigfoot - I know there’s a fine line to elk with these in terms of action. Will have to see what happens with these ones next week! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Sooooo when Nick mentioned new cabins above it got me thinking. I looked into it, the Samsen marina has put in cabins!?!? That was quick! Based on one site It looks like they have a crap ton. Can anyone tell me if thats the case? Or are they putting them in in phases? It also looked like the cost of slips went up. Really hoping the new “owners” arnt gonna be overpacking that park like sardines. Maybe I’m just overreacting to change but that would drive me away forever. 11. So I have been tempted to “dress up” some Sutton’s for a while now (especially the newer ones with rougher finishes). I have done a little taping in the past but not a lot, even a touch of painting too but always worried about the affects on action. That said, anyone have more experience and want to share how they like to tweak things and maybe some pictures? (Don’t give away your golden ticket though [emoji38]) Here’s what I have modified so far. And no, I didn’t paint the back of the #61 black, it just turned that color [emoji20]. It pains me to do anything to them but I’m currently fighting the urge to bust out the powder paint.. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Gonna third the Sampson cottages. Next week will be our third year in a row. FYi be aware they have capped the length of stay to 5 days to allow them to clean the cottages more thoroughly. Things could change though. My Only “issue” is wish I could see my boat from the cottage. I am a bit paranoid when it comes to leaving it floating (I had a bad experience that scarred me). 13. Thanks Nick! I also hear there’s a lot of changes going on at the marina so it will be interesting to what’s changed in a year. Hopefully the weeds aren’t too bad, last few years I didn’t have to many issues. Gonna bring the 50lb big game for the rigger rods in case the fleas are bad. It’s always a crap shoot, hate putting it on unless I have to. If time and conditions allows I’ll Deff spend a day at Cayuga too. Dug out the wire Diver rods and the grease traps tonight! -Kyle Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Well it’s been almost a year and I’m coming back! This will be year #3 at Seneca/Sampson. I decided to start this thread early since my trip is a little over a week away and I’m excited to head back west. Similar to the last two years I’ll try and post every night after I get out! This years trip will be cut short due to covid restrictions at the Sampson Cottages but still hoping to get out for a few solid days of trolling. I hope everyone has been safe and healthy during all the madness! Fishing opportunities have been rough for me. I have avoided launches on the weekends and only been out a handful of times on Lake Champlain. Water temps and fleas have been horrid in the souther basin, and it sounds like Seneca and Cayuga aren’t fairing any better with the fleas?? Anyone have recent down temp info? I recall last year it being ~40-60’ down around this time. With the heat I’m sure things are different this year! Anywhooo, hello again to all! Hopefully I will have some good reports and stores to share in about a week! A lil’ smoked salmon action from Lake Champlain is attached as a teaser Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Only grabbed photos of two of the bows.. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Thanks Reel Doc. We got two with that method today. My last and final report for 8/14. Fished out of Sampson again, tried both sides in 100-150 fow. Kept everything high except for the previously mentioned flasher fly which took a two lakers, one 18” and one a hair over 20”. Temp was anywhere from 40-60ish down. Kept speed 2.3 and above. Pretty slow day for us until the end when we landed 3 bows in a row. One 14”, one 15” and one 17”. Two smaller ones came on the trusty diver / sutton combo which has been producing all week. The last and biggest came on a rainbow trout speedy shinner which was stacked @47’ down and only 30’ back. Only other fish was a itty bitty salmon my wife pulled in on the same speedy shinner. All fish released to fight again. Thanks for the fun Seneca and Cayuga lakes! If all goes well maybe I’ll be back again next year (or sooner). Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  17. Last day on the water. I’ll be on channel 63 if you’re out. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. Now and then yes. Been changing it out but yesterday I had a 124mm deeper diver on a 3 setting out w a green flasher and fly half the time and it took both the lakers. My hot diver has been a silver 107 deeper out 175’ on a 3 setting with a Sutton 44. Gonna lay low today, if weather is ok maybe get out tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  19. 8/12 - Back from Cayuga. Fished out of Deans cove, went south almost to sheldrake then north as well. Marked lots of bait, fished anywhere from 120-300+ fow. Ended the day with two lakers around 20”, one 19” salmon, one short salmon and one short rainbow. Hot spoon was a Sutton 44” on a diver. Riggers never fired once. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  20. My last update for 8/11. One more small laker boated before coming in on a 200’ wire diver trailing a Sutton 44. Back at camp and cleaned the bow for dinner. Never seen a stomach so full of 5-6” sawbellies. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Out again this morning on Seneca in 90-150fow. One 19.5” bow took a large honeybee down 70 over 120. Was surprised to get him on such a large spoon. We had a 2.6 downspeed at the time as well. Another handful of lakers released ranging 19-23”. Might try again tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Hopefully Monday or Wednesday. All weather dependent. Probably launch @ deans cove. Gonna head back out on Seneca tomorrow I think. Try some different areas and some different spoon sizes to see if I can connect a few more times. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  23. First time out and I am reporting as promised. Just got back from fishing out of Sampson Marina. Headed to the Nwest side of the lake to try to play the winds which have kept me on the trailer since arrival. Ran a spoon program hoping for silver at 2-2.4mph. No silver but Landed 4 lakers. One with a lamprey which was promptly made into two and “released”. All fish looked really healthy, released well and swam away strong. Headed in at 11 when things got rough and I got hungry. Was pleased for 2.5 hours out. Spoons which took fish were a Sutton 44, Medium Honeybee in green (finish 569), firetiger Jake spoon and green alewife scorpion. 52 degrees was anywhere from 35-45 foot down depending on where I was which surprised me. Hopefully I’ll be out again soon! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Thanks guys! I appreciate the advice. Hopefully I’ll get out of the office in a while so I can finish packing my gear. Then I guess I should start packing clothes too HA! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  25. Hi folks! Well it’s been another year since I last posted and likewise I last visited the area. My trip went well last year. I only fished Seneca and despite coming a week or two after the flood we still managed some good catches between storms. I have been following everyone’s reports so thank you everyone. That’s said, I had a few questions I was hoping someone might be so kind as to answer. Setback from ball and ball type? Any thoughts? I will be bringing sharks both black and silver as well as standard ball. On Champlain recently(most of my trips) the setback have been as close as 8-10 for silver and I havnt gone much past 25’. For lakers it doesn’t seem to matter. Spoon size? Again, on champ I have had most success on small stingers then up to Sutton 44 and medium Honeybees. Not much larger unless going for lakers on bottom. How big do most folks start off? How big are the alewives running? I think that’s it, I’d love some info on the above as I daydream here at work! Looking forward to finding some fish and exploring both lakes over the next week (starting Friday!) I’ve got everything from grease traps to 30lb blood run sea flea to electronics so I am hoping for favorable weather/winds. Will do my best to post a live or daily report over the next week so I can contribute as well. Here’s a few pics from Champlain as thanks for reading! Tight lines!!
