  1. Got on the water a little later than I would have hoped and headed out a for a short ride to 100 fow where we started. Dropped the down temp and found the most fishable temps ~70' and below. Set the riggers down in that range and it wast long before we started marking bait and my buddy landed a lil chrome. It went dead about 8-830 and winds were light so we set up out in 250 and started the troll north. When we hit 350fow and approached the pack of boats the mag dipsey set back 170' with a Monkey puke took my boats first real king. My girlfriend took the rod for the fishes initial run and I finished up when her arms got tired. At the same time the rigger fired and my buddy boated another steelie on a green and black mag spoon. We contined north into 500'+ but That would be it for kings for us. We did miss a few good hits on the dipsey and manage one shaker which took a mt dew spin dr and green atomik later on. We did well with the steelies anywhere from 75-90ft down on the riggers. All in all it is a good day when the chief can get that far offshore and into a steady pick or steelies and a king or two Cheers LooseEye
  2. Ran 30lb blood run this weekend. Very few fleas, way better than my 20lb
  3. Thanks for the feedback, I had no idea. Maybe early and later season when the water temps r cooler it wouldn't be so deadly. Ill pocket that advice for the future as I don't intend to be keeping them pretty things every trip. How much does it cost for a decent copper setup? You need a special rod or tip right? Cheers Kyle
  4. My good friend, my father and I set out if the Oak at 630 Saturday. We gunned out slightly NW to 250fow and started our troll N. Running 2FF rigs and 2 silver streaks, one FF rig on the rigger and one on the dipsy 200' back, then the opposite on the other rigger/dipsey. Slider on the spoon rigger. With no down temp and going off of reports and some info from a guy at the dock we targeted 60-100fow. I had just rigged up an old eagle claw star fire combo with leadcore and my buddy pushed me to put it out even though I thought running all 5 lines would be disastrous if we started catching fish. Over about 320fow the leadcore(8colors, green and black silver streak) went and I landed a 7.5lb steelie, my first "real" lake o fish on the troll. Man was it fun seeing that fish jump!!! That would be the only fish until just before we left. we had trolled out to 450fow and were on the way back in when in 250fow when my buddy landed a nice 7lber on the same 8 color leadcore. All in all we had a great day and on the boat. It would have been nice to get a king, talking to some guys at the dock while pulling out we found out we may have been trolling a bit too deep and we stopped short of the 30 line where they reported multiple king hook ups. A down temp/speed would have been key but after dropping 400 on a new elect rigger I can't budget it, had I known I might have spent that$ on a sub troll instead of an elect rigger. Anyone know where I can get one reasonable so the little lady won't blow a gasket when I tell her what I spent? HAHA One last thing. We ended up keeping the steelies and I normally practice C&R. The first fish my buddy wanted for table fare and I obliged, the fight had seemed to take a roll anyway. The second fish we released after it kicked but it then promptly floated, two turn arounds and re-nettings later we decided we would keep the fish and I would have to clean one too when I got home. The long fight on the leadcore seems to be deadly to the fish, has anyone else has this issue? Maybe we just played them too light? I was thinking of just hammering down the drag next time, any advice? Thanks to everyone who reports because without this site I would have been twice as clueless yesterday. Cheers LooseEye
  5. I used to fish Otisco (and Skaneateles) regularly for everything that swims in there, lived in Marcellus. Love those eyes. Just took my boat out here to WNY for Ontario and all your posts are making me wish I was still out your way haha! I'm sure our boats crossed paths over the years! Great posts man! Kyle
  6. Sorry to hear about your bum luck. hopefully you can get all fixed up and be on the water soon, this afternoon and weekend is looking OK. good luck!
  7. Let us know how you like it. I have had manuals(walker lake masters) for about 4 years now and cranking anything more than 50 foot can be a real PIA, I often found myself unwilling to fish deep because I dreaded the crank. I just pulled the trigger on a single electric (another walker) myself to replace one of my 2 and can't wait to try it out, I plan to do the same thing as you and buy the second next year. ill hopefully be installing tonight and using it this weekend if the waves stay down! Anyone looking for a manual rigger? Lol
  8. Thanks for the info Jim, I appreciate it. I actually headed to the oak today hoping the 2-4' waves forecasted would turn into 1-2 but that wasn't the case. When i arrived at 630 there were 20'+ boats headed back to dock so i knew there wasn't a chance. Did some fishing in the creek and never even thought about heading out the channel. Hopefully I can get out next weekend and maybe even my new elect rigger will be in by then! See yah out there!
  9. You too onion. We'll probably follow each other up inadvertently someday ha!
  10. Thanks Shade, that's very nice of you. I would definitely be up for that sometime, especially when the waves are predicted to be a bit much for my smaller craft. Feel free to PM me any weekend your looking for another guy aboard. This weekend I think I am going to be out Sunday if the lake lays down a bit, if not ill stick close to home and take the girlfriend kayaking. If I get out ill try and see how your doing on the radio, feel free to do the same.
  11. Thanks for the kind words/ insight. Hopefully the winds are light Sunday and I can get out for a bit, two trips so far and nothing but a baby king. Think I need to head out a bit farther 2-300 FOW once I build a little confidence on the lake.
  12. Tried it on a Finger lake. Ran hookless plastic swim baits on the outer lures and then a small spoon off a short leader from the center. Think it did more harm than good, didnt catch a thing but only tried it once.
  13. Hi all, Names Kyle and I am new to fishing Lake O, a move to the Batavia area has forced me away from my home waters. Grew up fishing on Skaneateles and Otisco lakes. When my grandfather handed me down his console drive 16" Grumman fishing boat, "Chief Loose Eye", I instantly outfitted it for those lakes targeting browns and bows, and eventually put a new merc on it. I know The boats a little undersized for the big lake but I still want to get out for kings, chrome and browns on calm days. I have picked my old mans brain for lake O advice as he used to fish it on his boat but has since changed gears. The rest of the knowledge I hope to gain from experience and maybe with some help from you folks. Always open to meeting new fishing buddies and learning new techniques. I keep the VHF scanning while I am on the water and have been launching out of the Oak. Keep an eye out for "the chief" and feel free to say hello! Tight lines
